2022 Mock Draft 2.0 (PPR, 4pts pass TD, Flex, 17 rounds, #10 slot)

I’m going to do a redo of my Mock 1.0…same exact parameters/draft slot, but with some adjusted/targeted plans on a few players. Namely…

-I’m looking to target Cordarrelle Patterson in the 6th-round and Rashaad Penny in the 7th-round to go with a probable 2nd-round RB, but maybe a 1st-round RB (if one fell my way, like Mixon). I want CPatt and Penny as possible value RB1s that I can count on for my lineups and/or have as trade chips if they all hit. Starting RBs always have currency/value, and I’m looking at CPatt/Penny as nice undervalued assets to secure -- even if it makes my roster RB heavy…I can use that to my advantage later in various ways.

-I’m likely to land an elite-five/top 5 WR in the 1st, where I’m picking (#10)…but then I’m likely to fade WRs from there.

-If Kyle Pitts is there in the 3rd-round, I might pull the trigger…if not, I’ll fade TEs for later (Knox, Engram, Hurst), and I’m getting at least two TEs from this draft.

-Because I plan to get one RB in the 1st/2nd and then two RBs 6th-7th, and WRs in-between…I might sneak a QB in the 5th, just to lock in one of ‘my guys’ that I want to work with. Herbert-Burrow-Hurts types.

-I missed Allen Lazard last mock, I won’t this time…I’ll plan to take him 8th-round.

The framework plans this time…

1st-2nd = RB/WR, WR/RB

3rd = Pitts?

4th-5th = Leaning WR, then QB

6th = CPatt

7th = Penny

8th = Lazard (or Gage as a fallback)

9th = TE search may begin

10th+ = depends upon what happened rounds #1-9.

OK, here we go…

1st-Round (pick 1.10)

1.1 Christian McCaffrey

1.2 Jonathan Taylor

1.3 Austin Ekeler

1.4 Derrick Henry

1.5 Dalvin Cook

1.6 Cooper Kupp

1.7 Najee Harris

1.8 Alvin Kamara

1.9 Justin Jefferson

OK, this is a better start – Mixon fell to me, which allows me to get a high-end RB that I like and then try and bank on Chase-Adams being still available/possible for my 2nd-round pick, four picks from now…and if they go ahead of me, Tyreek is sitting out there.

I could also swerve from the WRs and take them 3rd-4th-rounds and maybe take Javonte Williams as a gamble instead. Probably not going to do that because Tyreek-Evans are legit WRs that will be available 2nd-round.

1.10 Joe Mixon

=================================

2nd-Round (pick 2.03)

1.11 Ja'Marr Chase

1.12 Javonte Williams

-----------

2.1 D'Andre Swift

2.2 Davante Adams

…and in the four picks in front of my 2nd-pick…three of the guys I just mentioned went. Javonte went 10+ spots higher than typical ADP. Hey, you got to be ready for anything.

The elite WRs that I was hoping for are gone (Chase, Adams). I can get Tyreek here. Mike Evans is available. Saquon Barkley, who I have a lot of interest in with his fallen state, is available. Do I go RB-RB then if Pitts is out there next, I don’t take a WR for several rounds? I don’t like that plan. When it comes to high end talent, I want the WR over the un-trustable RBs…as a default mode in a 50-50 decision. I’m gonna take Tyreek and see what falls to me in the 3rd.

I am looking at Pitts or James Conner as my next targets – but both could be gone, they were last mock…and it’s why I hate this #10 spot draft (all the unsurety and odds-against of my 3rd-round hopes).

Let’s go with Tyreek and then see where the chips fall.

2.3 Tyreek Hill

2.4 Stefon Diggs

2.5 Travis Kelce

2.6 Nick Chubb

2.7 CeeDee Lamb

2.8 Aaron Jones

2.9 Josh Allen

2.10 Leonard Fournette

2.11 Deebo Samuel

2.12 Ezekiel Elliott

3rd-Round (pick 3.10)

3.1 Saquon Barkley

3.2 Mark Andrews

3.3 Mike Evans

3.4 Keenan Allen

3.5 A.J. Brown

3.6 James Conner

3.7 Kyle Pitts

3.8 Michael Pittman Jr.

3.9 Breece Hall

All my top names/hopes to fall…didn’t fall. No Pitts…no Conner…no Mike Evans long shot fall. I absolutely hate these 3rd-round options (after my hopes are gone). There are players I like OK, but I hate their cost…and then we got another pick in five more picks, and it ain’t going to get any better of options. I like the 5th-6th-7th-rounds much better.

OK, what to do?

I could take the ‘best available’, whatever that means – someone perhaps to sell-off pre-Week 1. I could reach for guys like Justin Herbert, but I don’t wanna reach for a QB in 4pts per pass TD. I’m gonna take a BATT player. What’s a BATT player? ‘Best Available to Trade’.

I think the best BATT player right here is Cam Akers. Second mock in-a-row, same parameters, and I’ve been backed into Akers in the 3rd. I like him OK, but he’s not a ‘fave’.

3.10 Cam Akers

3.11 Antonio Gibson

3.12 Travis Etienne Jr.

4th-Round (pick 4.03)

4.1 Justin Herbert

4.2 Jaylen Waddle

I know what I’m going to do 5th-6th-7th, Hurts/Burrow-CPatt-Penny…so, what to do in the 4th? It’s not going to be TE. So, if I’m going to wind up with four RBs in the first 7 rounds…don’t need to force RB here. Really, it’s ‘best WR available’.

Tee Higgins has fallen. McLaurin-Metcalf are out there, as is Big Mike and Sutton. I think I’ll go Higgins, which might connect with Burrow, if I take Burrow next…along with already having Mixon.

4.3 Tee Higgins

4.4 Terry McLaurin

4.5 George Kittle

4.6 Patrick Mahomes II

5.2 Michael Thomas

5.3 Brandin Cooks

5.4 Amari Cooper

5.5 Courtland Sutton

5.6 Mike Williams

5.7 Jerry Jeudy

5.8 Josh Jacobs

5.9 Clyde Edwards-Helaire

I’m not getting any real breaks in this mock either. When I name options I’m interested in the round prior, it’s a near guarantee they’ll be gone when I next pick. I am growing to really hate this #10 slot. Something just isn’t connecting right for me…but we’re about to get to ‘my plan’ part of the draft, so maybe it will feel better if I hit on what I want in a row.

I want to take QB here, then CPatt, then Penny…going by the ADPs. Hurts or Burrow? Well, I was gonna take Hurts in 4pts per pass TD here…but I have Higgins-Mixon already, so let’s do a stack and go off a cliff together with Joey Burrow.

5.10 Joe Burrow

5.11 Darren Waller

5.12 Marquise Brown

6th-Round (pick 6.03)

6.1 Dalton Schultz

6.2 Lamar Jackson

6.3 Cordarrelle Patterson

I’m going to pick Patterson here, banking on Penny being available in the 7th-round. I see WRs like Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney and Elijah Moore available, but I have to go RBs here and then WRs after, based on market supply and demand.

If this cursed draft stays true, I’ll take CPatt and Penny will be taken before I pick again (a lot of picks before my next one…)

6.4 Kyler Murray

6.5 Chris Godwin

6.6 Allen Robinson II

6.7 Jalen Hurts

7.3 Tom Brady

7.4 JuJu Smith-Schuster

7.5 Russell Wilson

7.6 Darnell Mooney

7.7 Damien Harris

7.8 Matthew Stafford

7.9 DeVonta Smith

Well, finally a plan is not thwarted. Rashaad Penny is available. I will take him and close the book on RBs for a while. I will look to take Chris Evans to handcuff Mixon and Allgeier to work with CPatt.

I think Penny should start as the main lead Week 1, and then have a shot to be an RB1 talent like he was late last year – that he’s just too good to deny. He only needs to stay healthy – it’s the only issue he’s ever really faced.

7.10 Rashaad Penny

8th-Round (pick 8.03)

8.1 Brandon Aiyuk

8.2 Devin Singletary

8.3 Dawson Knox

Kenneth Walker is available, but I’m betting on Penny to win…I don’t want to waste a pick on his backup/cuff this highly.

Dawson Knox, Trey Lance are available…Allen Lazard should be there with my next pick, but no guarantee.

I want all three of those guys. I am going to go for Knox and play the ADPs to hope Lance and Lazard are among those to consider for the next two picks.

8.4 Treylon Burks

8.5 Hunter Renfrow

9th-Round (pick 9.10)

9.1 Julio Jones

9.2 Kareem Hunt

9.3 Tyler Lockett

9.4 Allen Lazard

9.5 Christian Kirk

9.6 Tony Pollard

9.7 Garrett Wilson

9.8 James Robinson

9.9 Skyy Moore

Lazard continues to go higher than I project in this range of the draft. I lost him…again. But Lance is still out there. So too is Chase Edmonds and Kenneth Walker, but I’m not looking for any RBs right now. I need WR more. I am going to pull Trey Lance here and then roll dice on the Claypool-Toney types.

I could take Claypool-Toney back-to-back and bypass Lance. Looking at available QBs, it’s really Lance remaining that I have high interest in…if I pass on Lance, then I’ll just go Mariota very last pick – but that’s a big gamble. I think Lance could be a white hot 4pts per pass TD QB so I’m going Lance then WR…and then WR again 11th-round likely. Hopefully MVS in the 11th.

10th-Round (pick 10.3)

10.1 Ken Walker III

10.2 Chase Edmonds

10.3 Russell Gage

Well, I have my choice of Claypool or Toney, but Russell Gage is sitting right there. Do I take the boom-bust upside WRs, or get on early Brady-Gage while Godwin is out? I’m starting to like this team/draft better, so I need legit WRs to help – I’ll bet on Gage for a fast start with high volume Brady…and then see what young WR falls to the next round. I will love it if any of Claypool, Toney…or a lesser love option if MVS would be there next.

10.4 James Cook

10.5 Michael Gallup

10.6 Isaiah Spiller

10.7 Chase Claypool (dammit)

10.8 Rhamondre Stevenson

10.9 Christian Watson

10.10 Alexander Mattison

10.11 Jarvis Landry

10.12 Darrell Henderson Jr. (I wasn’t worried about an earlier pick handcuff give the RB depth I believe I have. I will use late picks on handcuff insurance, but I don’t want to burn a 10th-rounder on one)

11.5 Tyler Boyd

11.6 Jakobi Meyers

11.7 Jameson Williams (dammit)

11.8 Jamaal Williams

11.9 Dameon Pierce

Of course, all my WR hopes were taken. Of course, they were. Well, I can try and trade for them preseason perhaps.

Looking at the available pool of WRs…I don’t like it. Names I like personally but somewhat or fully hate their situations. All my slick WR plays are gone. So, it goes…you can’t get everybody…

Do I play like a Kenny Golladay bounce back…or try and get a hot start with D.J. Chark in Detroit with Jameson Williams out for a bit (potentially)? After that it is a great depression of WRs…I can take Bryan Edwards and/or Isaiah McKenzie late.

I need a WR now…unless I look at a falling (once again) Zach Ertz and consider him as a flex hope working with Hopkins out for the first few games. But I like Engram-Albert O.-Hurst later just as well.

I’m going to reach for Kenny Golladay and if it fails, so be it.

12th-Round (pick 12.03)

12.1 Jahan Dotson

12.2 Cowboys DST

12.3 Tyler Allgeier

Ertz, Chark are among the names still out there. Ertz had great targeting with Arizona with Hopkins out later in the season, but Marquise Brown is there now too. I think I can wait on my other TEs and be just as happy.

I have 6 picks remaining. A DST and PK. At least one backup TE. Allgeier, I want. Chris Evans I should/will get for early Mixon protection. That’s five players I can get any time I want. If I take another WR it would be Bryan Edwards or Isaiah McKenzie.

I’m going to get all the guys I want if I take them in the right order, and some I’m the only one on so I can literally wait until the very end.

Taking a player next likely to go, I’ll take Allgeier to fit in with CPatt…and if Allgeier wins the job and kicks CP out to WR, then that’s insurance too.

I’m going to take Justin Tucker, for old time’s sake…and his later Week 10 bye. The A.I. grading system is gonna hate this!!!

17th-Round (pick 17.10)

I wrapped this up taking Chris Evans…just an insurance chip against any Mixon preseason ACL tear, etc. I may not even have Evans by Week 1, but this far out I take Evans as insurance because if Mixon goes down in August, it would be a massive smack to the face.

Might Perine be the proper handcuff? Maybe. But Evans is the talent, and if Cincy was embarking on the season without Mixon, I think Evans would wind up being the main guy/star eventually.

Well, the FantasyPros experts hated my draft…thankfully. A ‘D-‘…an ‘improvement’ from my ‘D’ last time.

Honestly, I’m not crazy about this draft either…which is two in a row. There’s something that isn’t sitting right with me. I think it’s the out-of-my-control ways of the first 3-4 rounds. I feel like I’m reacting to everything…that I’m not in control. Usually, I have a delightful plan for rounds 2-3-4-5 and just need to see what happens in round one and then I shine as we go deeper in the redraft. But right now, everything just feels off. It may be that I’m not in the FF spirit yet.

I’m gonna do the next mock from a top five spot to see if it is the #10+ spot that’s the early mock issue for me.

Here’s the details from FPros if you wanna see: https://fntsy.pro/OWDp0XON
