2022 Dynasty/Fantasy Preseason Week 3 Game Report: Dolphins 48, Eagles 10

The Dolphins ran their (mostly) 1st-team offense for a few series (including Tua and Tyreek), and their (mostly) 1st-team defense for several series…against the Eagles mostly 2nd-team defense and 2nd/3rd-team offense…and the Dolphins did what you want to see done in this setup -- they crushed the Eagles here.

It wasn’t a fair fight but the score reflecting that is what you want to see from Miami. A lot of Miami notes here…not as many from Philly, as the score would indicate.

Dynasty/Fantasy Player Notes…

-- We got our first glimpse of Tua-Tyreek…and it was encouraging, but also a bit overblown.

On the first play of the game, Tyreek Hill (2-64-0/2) went deep and just ran by two defenders and was sprinting open…as he does. Tua let it fly, under thrown by a yard or so…Tyreek had to stop and then go sideways and slide to the ground to secure it. Great outcome, but the detailed analysis -- as we all know, Tua is not a great deep ball thrower.

Tua is a great short and short-medium thrower, however, in a clean pocket. On the second play of the game, Tua hit Tyreek on a crosser for 12 yards.

That’s what I want to see: Tua to Tyreek, early and often. I don’t care if it is not always on target…it wasn’t with Mahomes-Tyreek either, it just looked prettier when they missed (and hit). We just need targets…an abundance. We didn’t even see the small game or run game with Tyreek, nor should we in the preseason.

Everyone who is betting against Tyreek without Mahomes is making a big mistake…and I’ll buy all your FF shares in the 2nd-round.

-- Miami UDFA Skylar Thompson (7-10 for 103 yards, 3 TDs/0 INT) continues to be a revelation, one of the best-looking rookie QBs of 2022. If Miami cuts him for 53-man cut downs then they are the stupidest run franchise in the NFL, aside from the Cleveland Browns.

-- Kenneth Gainwell (2-0-0, 2-8-0/2) started this game.

I said, Kenneth Gainwell started this game. Knock-knock

The 2nd/3rd-team offense working in a Philly throwaway game…and Gainwell was out there with him.

So, I ask…how is it Gainwell is the supposed secret #1 RB for the Eagles and is working with the trash/to be cut guys in a preseason game? Boston Scott wasn’t out there…because he was given special treatment NOT to work with that ragtag group…because he is the #2…he is the (potential) secret #1 in-waiting. And the wait may last a half into Week 1.

Week 2 preseason game…Scott started and played two series with the 2nd-team…THEN Gainwell came in and worked with the 3rd-string QB/team.

The whole Gainwell thing this preseason was/is a hopeful dream that isn’t coming true.

-- A lot of RB notes for Miami…

Chase Edmonds didn’t play…a statement in itself. The lead RB of the RB-duo approach for this season.

Raheem Mostert (2-29-0) did play and looked great, as usual. Now, we await his next injury. Seriously, he looks as good as he always does. He’ll be in a split with Edmonds…like a 70 (Edmonds)/30 (Mostert).

I thought Sony Michel (5-15-0) was playing his way towards being cut here…and he did. He gone. Cut on Monday.

Myles Gaskin (6-39-0) will be the #3 RB…is my bet…but on a restructured contract (down)…or he will be cut.

We got to see Gerrid Doaks (11-67-0) get some extended work, and he looked OK…but he and ZaQuandre White (4-26-0) are perfect candidates to get released and put on the practice squad.

Edmonds/Mostert with Gaskin and Ahmed should be the Week 1 depth chart.

-- IDP notes from this game…

Philly rookie SAF Reed Blankenship (5 tackles) may have been the reason Jaquiski Tartt got the boot Monday. Blankenship looks really good…a legit NFL defender and was a big-time producer in college. He should make this team, but you never know with UDFAs.

Philly rookie DE/OLB Kyron Johnson (7 tackles) looked fast, looked like a legit NFL athlete…but played a little frantic. He’s a backup…perhaps on a roster bubble, but he was drafted…so he’s got a decent shot to be on the 53-man.

Speaking of athletic and frantic, Miami rookie LB Channing Tindall (6 tackles, 1 sack) looks the part/moves like an NFL ILB -- but made several poor angle tackle attempts and had some overrun on plays which led to missed tackles. Not a great showing but it’s still early in his development into an ILB.

For whatever it is worth, Emmanuel Ogbah (1 QB hit) was out there with the Miami 1st-team, as expected…but he was playing like/looked like he was 100 years old playing the edge. Slow-everything. He may have just been coasting for the preseason, but man it did not look good.
