Leading up to the NFL Combine week, I go through 20-30 minutes of scouting preview work on each prospect set to attend -- I watch a couple game tapes and look over some of their career performance data, etc., and then I give each prospect a pre-event scouting grade for the NFL based on that brief look. For some attendees, I've spent an extended scouting time on them already from preview scouting them and then observing them at the Senior Bowl week.
After we get all the official Combine measurables and times, etc., I will complete a post-Combine grade for all attendees and then start to run our scouting analytics (from statistical grading) on those who did all the workouts at the Combine, for the others we have to wait for their Pro Day data.
The Combine (and Pro Days) are key data points to know which prospects to study deeper and file full scouting reports on pre-and-post Draft. Our computer scouting models will give analytic grades on approx. 100 RB prospects for this draft (and, ultimately, we'll run grades on approx. 600+ overall prospects for this draft).
This pre-and-post Combine preview is a very brief look for me, as a scout, to continue to build my database and scouting notes for the weeks and months ahead, and to then focus in on certain prospects that are jumping at me from the early preview. The Combine previews are a first, sometimes second or third look (for me) at a prospect attending -- but my impressions/grading can and will change as we go through the year-long process of scouting these guys right up through the NFL preseason.
After a January-February preview study, here are my impressions, grades, and ranking of each position going into the 2023 NFL Combine (except O-Line, we'll look at OLs after the Combine).
The Cornerbacks…
CB Christian Gonzalez, Oregon (pre-Combine grade: A)
2022: 50 tackles, 7 PDs, 4 INTs (12g)
6'2”/200
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 10
Pre-Combine Comments:
A very natural, super talented corner. He's worthy of the praise and high pre-Combine national rankings. I cannot dispute any of it. So smooth. Has size, length, aggression, foot work, and an on-field attitude (in a good way for a CB). If he's not the single best CB in the draft, then he's top 2-3…and it means this is a killer/great CB class.
NFL Comp? = Jalen Ramsey
Highlight Package: https://youtu.be/ekFjWU6o9YA
CB Emmanuel Forbes, Mississippi State (pre-Combine grade: A/A-)
2022: 46 tackles, 10 PDs, 6 INTs, 3 INT return TDs (12g)
6'0”/180
Projected 40-time: 4.3+, might be 4.2s…
Projected 3-Cone: 6.8 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 50
Pre-Combine Comments:
Possible 'best in class' CB here. Excellent closing speed. He's going to be a high turnover creator laying back on routes and then closing in on simple throws. 14 career college picks…six, yes 6, returned for TDs. He's got great feet and is an aggressive in-your-face coverer, as needed -- and flies into the backfield to make tackles using his superior straight-line speed. Mirrors all routes well, east-west or north-south. Really talented CB…part of this onslaught of new era, elite skills CB talent hitting the NFL. Love what I saw here at first glance.
NFL Comp? = Better Aaron Robinson?
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/jv7u6pcMcG8
CB Joey Porter Jr., Penn State (pre-Combine grade: A-)
2022: 27 tackles, 11 PDs, 0 INT (10g)
6'2”/195
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 10
Pre-Combine Comments:
I cannot find flaw. He's really good. I thought he might be hyped because of his name/family legacy…but, nope -- he's really good. He's in the argument for top CB in the draft.
NFL Comp? = Patrick Surtain
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/G3vZO0jzRAk
CB Carrington Valentine, Kentucky (pre-Combine grade: A-/B+)
2022: 48 tackles, 10 PDs, 1 INT (12g)
6'0”/195
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.8+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 150
Pre-Combine Comments:
He just jumps off the screen as a really talented, energetic shutdown corner. Great feet. Aggressive, in-your-face style. Has mirroring skills and a toughness to be a shutdown corner in the NFL.
NFL Comp? = Jaire Alexander
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/FopmxQcIM8E
CB Julius Brents, Kansas State (pre-Combine grade: B+)
(Post-SB Grade: A-, Pre-SB Grade: C+)
2022: 28 solo, 17 asst, 3.5 TFLs, 4 INTs, 4 PD, 1 FF (14 games)
6'3”/202
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.8 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Post-SB comments:
I'm going to lean into this one… With the rise of CBs like Tariq Woolen and Sauce Gardner…the long but speedy/swift-footed in cut-ability CBs are worth their weight in gold…and there is no more 'they'll be good in the future, with 1-2 years under their belts' thinking. Woolen and Gardner walked into the league and are arguably two of the top 3 corners in the league already.
I like what I saw of Brents' preview…but watching him in Mobile confirmed that he's more on the ready-day-one side of things.
Blew away the rest of the CBs with a 'wow' wingspan of 82 and 7/8ths inches.
NFL Comp? = More Tariq Woolen/Sauce Gardner than I realized at first glance.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
A tall, long and lanky cover corner…an aggressive cover corner. He's decent in coverage but sometimes plays too far off…or gets too aggressive and can over-run his mirroring coverage. He hits/tackles like a linebacker, when he wants to…a lot of highlight hits but not a lot of tackle counts. An intriguing raw piece of clay to work with here.
NFL Comp? = Keith Taylor (CAR)
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/739qP0yDfaw
CB Devon Witherspoon, Illinois (pre-Combine grade: B+)
(Post-SB Grade: C, Pre-SB Grade: C)
2022: 32 solo, 9 asst tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 3 INTs, 14 PDs
6’0”/175
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 30
Pre-Combine (update from original)
Studying him deeper…I get it now. He won me over. I see a really good cover corner here. Very good cover skills, hard-nosed, confident, fast/quick. He’s better than I first saw on the preview.
-----------------------------
Post-SB comments:
Skipped the Senior Bowl, which is smart because I think he would have fallen in the draft when people got to see him working next to these other bigger, better top guys.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
A very aggressive, yappy, sometimes sloppy cover corner. He has all the confidence in the world, but he also gets so hyped he overruns plays and gets lost misreading coverage a bunch too. He’s a solid prospect with upside but he might be more bark than bite. I want to see that speed because he needs to be faster than I saw on tape to be an NFL starter.
NFL Comp? = Jaire Alexander
CB Riley Moss, Iowa (pre-Combine grade: B+)
(Post-SB Grade: B, Pre-SB Grade: B)
2022: 31 solo, 16 asst tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1 INT, 11 PDs, 2 FF (12 games)
6'1”/194
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.7+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Post-SB comments:
Showed his athleticism. Looked like he struggled some in 1-on-1 drills because he was trying not to commit PIs (when everyone else was mugging the WRs), but he really didn't struggle. He's fine.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
Really nice movement skills. Very good mirroring WRs and terrific recovery/closing speed on passes. He's built muscular like a safety and is a willing tackler…could be a safety if needed but is a legit cover corner with good size and technique.
NFL Comp? = Not as aggressive version of Nate Hobbs, possibly.
Video highlights: https://youtu.be/_QQ1YRNVU8g
CB Rejzohn Wright, Oregon State (pre-Combine grade: B+)
(Post-SB Grade: B+, Pre-SB Grade: B+)
2022: 24 solo, 14 asst tackles, 2 INTs, 9 PDs
6'2”/196
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 175
Post-SB comments:
Was fine. Didn't hurt or radically help his draft stock. I still like him more than the analysts. The next market move on him: His Combine times. Was pleased he came in 1” and 5-pounds bigger than the initial list.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
I loved this tape. I'm about 16 of 22 Senior Bowl DB previews in (the random order I'm studying them in), and I found my first 'this is a real shutdown corner hopeful' guy. I then went to see how highly rated Wright was on various draft sites, and he's not even listed on half+ the boards. He looks terrific to me -- excellent mirroring corner, is glued to his receiver. Long arms and great tracking to bat passes away. Could be the best corner at the Senior Bowl.
NFL Comp? = Looks, to me, and I need to do a full study to be sure, like a little shorter Sauce Gardner.
Video highlights: https://youtu.be/VoUla6AgImg
CB Deonte Banks, Maryland (pre-Combine grade: B+/B)
2022: 38 tackles, 8 PDs, 1 INT (12g)
6'1”/200
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.8+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 75
Pre-Combine Comments:
Really nice movement skills…can sprint deep with receivers or run their routes with them with ease. Really swift feet and solidly built and aggressive. He's a legit NFL corner. Could work outside or be a bully slot WR if needed.
NFL Comp? = Better/swifter feet version of Marlon Humphrey?
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/djg4hop4V-Q
CB Clark Phillips III, Utah (pre-Combine grade: B)
2022: 24 tackles, 6 PDs, 6 INTs (12g)
5'10”/191
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 40
Pre-Combine Comments:
Phillips is a really solid cover corner, but he's not an optimal size for the NFL…as an outside corner. Not doom, but not optimal in the era of the bigger/longer corners flooding the league. Outside of that, he's really good at CB…aggressive, smart, athletic but not an 'A' in any area…but solid 'Bs' all the way around.
NFL Comp? = D.J. Reed
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/cCgsS1wDy5c
CB Kelee Ringo, Georgia (pre-Combine grade: B)
2022: 42 tackles, 7 PDs,
6'2”/205
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 30
Pre-Combine Comments:
A good-looking (physically) CB prospect…suspect to be a 'great' CB prospect, but it's on the table. Big, physical…knows what he is doing. He's just a hair slower a-foot in reactions to routes/cutting than the other top CBs of this era…in my first glance. We'll see what the Combine says about his speed…but he was a high-end sprinter in track & field from his high school days. But he's really solid otherwise…like a safety-size/thickness playing CB.
NFL Comp? = A slower Patrick Peterson/Derek Stingley type CB?
Highlight package: https://youtu.be/a_JMTh65J2Q
CB DJ Turner, Michigan (pre-Combine grade: B)
2022: 36 tackles, 10 PDs, 1 INT
6'0”/181
Projected 40-time: 4.25+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.5+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Pre-Combine Comments:
Rumor has it that Turner is a threat to break Combine records in the 40-yard dash and in the three-cone…that will be huge for his prospect status if he pulls it off…or gets even close to it. On tape, you can see the movement skills…I think it could be more 4.3+ 40-time and 6.6+ three-cone, but these guys (new era prospects) are getting so good in prep for the Combine, I put nothing past Turner to break records. He's a solid corner…his quickness helps. He's filling his (used-to-be thinner) frame out, which is helping his overall game/prospectus. 'A' grade potentially.
NFL Comp? = Justin Coleman
CB Jaylon Jones, Texas A&M (pre-Combine grade: B)
2022: 33 tackles, 2 PDs, 0 INT (10g)
6'2”/205
Projected 40-time: 4.45
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Pre-Combine Comments:
Solid all the way around…good cover skills but is also a good tackler. He's almost safety-like playing CB. He may not be a #1 shutdown CB, but he'll be a great, reliable #2 CB worst case.
NFL Comp? = Bradley Roby, back when he was a really good CB for Denver.
CB Eli Ricks, Alabama (pre-Combine grade: B)
2022: 13 tackles, 4 PDs, 0 INT
6'2”/196
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Pre-Combine Comments:
Transferred from LSU to Alabama in 2022. Looks legit on tape. Not super-elite, but pretty good. NFL starter worthy right away. Long and lean and a decent athlete.
NFL Comp? = slower Trevon Diggs
CB Cam Smith, South Carolina (pre-Combine grade: B-)
2022: 27 tackles, 5 PDs, 1 INT (11g)
6'1”/187
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 30
Pre-Combine Comments:
Another solid/good cover corner. Good worker, good size…it's just as I preview scout these 2023 CBs, they're all so good, some great…that Smith is just average among the good. Nothing wrong with that…upside to great possible, like a few of these 'B' grade CBs.
NFL Comp? = Charvarius Ward
CB Tyrique Stevenson, Miami (pre-Combine grade: B-)
(Post-SB Grade: B-, Pre-SB Grade: B)
2022: 18 solo, 7 asst tackles, 1.5 TFLs, 2 INTs, 7 PDs
6'0”/204
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 75
Post-SB comments:
Looked as expected. Solid. Did come in 10 pounds lighter than expected/pre-listed.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
I'm a fan. A very active, aggressive corner but shows good technique in coverage and does a nice job jamming WRs off the snap. He also has played some safety, and he tackles like a safety, so Stevenson is well rounded for the NFL with a sturdy frame and good speed.
NFL Comp? = Jamel Dean, only thicker and possibly more athletic.
Video highlights: https://youtu.be/r2RFt3JaVsE
CB Alex Austin, Oregon State (pre-Combine grade: B-/C+)
2022: 57 tackles, 10 PDs, 2 INTs (12g)
6'1”/185
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 150
Pre-Combine Comments:
Nice movement skills…stops and starts on a dime. Aggressive in coverage and hitting but doesn't have the body to be a hitter…he's meant to be an outside, medium and deep covered…and a pretty good one potentially.
NFL Comp? = M.J./Martin Emerson
CB Terell Smith, Minnesota (pre-Combine grade: C+)
2022: 38 tackles, 5 PDs, 2 INT (13g)
6'1”/215
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 6.9+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 300
Pre-Combine Comments:
A decent cover corner who also projects as a safety. I watched tape of him as a pure cover corner…and as an outside linebacker/safety. His versatility and athleticism should get him drafted and he might be one of the better pure player values out there. A track & field sprinter speed as well. He may be into the 'B' grades with a good+ Combine.
NFL Comp? = Bigger Jamel Dean?
CB Jay Ward, LSU (pre-Combine grade: C+)
(Post-SB Grade: C+, Pre-SB Grade: C+)
2022: 43 solo, 17 asst tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 1 INT, 4 PDs
6'1”/186
Projected 40-time: 4.45
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 150
Post-SB Comments:
Ward didn't stand out as something special here, for me, but I did notice a few times making solid plays. He held his grade…didn't hurt or radically harm or help his draft stock here…more helped/solidified.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
A really solid 'football player', emphasis on football player. The guy has a nose for getting to ball carriers and making tackles, picking his way past traffic/blockers and making clean/quality tackles. He has played both corner and safety at LSU. Feels like a safety from the tape but is a little thinner then you'd typically like at NFL safety. He could easily be 'B' grade talent with more study and if his play shines at the Senior Bowl.
NFL Comp? = Julian Blackmon
CB Garrett Williams, Syracuse (pre-Combine grade: C)
2022: 36 tackles, 3 PD, 2 INTs (7g)
6'0”/190
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Pre-Combine Comments:
An OK corner talent, nothing special. He's got NFL skills. He'll work. I don't see signs of a top starter talent.
NFL Comp? = Trent McDuffie
CB Cory Trice, Purdue (pre-Combine grade: C/C-)
2022: 34 tackles, 10 PDs, 2 INTs (13g)
6'3”/210
Projected 40-time: 4.55+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 350
Pre-Combine Comments:
A safety to begin his career, moved to CB the past two seasons and was not bad. Obviously, a 'big' CB…safety-like look, but that's the new wave of CBs. Isn't a speedster but is fairly fast and very aggressive. He could go back to safety if CB doesn't pan out.
NFL Comp? = Richard Sherman look and feel, but not as good at this stage…but aspires to it.
CB Kyu Blu Kelly, Stanford (pre-Combine grade: C-)
(Post-SB Grade: C-, Pre-SB Grade: C/C-)
2022: 26 solo, 9 asst tackles, 6 PDs
6'1”/193
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.1+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 100
Post-SB comments:
Didn't impress me one way or the other here.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
Very good north-south runner…nice closing speed. Struggles going east-west with agility to stay up with crossing/cutting routes and receivers. Has size and skills/technique but may struggle at the Senior Bowl with covering on sharp routes.
NFL Comp? = A little smaller Caleb Farley
CB Mekhi Garner, LSU (pre-Combine grade: C-/D+)
2022: 43 tackles, 8 PDs, 0 INT (13g)
6'2”/210
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.1+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 125
Pre-Combine Comments:
Looks like a future safety, to me. Big, sturdy CB who looks like a SAF more than a CB…but he also plays more like a SAF. Good enough speed for CB, but suspect agility/cut-ability to keep up with WRs on routes…saw he get burned often trying to go east-west. He has NFL tools, just not sure what the best fit is going to be or how high the ceiling is.
NFL Comp? = Siran Neal?
CB Darius Rush, South Carolina (pre-Combine grade: C-/D+)
(Post-SB Grade: C-/D+, Pre-SB Grade: D+)
2022: 28 solo, 10 asst tackles, 2 TFLs, 2 INTs, 7 PDs (10 games)
6'1”/196
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.1 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 200
Post-SB comments:
Rush was always popping up randomly with eye catching coverage moments…when I wasn't really expecting it or looking for it. He seems to be a 'ball player'. If he can have a decent Combine, his draft stock should rise into the top 150.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
I could be seeing it poorly, but Rush seems/feels (on tape) a little too slow to be a great NFL CB prospect. He has nice size and good+ reach and he is fairly fast once he gets up to speed, but in short burst acceleration he seems a little too clunky…and that could get him exposed at the Senior Bowl week.
NFL Comp? = Christian Benford
CB Arquon Bush, Cincinnati (pre-Combine grade: D+)
2022: 34 tackles, 5 PDs, 2 INTs
6'0”/185
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 300
Pre-Combine Comments:
Plays corner like a safety…loves to hit. Plays corner aggressively. He kinda jumps off the tape a bit with his energy and aggressiveness. Could be a 'C' grade or higher after the Combine.
NFL Comp? = Reminds me a bit of a young Bradley Roby
CB Mekhi Blackmon, USC (pre-Combine grade: D+)
2022: 66 tackles, 12 PDs, 3 INTs
6'0”/175
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 200
Pre-Combine Comments:
Not a bad corner. A little thinner-framed. Nothing special at first glance.
NFL Comp? = A Troy Hill hope?
CB Jakorian Bennett, Maryland (pre-Combine grade: D+)
(Post-SB Grade: D+, Pre-SB Grade: C-/D+)
2022: 26 solo, 13 asst tackles, 1.5 TFLs, 2 INT, 11 PDs
5'11”/200
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.1 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 200
Post-SB comments:
Didn't leave any impression one way or the other, for me.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
A solid, not special, cover corner…at first glance. He has NFL size and athleticism, but none of it showing at a high-level. Aggressive and scrappy. He can rise in grade if he can stand out at the Senior Bowl and put-up nice numbers at the NFL Combine.
NFL Comp? = Could be a Jerry Jacobs-a-like
CB Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, TCU (pre-Combine grade: D+)
2022: 50 tackles, 15 PDs, 3 INTs (15g)
5'9”/177
Projected 40-time: 4.45+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 125
Pre-Combine Comments:
Solid player -- good technique, great effort/energy, closes on the ball well, tackles with effort/safety-like. The problem, if it is, is his size/height. He'll have to be a slot CB and hope NFL teams won't turn their noses up at him. He needs a glowing Combine or he's going to fall to the #175-250 draft rank range. He could rise to a 'C' grade and a justified top 150 player with great Combine showing.
NFL Comp? = Trying to be an Avonte Maddox type
CB Darrell Luter, So. Alabama (pre-Combine grade: D+)
(Post-SB Grade: D+, Pre-SB Grade: D+)
2022: 29 solo, 13 asst, 0.5 TFLs, 1 INT, 7 PDs
6'0”/191
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 250
Post-SB comments:
Had a solid enough showing. Worthy of a mild upgrade in our grading. Had the pick-six in the game itself.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
Solid enough college corner, but forgettable from the tape I watched. He didn't do anything wrong but wasn't much of an impact player or coverer. He looks like he has NFL size and movement skills, but no area stood out. We'll see if the Senior Bowl week raises him up or throws him into UDFA status.
NFL Comp? = Antonio Hamilton
CB Anthony Johnson, Virginia (pre-Combine grade: D+)
(Post-SB Grade: D+, Pre-SB Grade: D)
2022: 34 solo, 17 asst tackles, 3 TFLs, 2 INT, 12 PD
6'1”/207
Projected 40-time: 4.55+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.1+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 200
Post-SB comments:
Had a solid enough showing. Worthy of a mild upgrade in our grading. Had the pick-six in the game itself.
---------------------------
Pre-SB Comments:
Didn't like this preview. A little too lumbering…not a fluid athlete in movement like all the others here. Perhaps, a move to safety? But still, I don't think the Combine/Pro Day numbers are gonna be there for him for the NFL. We'll see.
NFL Comp? = Lesser Bryce Hall (NYJ)
CB Nic Jones, Ball State (pre-Combine grade: D+)
2022: 23 tackles, 12 PDs, 2 INT (11g)
6'0”/185
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 350
Pre-Combine Comments:
Moves around well enough but was kind of passive in coverage on the tape I watched. Has some NFL hope but needs to add muscle and needs to run well at the Combine.
NFL Comp? = Poor man's Troy Hill
CB Kei'Trel Clark, Louisville (pre-Combine grade: D+)
2022: 51 tackles, 4 PDs, 1 INT (12g)
5'10”/177
Projected 40-time: 4.4+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0 +/-
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 200
Pre-Combine Comments:
Scrappy, quick, smaller corner. Will have to be a slot CB if he makes it in the pros.
NFL Comp? = Not as fast Javelin Guidry
CB Cameron Mitchell, Northwestern (pre-Combine grade: D+/D)
2022: 52 tackles, 9 PDs, 1 INT (11g)
5'11”/190
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 150
Pre-Combine Comments:
Didn't look like anything special at first glance. Generically good for college. Looked a little small and hesitant for the pros. Maybe there's more here I'll discover with more tape review.
NFL Comp? = Jourdan Lewis
CB Cameron Brown, Ohio State (pre-Combine grade: D)
2022: 14 tackles, 5 PDs, 0 INT (8g)
6'0”/190
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 325
Pre-Combine Comments:
An OK enough cover corner…nothing special. Average size and average movement skills.
NFL Comp? = Shaun Wade
CB Lance Boykin, Coastal Carolina (pre-Combine grade: D)
2022: 58 tackles, 8 PDs, 2 INTs
6'2”/210
Projected 40-time: 4.5+
Projected 3-Cone: 7.0+
Consensus mainstream NFL Draft ranking overall: top 350
Pre-Combine Comments:
Good sized, good-looking body but man…the tape I watched, he did not look good. Missed tackles…played way off receivers. Not impressed.
NFL Comp? = Christian Benford
CB Myles Brooks, Louisiana Tech (pre-Combine grade: D-)
2022: 29 tackles, 8 PDs, 3 INTs
