2022 Dynasty/Fantasy Preseason Week 2 Game Report: Eagles 21, Browns 20
One of the dullest preseason games I’ve had to endure this year. Not a ton of notes here, good news for my wrists and future carpal tunnel.
Both teams played backups and backups to backups, so not a lot to glean here.
Dynasty/Fantasy Player Notes…
-- The most noteworthy thing from this game…
Boston Scott (8-3-1, 1-11-0/1) and played a couple series all to himself (I think it was all Scott), AND THEN Kenneth Gainwell (11-46-1) entered the game.
Scott and Gainwell are listed as co-#2 RBs on the Eagles unofficial depth chart.
As you may know, I believe Boston Scott is the best RB the Eagles possess…and if I were the GM, I’d dump Miles Sanders and run with Scott-Jordan Howard (their best run game output from 2021) with Gainwell sprinkled in various places.
Sanders is currently hurt, yet again. Boston Scott is being prepped; I think… But Philly execs are in love with Sanders, so if Sanders can run they’ll throw him out there. It takes a Sanders injury to spring Scott. If you see Sanders is going to be out longer than expected and/or Philly signs Jordan Howard, get ready.
-- Cleveland ran with their #3-4 RBs to start.
D’Ernest Johnson (2-21-0) continues to show why it’s ridiculous for the Browns to stick with Kareem Hunt (DNP) and not use him to go acquire a QB -- a Hunt for Minshew deal would be a big win for Cleveland. But they’re too stupid to do something like that…and the Eagles may have no interest.
What about…
Hunt, 4th-round pick
For
Minshew, Reagor
?
Then the Eagles could then move Miles Sanders somewhere after that.
The Browns would have a real QB for 11+ weeks and a WR they could use/take a look at. Philly gets a real lead RB they need (to get rid of Sanders).
Likely never to even be discussed.
Jerome Ford (9-31-0, 4-26-0/4) came in after D’Ernest and looked really nice for the 2nd-week in a row…further reasoning why the Browns should move Hunt and let Johnson-Ford backup Chubb.
-- We got to see more Browns rookie WR David Bell (3-46-0/4) here! Zzzzzzzzz.
A boringly solid WR, stuck working with Jacoby Brissett for the next 11 games…great.
-- Philly 2022 free agent signing, former Oregon track star, Devon Allen (1-55-1/2) sprinted deep for a bomb and Reid Stinnett threw a perfect ball with Allen 3+ yards ahead of coverage for a long TD. A great play, but no other sign of any Allen breakout of any kind.
-- Jalen Reagor (2-17-0/4) physically looks great as a WR…quick off the snap, glides when he moves. It’s all the other parts of playing WR Reagor has been struggling with. He needs a fresh start out of Philly…not sure if he’ll get it by Week 1 or not. There are NFL teams interested. I know Cleveland could probably use him, but…what does it matter to Cleveland? Their season is lost (but they don’t think so).
-- Eagles rookie UDFA Alabama CB Josh Jobe (7 tackles, 1 PD) wasn’t horrible here…he has a shot to catch on to the 53-man.
-- Browns rookie Cade York (2/3 FGs) has some Evan McPherson traits but he’s working in a much worse offensive environment and works in a bad home stadium to kick out of, over time.
York nailed a 50-yarder in this game, then blasted a 55-yarder square off the uprights and a ‘miss’…it would’ve been good from 65+ probably.
