2022 Mock Five Round Dynasty Rookie Draft (from the #12 spot)

Just to get a few practice sessions in for May 2022 DRD concepts. Using the FantasyPros rookie draft tool, which isn’t great but is useful for this exercise…and reflects a good amount of the mainstream thinking. We can argue their ADPs, etc., but they’re close/within a margin of error on their top 30-40-50…close enough.

The rules are – I HAVE TO make the pick. In reality, I want to trade out of 1.02 to 1.12 to fade back to the #16-20 range and get a ____ for my fallback trouble, or that concept within an even bigger deal. My 1st + a player for their 2nd and a bigger player. I don’t want to pick in the first round, if I can help it…but in case you have to, here’s some ways I’ll go about it and you can decide your own plans or adopt some of my advisement…

Starting at 1.12 and going backwards to 1.01, since most FFMers finished #1-2-3 range last season. ;)

1.1 Breece Hall

1.2 Treylon Burks

1.3 Jameson Williams

1.4 Drake London

1.5 Garrett Wilson

1.6 Ken Walker III

1.7 Skyy Moore

1.8 Chris Olave

1.9 Christian Watson

1.10 Jahan Dotson

1.11 Kenny Pickett

1.12 Dameon Pierce = I hate making this pick late 1st-round. I would trade out of 1.05-1.12/#5-12 overall without hesitation…trading to get to #16-22 range to get Allgeier then Woods (almost assured to get that right now), but alas I cannot do that with this exercise.

I debated James Cook, who fell a bit here…but I went with Dameon Pierce as the most likely RB in this range to be named the starter early and/or to have great summer training camp articles that would include speculating he’ll take out the easy-to-take-out Mack-Rex. Cook isn’t going to be named starter over Singletary this offseason.

When Pierce gets heat, I’d look to trade it…or keep it…depending.

I really debated just taking Allgeier here, in reality…and then taking Woods next -- just to get what I want, and I could do that but I thought I’d try to have it all – take a player here, hope Allgeier is there next/2nd (iffy) and then take Woods 2nd if Allgeier gone…but the risky/long shot hope is Allgeier 2nd then somehow Woods 3rd. At the 1.12…it’s improbable to pull off, but I went for it here to discuss scenarios.

----------------------------------

2.1 James Cook

2.2 Isaiah Spiller

2.3 George Pickens

2.4 Rachaad White

2.5 David Bell

2.6 Trey McBride

2.7 Malik Willis

2.8 Brian Robinson Jr.

2.9 Jalen Tolbert

2.10 John Metchie III

2.11 Alec Pierce

2.12 Tyler Allgeier = My choice of either Allgeier or Jelani Woods…if really faced with this choice at 2.12, I’d go with what you ‘feel’ or (as a tiebreaker) what’s best for your current roster.

RB or TE need more important for your roster needs?

Do you have CPatt? And it makes sense to do Allgeier then? Etc.

----------------------------------------

3.1 Desmond Ridder

3.2 Zamir White

3.3 Khalil Shakir

3.4 Wan'Dale Robinson

3.5 Hassan Haskins

3.6 Matt Corral

3.7 Tyrion Davis-Price

3.8 Jelani Woods

3.9 Kyren Williams (you gotta be kidding me)

3.10 Jerome Ford

3.11 Romeo Doubs (rising in DRDs this week, from several reports)

3.12 Isaih Pacheco = Dang it. Woods is almost never going this late, but…I tried to be greedy for this exercise. I settled on an RB (Pacheco) who I think could be the best of the 2022 class, potentially. There’s enough here for me to make the leap for him…but he’s normally a 4th-round grab.

I debated Kyle Phillips or Pacheco here, and I went with the RB first…hoping Phillips would still be left next time I picked.

-------------------------------------------

4.1 Tyquan Thornton

4.2 Justyn Ross

4.3 Daniel Bellinger

4.4 Velus Jones Jr.

4.5 Pierre Strong Jr.

4.6 Greg Dulcich

4.7 Sam Howell

4.8 Danny Gray

4.9 Calvin Austin III

4.10 Tyler Badie

4.11 Keaontay Ingram

4.12 Kyle Philips = Happy. I think Phillips is one of the best WRs in this draft, the possible go-to for Tannehill (over Burks)…but also the possible ‘takes 2-3 years before the team really discovers this’. The Cooper KuppHunter Renfrow…Edelman type reliable WR.

-------------------------------------------

5.1 Jeremy Ruckert

5.2 Jalen Wydermyer

5.3 Ty Chandler

5.4 Cade Otton

5.5 Kevin Harris

5.6 Charlie Kolar

5.7 Sincere McCormick

5.8 Chigoziem Okonkwo

5.9 Snoop Conner

5.10 Kennedy Brooks

5.11 Trestan Ebner

5.12 Cole Turner = Just a flier that he’ll be a TE weapon quickly at his size/reach…especially interested if I have Logan Thomas at TE already.
