2022 Mock Five Round Dynasty Rookie Draft (from the #7 spot)
Just to get a few practice sessions in/looks in for May 2022 DRD concepts. Using the FantasyPros rookie draft tool, which isn’t great but is useful for this exercise…and reflects a good amount of the mainstream thinking. We can argue their ADPs, etc., but they’re close/within a margin of error on their top 30-40-50…close enough.
The rules are – I HAVE TO make the pick. In reality, I want to trade out of 1.02 to 1.12 to fade back to the #16-20 range and get a ____ for my fallback trouble, or that concept within an even bigger deal. My 1st + a player for their 2nd and a bigger player. I don’t want to pick in the first round, if I can help it…but in case you have to, here’s some ways I’ll go about it and you can decide your own plans or adopt some of my advice…
Starting at 1.12 and going backwards to 1.01, since most FFMers finished #1-2-3 range last season. ;)
1.1 Breece Hall
1.2 Drake London
1.3 Garrett Wilson
1.4 Jameson Williams
1.5 Treylon Burks
1.6 Ken Walker III
1.7 Chris Olave = If I were taking a player to keep, I would have taken Dameon Pierce…on my gamble he’s got the fastest path to starting of any of the non-Breece RBs. Alternatively, if I had a tie-in to my existing RB, I would consider taking a Rachaad (Fournette) or Spiller (Ekeler), etc.
Again, I must say…trade this pick for a #16-18 range pick and ______ assets…the spread from giving a 1.07 to falling to a 2.06 (let’s say) is a nice player to fill in the blank. How nice? Depends on your trade partner’s roster and situation.
In the end, I want you to get what you can, because I’ll take anything…because I would take Allgeier 1.07 just fine, so swapping picks to fade back is meaningless to my roster operations…so then it’s all about the asset I can get to fade back in the DRD. Sometimes I hit a homerun in a fade back deal, sometimes I hit a double.
You’re not getting an RB1 or WR1…or any RB2 or WR2 with a big name or RB1/WR1 potential for fading back, but like an Elijah Mitchell…Kadarius Toney…Trey Lance…Chase Claypool type players are on the table as something others are giving up on. You may chuck in a small asset/player to lock in a chase for a bigger player = your 1st + small player for their 2nd and really nice player.
I took Olave as a guy who fell that I think has good trade value…less now because Jarvis Landry signed there. If you perceive Skyy Moore has more value to deal, or James Cook or whatever…go for it.
1.8 Skyy Moore
1.9 Rachaad White
1.10 James Cook
1.11 Kenny Pickett
1.12 George Pickens
---------------------------------
2.1 Christian Watson
2.2 Jahan Dotson
2.3 Isaiah Spiller
2.4 David Bell (on the move higher lately…word of him starting in the slot)
2.5 Malik Willis
2.6 Dameon Pierce (if you could wind up with two 2nds to get Pierce-Allgeier, then Woods 3rd…or late 2nd, with a third 2nd-rounder – it would be awesome).
2.7 Tyler Allgeier = All day long.
2.8 Zamir White
2.9 Alec Pierce
2.10 John Metchie III
2.11 Desmond Ridder
2.12 Jalen Tolbert
---------------------------------
3.1 Wan'Dale Robinson
3.2 Brian Robinson Jr.
3.3 Ty Chandler
3.4 Trey McBride
3.5 Justyn Ross
3.6 Khalil Shakir
3.7 Jelani Woods = All day long 2.0.
My DRD plan is to leave with Allgeier-Woods 2nd-round or later…and whatever else happens, whatever else I get is a free ride in this DRD period.
3.8 Hassan Haskins
3.9 Danny Gray
3.10 Tyrion Davis-Price
3.11 Matt Corral
3.12 Greg Dulcich
---------------------------------
4.1 Pierre Strong Jr.
4.2 Jerome Ford
4.3 Calvin Austin III
4.4 Tyquan Thornton
4.5 Sam Howell
4.6 Daniel Bellinger
4.7 Isaih Pacheco = I missed out on him last mock (from the #8 spot) trying to get him 5th-round, so I took him 4th-round hoping Kyle Phillips falls to the 5th to me.
You could also take interesting, existing NFL players of note here…and we mentioned a few of those names in our past few mocks.
4.8 Kyren Williams
4.9 Romeo Doubs
4.10 Tyler Badie
4.11 Keaontay Ingram
4.12 Abram Smith
---------------------------------
5.1 Velus Jones Jr.
5.2 Jeremy Ruckert
5.3 Zonovan Knight
5.4 Samori Toure
5.5 Jalen Wydermyer
5.6 Charlie Kolar
5.7 Kyle Phillips = I love it when a plan comes together.
Again, you could also take interesting, existing NFL players of note here…and we mentioned a few of those names in our past few mocks.
5.8 Cade Otton
5.9 Tyler Goodson
5.10 Isaiah Likely
5.11 Kevin Harris
5.12 ZaQuandre White
