(same intro each day) I’m doing a daily series to determine what team I feel has the best pass game receivers in the NFL.
I was spurred to the idea when I saw a PFF similar ranking where they had the Eagles as the number one past game/receiver group. I knew that couldn’t be right, in my mind, so then I wondered who we might show as the best pass game/receiver team is in the NFL…maybe it is the Eagles? Thus, we’re here for a quick/fun tournament style series to determine just what team has that best receiver group in 2025.
We’re gonna start out going division by division putting matchups together based on the 2024 regular season standings. And we’re gonna go from division to the conference and onto the Super Bowl/our real winner.
How I’m going to determine a winner in a head-to-head matchup is in a best-of-seven style format, judging six different player matchups.
1) The first matchup in every series is the number one wide receiver head-to-head, BUT that battle is worth two points or two wins in the best of seven series. The number one WR is so critical and so important that it’s worth double any other match up.
2) The #2-3-4 matchups will be the team’s wide receivers after the number 1WR. So, who I think is the second best wide receiver versus the other team second best, then a battle of the third best, and then a battle of the fourth best wide receiver to show the depth of a team’s receiver group.
3) After we pit all the wide receivers against each other -- then it’s a look at the #1 Tight Ends against each other.
4) Then, lastly, if needed, it’s a matchup of who I think is each team‘s best receiving running back.
So, a total of six matchups but the first one counting double or seven possible points or wins, and the best of seven winning team moves on to the next round/match up.
Not going to give much commentary here, just showing the results and moving the teams on. These are my personal choices, so if you don’t like it... I don’t need to say the rest.
Saints v. Bucs
Mike Evans d. Chris Olave (TB 2-0)
Rashid Shaheed d. Chris Godwin (TB 2-1)...yes, I really believe this. I even went out and watched some of their 2024 tape to make sure.
Emeka Egbuka d. Brandon Cooks (TB 3-1)...Cooks is cooked.
Jalen McMillan d. Bub Means (TB wins 4-1)
Juwan Johnson d. Cade Otton (TB 4-2)
Rachaad White d. Alvin Kamara (TB 5-2)...if TB can make it here every time, they will never lose with Rachaad.
The Bucs roll on to the NFC South finals.
Panthers v. Falcons
Tetairoa McMillan d. Drake London (tie 1-1)...Tet will eventually be better, and might be already, but London deserves a tie in this matchup for 2025.
Adam Thielen d. Darnell Mooney (CAR 2-1)...I like Mooney but watching some Thielen work during the Bryce offseason study -- Thielen still has juice in the tank.
Jalen Coker d. Ray-Ray McCloud (CAR 3-1)
Xavier Legette d. Chris Blair (CAR wins 4-1)
Kyle Pitts d. Ja’Tavion Sanders (CAR 4-2)
Bijan Robinson d. Chuba Hubbard (CAR 4-3)
The Panthers WRs’ roll the Falcons WRs to go to the NFC South finals vs. Tampa.
Panthers v. Bucs
Mike Evans d. Tet McMillan (2-0 TB)...as much as I want to, I can’t put Tet over Evans right now.
Adam Thielen d. Chris Godwin (2-1 TB)...I flipped and flopped on this one, but gave the edge to the ageless one.
Jalen Coker d. Emeka Egbuka (2-2 tie)
Jalen McMillan d. Xavier Legette (3-2 TB)
Cade Otton d. Ja’Tavion Sanders (4-2 TB wins)
Rachaad White d. Chuba Hubbard (5-2 TB)
