MNF Preview Chicago at Seattle

-- What happens when arguably the best offense in the NFL with arguably the best offensive play caller/head coach matches up with arguably the best defense in the entire NFL? I don’t know. What happens when a solid defense like Chicago adds Jeffery Simmons and faces an average offense with God knows who at RB? I don’t know. What I do know is--this is a game I am looking forward to watching as a fan of football. I hope I can set aside work and just drift into the game and enjoy. I have a lot of bets on Chicago’s win totals, division title, NFC title...so I’m rooting for the Bears.

-- For Fantasy purposes, it looks like it’s a pretty solid week this week across the FFM-land. Bucky, Pollard, Braelon, Chuba, Chase, King Henry all had good/solid weeks. That group is heavily owned by FFMers. Magic Mike saved a lot of weeks. Jacoby Brissett and Parker Washington didn’t help, but there was enough scoring otherwise from Kirk Cousins, Geno Smith, Brandon Aubrey and the JAX defense to get by. If Caleb Williams has a solid game along with Swift and Loveland...that’s a bonus for FFMers. Many benched them and went with other things already, but some are counting on them for the win tonight. JSN is the #1 opponent for FFMers tonight. As long as he isn’t epic, it should be OK.

-- There’s intrigue around Jadarian Price, and whether he’ll be active this game or held out because he’s going to Indy in a deal for JT. Mike Macdonald said some things in a presser that have people wondering.

-- If anyone is going to have a night on MNF outside of JSN, it has to be Caleb: either he soars (on high volume of short passes) or totally flames out. My prediction would be--a lot of screens and swings to the RBs and Burden and Raymond acting as RBs of sorts in a smallball pass game. And Zavion Thomas gets more involved in this carousel of smallball/get the guys good with the ball in their hands ‘the ball’. My pick/bet is Chicago +3, and that the Bears win. As tough as the Seattle total defense is...Chicago can be a confusing offense for opposing defenses. And the Bears with EXTRA time to prepare likely have Ben Johnson installing some ‘Crazy S***’ for tonight. The Bears played last TNF...and now playing MNF...11 days to prepare.

 -- Sports Cards Giveaway winners...

Contest winners, my plan is to start shipping out your cards this upcoming week as long as I don't get totally crushed with football action. When I ship them, I will e-mail you to let you know they're on the way so you can keep a lookout for them.

They are being packaged up Friday-Saturday, barring any schedule issues. I have all the shipping material. Likely then taken to a shipper Wednesday 11/4.

 -- Early Week 8 Sunday injury list...

Quarterbacks

  • Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders) — Jayden Daniels gave Washington an injury scare during Sunday night's win over the Eagles when he stayed down on the field and looked visibly in pain on the bench, though he told reporters afterward that he simply had the wind knocked out of him. Because there is no structural damage, he will not miss any time and is fully expected to start in Week 9.

  • Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) — Adding X medical context to his throwing-thumb surgery, Dr. David Chao noted immediately on video that Lamar Jackson had an "obvious right thumb deformity" consistent with a fracture or dislocation that makes it impossible to grip or spin a football. With Jesse Minter confirming surgery and an Injured Reserve stint, his absence will span at least four games and potentially the remainder of the season.

  • Tyler Huntley (Baltimore Ravens) — After stepping in for Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley suffered a right toe injury on a second-quarter sack-fumble against Buffalo that Dr. David Chao immediately identified on video as right turf toe, a diagnosis later echoed by Adam Schefter via team sources. Tyler Huntley is undergoing an MRI on Monday to determine the exact severity and how much time he could miss, putting his availability in serious jeopardy for Thursday Night Football against the Jaguars on a short week and potentially leaving undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano in line to start.

Running Backs

  • Jeremiyah Love (Arizona Cardinals) — Adding social media doctor context to his ankle aggravation, Dr. David Chao pointed out on X that the video showed the exact same high-ankle sprain mechanism that plagued him in the preseason and forced him to miss the prior two games, while Jeff Mueller noted that re-injuring the same ankle so early in the game is a major red flag. Having already missed two weeks before Sunday's first-quarter exit, Jeremiyah Love faces a likely multi-week absence while Tyler Allgeier takes over Arizona's lead backfield duties.

Wide Receivers

  • Michael Wilson (Arizona Cardinals) — Michael Wilson revealed to reporters in the locker room after Sunday's overtime win over Dallas that he suffered two broken ribs during the contest, likely occurring on a diving catch attempt while racking up eight receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown. Rib fractures are typically a pain-tolerance and lung-protection issue, leaving him highly questionable for Week 9 against Seattle pending further testing this week.

  • DJ Moore (Buffalo Bills) — Playing in his first game back from a sternoclavicular (SC) joint sprain, DJ Moore aggravated his left shoulder on two hard hits and then limped off late in the fourth quarter after being clipped from behind and hyperextending his left knee. Although DJ Moore told reporters afterward that his knee felt "good," he will undergo Monday imaging to rule out a bone bruise, meniscus issue, or PCL sprain, making him day-to-day for Week 9.

  • Kendrick Bourne (Arizona Cardinals) — Kendrick Bourne suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys after hauling in a 29-yard reception and was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game. The Cardinals have not yet released a recovery timetable as he undergoes imaging this week.

  • Reggie Virgil (Arizona Cardinals) — Rookie wideout Reggie Virgil had to be carted off the field during Sunday's win over Dallas after colliding hard with the goalpost on a pass target in the end zone, suffering an apparent upper-body or shoulder injury. Because he required the cart and could not return, he is expected to miss time pending Monday's diagnostic results.

Tight Ends

  • Hunter Henry (New England Patriots) — Hunter Henry sustained a left foot injury during the second quarter of Sunday's 24-19 comeback win over the Miami Dolphins, heading to the locker room after catching three passes for 30 yards and never returning. His status for Week 9 is in doubt while he undergoes testing Monday, leaving rookie Eli Raridon in line for expanded snaps if he misses time.

Offensive Linemen

  • Jayden Williams (Arizona Cardinals) — Starting left tackle Jayden Williams suffered a knee injury during Sunday's game against Dallas and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the afternoon, forcing Josh Fryar to step in at blindside protector. His recovery timeline is currently undetermined pending an MRI on Monday.

==Interesting Stats Center==

It's a historic workload decline for Ashton Jeanty.

No RB in NFL history has started a season with a longer streak of declining/even rush attempt totals after 10+ rush attempts in the season opener

His rush att by game:

23

21

19

15

10

10

8

2

-- For all you “stats people” knocking Mike Washington’s 3.3 YPC…

Goal-to-go: 6 carries for 0 yards

Outside goal-to-go: 19 carries for 83 yards (4.4 YPC)

The O-line can’t get a push at the goal line.

Watch the game. Not the box score. (RC NOTE: I did, he got bottled up most of the game besides goaline. It looked like Jeanty the prior weeks. It is not an RB issue...)

 .

-- Over the past 2 weeks, the Buccaneers have called 16 pass plays and 104 run plays.

 -- Week 8 RB Usage

- Kimani Vidal: 44% snaps, 8 carries, 8 routes, 2 targets (30 yds)

- Keaton Mitchell: 32% snaps, 4 carries, 12 routes, 3 targets (23 yds)

- Omarion Hampton: 31% snaps, 9 carries, 6 routes, 3 targets (27 yds)

RC NOTE: Now it’s probably OK to ditch Hampton in redraft...but waiting isn’t bad to see what happens today/tomorrow.

On the negative side: Nothing new installed over the bye week and nothing new on usage. Only a McDaniel firing can change this...and that doesn’t seem like it will happen but might if they get to (0-8) or something. I’m trying to hold on but it seems like a waste now if better or needed things present themselves. In Dynasty, I will sell him to a bottom team like he’s a draft pick for real players for my title march.

On the positive side: If/when they fire McDaniel, the whole thing could change.

RC vs. Ross Coffee bets (through Wk7):

More targets this season...

31 = Raymond (RC)

25 = D. Swift (Ross)

 == QUOTES & QUOTABLES ==

 -- More from Michael Wilson:

Michael Wilson just told me and @joshweinfuss that he has two broken ribs. Says he’s playing through “a lot” of pain.

“This organization’s paying me a lot of money. So if I can muster up the strength to go play, even at 60%, I’m going to.”

"This organization has changed my life. And I don't believe in taking, taking, taking. When I signed that contract, it was to put my body on the line for my teammates, for the coaches and for the org. So, there was no way that I wasn't gonna finish the game."

 -- Michael Penix Jr. when asked if he’s ever played a game like this:

“Nah man I ain’t never throw 4 picks in a game… it’s all good man ima shake back I promise you”

 -- Jim Harbaugh: "We're aware of what the issues are, and we're the only ones that can fix them." Follow up: "Are you aware of what the issues are?" Harbaugh: Summarizes the game.

Follow up: "Is Mike going to continue to call plays, Jim?" Harbaugh: "Uh, yes, not gonna address anything. I'm focused on this game and that's my focus."

Follow up: "But what from the past seven games tells you that this can be fixed? Why are you keeping him? What is the rationale?" Harbaugh: "Yeah, our motivation is a dedication to getting it changed, getting it fixed."

Follow up: "So you don't want to answer the question." Harbaugh: "I said I'm focused on this game, we're gonna go watch this tape, and I believe in our guys, I believe in our players, our coaches."

Follow up: "Jim, do you understand why I'm asking you about Mike and his role in all of this?" Harbaugh: "You've asked and I think I've answered the question, so."

Follow up: "But I've asked you about him and you haven't talked about him. You've just said vague—" Harbaugh: "I've talked about us. The team. It's the team, the team, the team. It's us."
