We’re looking at all NFL team’s free agent moves (in and out) and their NFL Draft to see who got better and by how much -- setting the tone for analyzing them for the upcoming season for FF purposes and for betting evaluations on team over/unders, etc.
We had Grok list all the moves, and we show them first (below) and then Ross and I (RC) weigh in on what we see with all the roster moves -- how they affect 2025 only. And ultimately we pick a winner.
We’ll do two matchups per day, within each division seeded from the 2024 final standings, for 16 days...then we’ll take the 16 winners and accelerate the matchups after that and advance the best ‘offseason’ moves teams through to the ‘Super Bowl’, declaring a final winner.

Ross Jacobs’ analysis...
Philadelphia Eagles Off-season Grade: D+
Philly was backed into a corner this off-season and forced to let go of multiple starters and strong depth players because of the swelling long-term cost to extend their all-star core. Jalen Carter hasn't even received his extension yet and that's going to cost $40 million per year, so the Eagles have no other choice but to let go of lesser players to be able to afford their stars. Guys like Becton, Rodgers, Williams, Slay, Gardner-Johnson, and Sweat don't carry the team, but they are all contributors, and I guarantee all those losses are going to show throughout the 2025 season. The replacements they brought in simply aren't going to make up for all the talent that just left.
As for their draft, Campbell should be a good player in a few years, but he's still learning the position and an off-ball linebacker doesn't help this year. Mukuba is forgettable and while Robinson might be the best from this class in a few years, he also doesn't add much for a 2025 run. The team had no choice but to cut costs this off-season, but the replacement players they brought in leave a lot to be desired.
New York Giants Off-season Grade: C-
The Giants didn't lose much of anything in free agency, but brought in some decent depth and a few pretty good starters in Holland and Adebo. Did they overpay for those two? Arguably. But that's the price you pay in free agency. They weren't egregious contracts, so I'll give it a pass. The secondary is definitely better today than it was in 2024.
The draft could have been handled better to say the least. The media loves Abdul Carter, but we see some potential issues there, and Dart was just a massive waste of draft capital and won't be playing in 2025 anyways. Alexander has some potential and Skattebo might be ok if his lack of speed isn't a killer.
Winner: New York Giants
It's not pretty and it was despite their best efforts to be completely terrible again, but the Giants win this matchup by virtue of not being up against the cap due to their success like the Eagles. It's easier to improve when you are already really bad. The Giants added a (barely) viable QB in Russell Wilson and their defense should be improved with the additions of Holland, Adebo, and Carter. It's not pretty, but it's something.

Philadelphia offseason comments:
The Eagles did lose some impact players...Becton-Rodgers-Williams-Slay-Sweat, but I think all but for Becton did they have an obvious replacement on the roster or acquired one/some this offseason.
Tyer Steen moves up in Becton’s place...and while I like Becton better, Steen is fine...not a massive drop off. And they just stole Hollin Pierce as a UDFA to help add to the O-Line cause (unless there is some off-field issue with Pierce as to why he went undrafted).
Rodgers-Slay-Gardner-Johnson out of the DB group, but Adoree’ Jackson brought in, Sydney Brown elevates and Mac McWilliams + Mukuba added in the draft. A slight dip but Slay was fading away and I think Sydney Brown could be as good/better than CGJ. I don’t think this is a massive hit/downgrade.
Milton Williams and Josh Sweat gone, but Jalyx Hunt rises (and possibly is better than Sweat) and Nolan Smith has come into his own and with them stealing a look at Azeez Ojulari for added hope to make up for Sweat. Thomas Booker and Moro Ojomo elevate with Ty Robinson added as young talent to try and make up for the loss of Williams.
I do agree overall it’s an exchange of proven experience/talent out for a lot of younger players in...but the Eagles had depth/talent already at these spots. The adjustment period may not be as radical as one might fear.
The offense remains the same, for the most part, and the defense undergoes a lot of swaps/new faces being counted on...but with their depth of talent AND year two of Vic Fangio remaking this defense, there may be an early drop off on defense but still really good and then a rise as the season goes on.
On paper, you have to say Philly didn’t get better overall for 2025, per se...but they did fine this offseason to either hold the line or slow the bleeding until the new wave gets adjusted.
NY Giants offseason comments:
Russ and Winston in, Dan Jones out is a solid upgrade.
Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo are solid secondary upgrades.
Abdul Carter and Darius Alexander are nice front seven upgrades.
The Giants didn’t lose much in free agency, because they didn’t have much to lose. Just about anything they did this offseason would be an upgrade. But big picture, the free agent signings were a little late in the process, a little desperate-looking, and not that great of a shift upwards. Their draft was fine but not a super-game changer.
RC’s WINNER: NY Giants
You can argue whether Philly got worse or treaded water for 2025 with their moves...but no denying NYG clearly got better with their +/- moves...they had nowhere else to go but ‘up’.
*Officially Moving on in the Tournament* The NY Giants move on to the NFC East finals.
