 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

EARLY INJURY NOTES...

 -- Pat Surtain is OUT

-- SAF Budda Baker set to play.

-- Nick Emanwori expected to play today.

-- CB Denzel Ward is game-time decision.

-- Breece Hall likely out, but will test ahead of game.

-- The Falcons defense keeps getting good news this week... I would not be surprised if they full out upset the 49ers today. Zadarius Smith and Gervon Dexter are expected to play.

-- Olamide Zaccheaus leaning OUT could launch Zachariah Branch today.

 --

-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that several teams believe the Jaguars could trade WR Brian Thomas Jr.

It's not speculation, it's a fact. The Jaguars are going to trade Brian Thomas Jr. the second that they can.

The way I hear it, the Jaguars have been open to trading him for a while now, but they're not getting the offers they were hoping for. When they saw that Marvin Harrison Jr. got traded for what he did, they thought there might be a nice little market for BTJ...but there isn't.

MHJ was in an entirely different hype cycle. People still believe he's a generational talent. Houston sees the C.J. Stroud improvement and is investing in things that he wants. A lot of tailwinds pushed that into a pretty nice deal for Arizona to get out of that mess.

But no one thinks BTJ is a generational talent, and the more he plays, the more he doesn't do anything, and whatever hope people had, they're losing that hope. And, like Marvin Harrison Jr., it's a big payroll guy who will want a big extension soon--because teams made the mistake of making them first-rounders a couple years ago. Jacksonville is getting such low offers that they're in a position where they might as well just keep him.

My prediction on what's going to happen, potentially, over the next few days: If the Giants lose this week, then Washington remains 2 games out of first with a long way to go, and they would do a watered-down version of acquiring their quarterback's wide receiver buddy from college and replace Terry McLaurin. The current Washington staff and possibly the GM are in win-now mode or they're all gonna get fired, so taking a dart throw at BTJ turning around with Jayden Daniels is the act of desperate people.

The Giants may get into this trade race because Malik Nabers is gonna push for BTJ. However, the Giants' focus right now is trying to get a big upgrade at running back, so they are probably not as hot to make a move at wide receiver right now.

One way or the other, Brian Thomas Jr. is being traded, and I have no interest in him for fantasy football purposes ahead of that because it doesn't matter to me where he lands, and I don't think there's gonna be that much excitement when he arrives at his new place to where you could get BTJ off of a waiver wire in redraft and flip him in the heat of the moment. I just don't think there's that much appetite or interest in BTJ. Only the fans of the acquiring team of Thomas are going to be excited about this.

-- (headlines) Jonathan Taylor being the subject of many trade discussion articles...

Where there's smoke, there might be fire. I find it hard to believe that the Colts want to trade Jonathan Taylor, but you never know what nutty owners will do. And that's not me taking potshots at the wacky female running the Colts...because I can and do make fun of 15+ other male owners. I was the original defender of the Irsay spawn taking over—it seemed like she took it seriously, and she couldn't be worse than her dad. Welp...

I don't think Jonathan Taylor is getting traded anytime soon because the Colts are still ‘in it’. Media, fans, and many fantasy owners panic at the first sign of any trouble and/or are bad at math. The Colts are (2-4) right now. If they win this week, they'll be a game out of the playoffs, probably maybe 2 at the most...with 10 games left to go. Their team is mostly intact; all they did is fire the GM, and technically that's a positive for the team. Chris Ballard hasn't done anything for the Colts in a decade. The Colts definitely didn't get worse, and they probably got better the day Ballard was fired. That doesn't mean they're giving up on the 2026 season. It just means they made a 5+ years too late personnel decision on the GM. It affects nothing on the field.

In a couple of weeks, if things aren't getting better for the Colts, then we'll talk about who they might be trading. But they have no reason to be selling off things now. Hell, even the teams that have all the reasons to sell things off haven't begun selling things off. Why do we think the Colts are gonna trade Jonathan Taylor because sack of **** (at his job), do-nothing Chris Ballard got fired?

FYI... The media pushed Chris Ballard as one of the true geniuses among all NFL GMs for like 9 out of the last 10 years, so file that away in your memory banks if you think that the media and the NFL intelligentsia really knows what it's doing when it comes to football things.

-- I'm hearing more and more chatter from people that I trust that Dallas is trying to dump George Pickens, but like most NFL teams, Dallas is asking way too much.

If Dallas loses Monday Night Football to the Philadelphia Eagles and sinks into third place, and Pickens has another drifting game—Jerry might get pissed and just dump him. They're not looking at picks per se right now, but more looking at defensive players to possibly bring in. But they're overvaluing Pickens in those deals. And the teams dumping real defensive players are probably falling out of the race and trying to acquire draft picks, not a headcase wide receiver who is essentially gonna be a free agent at the end of the year.

The team name that I've heard most associated with a deal for Pickens is the Kansas City Chiefs. Other team names associated or theorized in a possible deal are the 49ers, the Seahawks, and the Rams. Tampa Bay might be interested if they win this week and get within a game of first place...lose and they're drifting further and further into last place.

I mention this not because I want to break any interesting news about Pickens...it's more so to say maybe one of the craftier pickups to sit on and see what happens that might be on waivers is Ryan Flournoy. If Pickens gets moved, then Flournoy is gonna be a huge beneficiary.

FYI

Also, teams aren’t making any strong moves for Brian Thomas Jr. if Pickens among others will be in play soon...

Contest winners, my plan is to start shipping out your cards this upcoming week as long as I don't get totally crushed with football action. When I ship them, I will e-mail you to let you know they're on the way so you can keep a lookout for them.

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

-- HEADLINE: Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Bam Knight will handle “a lot of work” on early downs with Jeremiyah Love (ankle) sidelined.

This is a pretty nice endorsement by LaFleur. At least it lets you know that Knight is effectively the starter, but it's gonna be in a split because coach also went on to talk about how Tyler Allgeier is always going to be a support back.  I'm sure that's the first time he heard that and he was so thrilled to hear it period.

Every backfield's headed to a split unless you have one of the handful of unquestioned solo starters.

-- HEADLINE: Pat Surtain (ankle) is questionable to play in Week 7 against the Cardinals.

This is one to watch for Magic Mike.

If Surtain is back who do you think he's going to cover/shadow?

But if they move Wilson around and don’t hang him out to dry, he’s got a better chance to produce...but then JaQuan McMillan is one of the best slot cover corners as well.

==A GEMINI note/report out from NFL database and my NFL notes database:==

Pat Surtain II travels and shadows specific number-one wide receivers on a matchup-by-matchup basis rather than remaining static on one side of the field.

How Denver and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph deploy him involves several specific tendencies:

  • Boundary Shadowing: When facing a clear alpha outside receiver—such as DK Metcalf, Mike Evans, Davante Adams, or Ja'Marr Chase—Surtain tracks them from left to right on roughly 65% to 85%+ of their perimeter routes.
  • The Slot Exception: While Surtain will occasionally follow receivers inside, the Broncos prefer to keep him along the boundary. When a targeted receiver shifts into the slot, Denver often passes coverage off to their nickel corner or safety rather than having Surtain follow into the interior on every down.
  • Opponent-Dependent Game Plans: If an opponent lacks a dominant perimeter WR1 or features a balanced, committee-style passing game, Denver will leave Surtain playing sides (predominantly left cornerback) and run standard zone and matchup principles.

Arizona's Plan with Wilson in a Pocket Passing Game

  • Strict Drop-Back Timing: Without an elusive quarterback buying four seconds out of the pocket, Arizona’s passing game lives on quick, 3-to-5 step drops. Wilson is tasked with winning immediately at the top of 10-to-12 yard routes (digs, deep outs, glance routes off play-action) where the ball must come out on time.
  • Protecting the Perimeter Release: If Surtain jams Wilson on the outside, a statuesque pocket quarterback cannot afford to wait for a delayed boundary release while Joseph’s blitz packages get home. Arizona has to scheme Wilson off the line using bunch formations, stacks, and motion across the formation to give him clean air at the snap.
  • Working the Intermediate Middle: Arizona leans into Wilson’s size to box out defenders over the middle third. Instead of asking him to win down the sideline against Surtain’s recovery speed, they’ll run him on crossing routes behind Trey McBride to attack linebackers and safeties on layered concepts.

Vance Joseph and Denver's Counter

  • Aggressive Boundary Press: Against a pure pocket setup, Joseph doesn't have to devote a spy or keep his pass rushers in strict lane containment. Surtain can play hard, disruptive press-man on the boundary, knowing that any hitch or reroute by Wilson at the line blows up the entire timing of Arizona’s drop-back.
  • Dialing Up Five- and Six-Man Pressures: Denver’s blitz rate goes up. Joseph will test Arizona's pass protection, daring the quarterback to beat Surtain on an outside island before the pressure arrives.
  • Funneling Targets to the Nickel/Safety Matchups: If Surtain locks Wilson down on the perimeter, Denver will happily force Arizona to beat them through secondary options—Kendrick Bourne or tight end Trey McBride—where Joseph can use bracket coverage in the intermediate middle while leaving Surtain isolated outside.

-- HEADLINE: Seahawks ruled out Zach Charbonnet (knee) for Week 7 against the Chiefs.

Things are getting weird with Charbonnet. Misinformation's happening. Trade rumors are popping up for running backs. That little stretch where Seattle claimed Robert Henry among other RB moves makes me think Seattle is worried about something here.

According to our medical research in the summer we didn't think Charbonnet would even be back until Thanksgiving or beyond. That he possibly might miss the whole season.

If you think there's something weird going on with Charbonnet, Jadarian Price would be an interesting RB to try to acquire while his value was down some being on the IR

 .

-- HEADLINE: Mike Evans (Achilles) will not play in San Francisco’s Week 7 game against the Falcons.

I think the winners from the Evans targets will be distributed mostly to George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey, and a small spread around to Brandin Cooks,Jordan Watkins, Christian Kirk.

If I had to guess a non-Kittle or a non-McCaffrey, you almost have to go with Cooks.

-- HEADLINE: Trent McDuffie (groin) is questionable to play in Week 7 against the Raiders.

This information will affect Tre Tucker some for Week 7 projections, but not egregiously. This is the Rams' top cover guy, and he may be out again this week.

It probably helps Brock Bowers more than it does Tucker. McDuffie's not gonna chase Tre Tucker all over the field, I don't believe. McDuffie just makes the Rams' entire pass defense more suffocating. But his absence opens things up for everyone involved.

 .

-- HEADLINE: Puka Nacua (calf) is questionable to play in Week 7 against the Raiders.

Just on my chit-chat with football friends and sources, they mostly think Puka Nacua will be held out... That there's growing concern within the Rams organization that this season's about to get away from them, and a loss this week to the Raiders could really derail things. The Rams' injury list right now is filled with multiple Hall of Famers, and Puka Nacua may join the injury list... And maybe even miss another week beyond this.

-- HEADLINE: Rashee Rice (hamstring) will not play in Kansas City’s Week 7 game against the Seahawks.

You'd think Rice being out means that Xavier Worthy is going to get all the work, and I'm sure they'll lean on him, but remember Kansas City is facing Seattle. They've got some really good coverage people across the board. They might focus on Worthy and try to make either Andrew Armstrong, Cyrus Allen, or Jalen Royals try to beat them... which doesn't necessarily make them fantasy-worthy either against that ace Seattle defense.

I'm sure Kansas City is going to try to wreck them with Kenneth Walker III against his old team. But Seattle is probably going to stack the run, so maybe there will be a little bit of space for one of the young Kansas City receivers to have a day, because KC will need it.

-- HEADLINE: Lamar Jackson (ankle) said he’s “heading in the right direction” when asked if he’d play in Week 7.

My sources, for what they're worth, strongly think/mostly think Lamar's not gonna play Week 7. We'll see.

-- HEADLINE: Buccaneers ruled out Emeka Egbuka (concussion/foot) for Week 7 against the Panthers.

Baker back and Egbuka out... Who's gonna step up to be Baker's number one?

You’d think Chris Godwin, but none of the Buccaneers QBs have really been leaning on Godwin all year... They may have to now.

All I can remember is, before Baker went out, he was trying to force a lot of passes to Ted Hurst in times of trouble.

And Baker also will make more usage out of Cade Otton when there's wide receiver issues.

@DhananiZain: Chris Godwin from the slot (2025-26, 262 routes):

YPRR: 1.18

TPRR: 15%

Panthers Defense vs slot WRs:

YPRR allowed: 0.63 (fewest)

TPRR allowed: 12% (fewest)

-- HEADLINE: Tyler Warren (groin) will not play in Week 7 against the Vikings.

Keenan Allen was the top beneficiary of Warren being out last week. The wrinkle with that for this week is they're facing the toughest pass defense in the league. There may not be a lot to go around for Allen or any of them.

-- HEADLINE: NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson reports David Montgomery (groin) will not play in Week 7 against the Giants.

Montgomery is out again. Jawhar Jordan went on IR. This is going to be an all-in moment for Woody Marks against a Giants defense that just lost one of its key linebackers for the season.

All Houston has besides Marks is Dare Ogunbowale... who they just got from Las Vegas but who used to play for them. I don't think he's any real threat to Marks. This could be a real big week for those of us who have been holding on to Marks.

== INJURY CENTER/WARD ==

-- Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Josh Jacobs is on track to play in Week 7 against the Lions.

-- Jordan Mason is questionable, with O'Connell positive about his chances of being available.

Kevin O'Connell: “A really good week of work. We'll work through what that looks like, but he is technically questionable right now. No other player will go in with a designation for the game. So we've been able to get a little more healthy. We'll talk to Jordan and see, but things are looking positive for him being available.”

-- Ravens HC Jesse Minter announces OLB Tavius Robinson has suffered a season-ending injury and will not return this year. He has been listed on the injury report with a pectoral injury.

-- Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Breece Hall (quad) will be questionable for Week 7 against the Dolphins.

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

TNF First Reactions...

-- Three Caleb Williams FULL starts and they’ve scored 59-31-30 points in those games, and they are (3-0).

We start out the betting week (1-0)...and we move closer to the ‘over’ wins ladder at 9.5 to 10.5 to 11.5.

-- Those two touchdowns right before the half, in the final two minutes, where there were very basic throws to a receiver and then the receiver turned up field and literally just ran through and by all the defensive players that were standing there like they'd never played football before. It's almost like the someone hit the pause button on the video game controller that was controlling the defense but the offense was still allowed to move. I've never seen anything like it. That kind of exchange in a short period of time with the defense out the lunch period especially that Rhamondre Stevenson play. That was ridiculous.

If you have the misfortune of facing Rhamondre this week in fantasy, you get to enjoy pondering that oddball score before half for the next three days. If you started Rhamondre for your own team, then you're gonna have a great rest of the week. If you had Rhamondre and benched him, more pain and suffering until Sunday.

One play changes entire weeks.

The NFL is a cruel mistress.

-- I think it was Colton Loveland’s second target of the game where he totally gaffed the easy catch... And then I declared on our Discord game chat to everyone that Loveland had, at the time, 32 (game) minutes to win me back or I was gonna walk away.

I just had to fire him up apparently is the key to success with him, because from that point on he had his best game of the season. Sometimes fantasy football be like that.

-- I have absolutely no idea what the New England Patriots are doing with their running back group. A combined 13 carries for 44 yards between their RB trio. Corey Kiner (4) out carried TreVeyon Henderson (3).

I don't think Mike Vrabel likes Henderson as a football player, so I wouldn't be shocked if they traded him in a deal to get veteran help for the stretch run.

-- With several patriots wide receivers on IR and A.J. Brown not looking good, and Kyle Williams treated like a pariah--a bit strong very productive the last two weeks Demario Douglas to get over 34 yards receiving in this game, and of course he didn't do jack squat because why would you go and throw the ball to your most productive receiver the last two weeks in a game you know you're gonna have to throw the ball and score points to keep up with the Bears? You don't need to answer.

-- PART I: Sam LaPorta on not receiving an extension from the Lions, via @PardonMyTake: "You know, like last year, whatever it was, Week 9, Week 10, you know, I break my fu*king back for the team and then I'm going out there this year and I'm balling and maybe they're just not showing the love ... And in three months, if I don't get to wear the Honolulu blue and play for the Lions anymore, it's going to be all good. I'll go get paid somewhere else."

PART II: The rebuttal: https://x.com/Section344Lions/status/2112991548484796764?s=20

PART III: I wholeheartedly agree with the rebuttal. I also wonder what the Lions stance will be from here. They cold dumped TJ Hockenson pre-contract extension time because they weren’t gonna pay him and didn’t want to get into a thing. LaPorta may find himself in that same position. Or they may use him up then cut him free.

I think you’ll see LaPorta try to walk it back with the fans, but the damage was done...especially with the organization and management.

If I were an NFL player...I would never do a podcast nor speak to the media unless mandated and then I would be boring on purpose and say nothing. If I made it 10+ seasons then I might start giving my views on things perhaps...to set up a secondary career. Or at least wait until your big 2nd contract is finalized before you start talking.

Not that what LaPorta said isn’t true...it’s just, you can’t be so stupid and immature as to say it out loud freely, publicly.

-- Mayfield says his dislocated thumb did not require surgery and is strong enough to play

Baker Mayfield: “If there's impact, there's gonna be a pretty solid plate on the back of the glove that will prevent that. If there's an impact hard enough to do it again, it wouldn't matter if I had previously dislocated the joint anyway. It would happen. Anytime you dislocate something, there's gonna be ligament damage. It just didn't happen to be the ligaments and tendons that I needed surgery on. So, just giving it time to heal, doing as much as possible to come back stronger and work on that. And, yeah, it's football. If something like that happens, that's the nature of the game, unfortunately. But we've gotten into a place where it's strong enough to be able to play.”

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

TNF NE at Bears... A couple of pre-thoughts on this to start the day:

-- The Bears with a healthy Caleb Williams might be one of the three best teams in football. Consider that when they’ve had a healthy Caleb...

They crushed Carolina opening day, and that’s a top-five NFL team that had its defense intact for that game.

They were on their way to scoring to potentially beat undefeated MIN in the rain Week 2, then Caleb—as he was in the red zone headed towards a pass to the end zone or could’ve run it into goal-to-go or better—fell over with his torn hamstring. And then last week Caleb returned to play one of the hotter/better teams of late (ATL), and the Bears completely dismantled them.

The Bears are showing signs of being as dominant a team as there is in the NFL. Not without flaws, and like any NFL team, they could lose a game where turnovers, in-game injuries, or the refs swing it... But the team racking up big ‘style’ points with quality wins right now is the Caleb-led Bears.

-- Roschon Johnson played A LOT last week in key situations. Chicago splits their RB work. The Bears have a lot of offense, and Roschon could get a decent little slice of it tonight. He may FF outscore any NE back as the #3 Bears RB having to do #2 work tonight.

-- New England lost two starting OLs for this game, while the Bears' O-Line is getting stronger.

Bears have the edge at O-Line, QB, and offense, and they are roughly even in defensive metrics. Slight defensive edge to New England overall.

 --------------------------

-- I am seeing Cam Little get cut in several leagues because he's on his bye week. I am a huge Cam Little fan. He's so talented at such a young age.

When I see Little getting cut, it made me think about whether it made sense to swap Little and Aubrey in the big picture for redraft or dynasty... Just the concept of it. Is it time to move off of Aubrey? Is Cam Little the smarter play because of his age?

So, I ran a comparison of key numbers in Gemini on the five kickers I believe are at the top of the mountain for fantasy kickers, but then I also included Evan McPherson as a kicker I knew was good, but I just wanted to see how close he was to the rest of the group.

Here’s my research info from my database, if you’re interested... And GEMINI gave it back to me in order of fantasy points per game, highest scorer:

*Note that for Spencer Shrader, he doesn't have the same comparison span as the other guys because he got seriously injured and missed most of 2025. So I took his five games of 2025 plus his six games in 2026, and I put him at the bottom because it's not the fairest comparison, but it's interesting—he is the highest scorer, but he has different game counts and the injury.

Kicker performance from Week 9 through Week 18 of the 2025 regular season PLUS the first 6 weeks of the 2026 season (standard fantasy kicker scoring: 3 pts for 1–39 yds, 4 pts for 40–49 yds, 5 pts for 50+ yds, and 1 pt for PATs):

Brandon Aubrey (Dallas Cowboys)

  • Games Played: 16 (10 in 2025 Weeks 9–18, 6 in 2026 Weeks 1–6)
  • FGs Made / Attempted: 36 / 42 (85.7%)
  • FGs Made Per Game: 2.25
  • 50+ Yard FGs Made / Attempted: 13 / 16 (81.3%)
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: 0.81
  • Fantasy PPG: 10.8 PPG (173 total fantasy points)
  • Scouting Takeaway: Unmatched consistency from deep. Aubrey maintained his routine pace of roughly four 50+ yard attempts every five games down the stretch in 2025 and into early 2026, delivering an elite fantasy floor.

Ka'imi Fairbairn (Houston Texans)

  • Games Played: 16 (10 in 2025 Weeks 9–18, 6 in 2026 Weeks 1–6)
  • FGs Made / Attempted: 37 / 41 (90.2%)
  • FGs Made Per Game: 2.31
  • 50+ Yard FGs Made / Attempted: 12 / 14 (85.7%)
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: 0.75
  • Fantasy PPG: 10.6 PPG (170 total fantasy points)
  • Scouting Takeaway: Fairbairn was historically prolific during the back half of 2025 on his way to tying David Akers' single-season field goal record. He matches Aubrey blow-for-blow in 50+ volume while carrying a slightly higher conversion clip in this span.

Will Reichard (Minnesota Vikings)

  • Games Played: 16 (10 in 2025 Weeks 9–18, 6 in 2026 Weeks 1–6)
  • FGs Made / Attempted: 32 / 34 (94.1%)
  • FGs Made Per Game: 2.00
  • 50+ Yard FGs Made / Attempted: 10 / 12 (83.3%)
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: 0.63
  • Fantasy PPG: 9.9 PPG (158 total fantasy points)
  • Scouting Takeaway: Reichard was First-Team All-Pro caliber through late 2025 and stayed automatic into 2026. He set franchise records for 50+ makes and second-longest kick in Lambeau Field history (59 yds), keeping him firmly in the top tier of fantasy kickers.

Cam Little (Jacksonville Jaguars)

  • Games Played: 16 (10 in 2025 Weeks 9–18, 6 in 2026 Weeks 1–6)
  • FGs Made / Attempted: 28 / 31 (90.3%)
  • FGs Made Per Game: 1.75
  • 50+ Yard FGs Made / Attempted: 8 / 11 (72.7%)
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: 0.50
  • Fantasy PPG: 8.6 PPG (137 total fantasy points)
  • Scouting Takeaway: Little's volume saw a notable uptick starting mid-season 2025 (highlighted by his NFL-record 68-yard kick), carrying over into regular 60-yard looks in 2026. His fantasy PPG jumped significantly in this recent split compared to his early rookie sample.

Evan McPherson (Cincinnati Bengals)

  • Games Played: 16 (10 in 2025 Weeks 9–18, 6 in 2026 Weeks 1–6)
  • FGs Made / Attempted: 24 / 28 (85.7%)
  • FGs Made Per Game: 1.50
  • 50+ Yard FGs Made / Attempted: 5 / 8 (62.5%)
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: 0.31
  • Fantasy PPG: 8.1 PPG (129 total fantasy points)
  • Scouting Takeaway: Healthy throughout late 2025 and 2026, McPherson rebounded from his early-career slump to hit 85%+ overall. However, Cincinnati's red-zone TD efficiency and mid-range field goal volume keep his per-game attempt rate trailing Aubrey and Fairbairn.

*I highlighted blue where Shrader would’ve led the group above.

Spencer Shrader (Indianapolis Colts)

  • Games Played: 11 (5 in 2025 + 6 in 2026)
  • FGs Made / Attempted: 31 / 32 (96.9%)
  • FGs Made Per Game: 2.82
  • 50+ Yard FGs Made / Attempted: 5 / 5 (100.0%)
    • 2025: 1/1 (52 yds vs LAR)
    • 2026: 4/4 (58 yds vs BAL, 58 yds vs HOU, 52 yds vs WAS, 57 yds vs PIT)
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: 0.45
  • Fantasy PPG: 10.8 PPG (119 total fantasy points: 53 in 2025 + 66 in 2026)

Contextual Comparison (Against the Group in Similar 11–16 Game Spans)

  • FGs Made Per Game: Shrader (2.82) actually leads the entire group in raw volume per start, edging out Fairbairn (2.31) and Aubrey (2.25).
  • 50+ FGs Made Per Game: Aubrey (0.81) and Fairbairn (0.75) still represent the absolute ceiling for deep shot frequency, with Reichard (0.63) right behind. Shrader (0.45) slots in right around Little (0.50), but with 100% conversion efficiency from distance so far.
  • FG Accuracy: At 96.9% (31-for-32), Shrader is the most efficient of the bunch over this stretch, ahead of Reichard (94.1%), Fairbairn (90.2%), Little (90.3%), Aubrey (85.7%), and McPherson (85.7%).
  • Fantasy PPG: At 10.8 PPG, Shrader matches Brandon Aubrey (10.8) and Ka'imi Fairbairn (10.6) for the highest per-game production among all six kickers.

RC NOTE: What makes Cam Little a little more interesting among the group, for dynasty, is he's only 23 years old. Will Reichard is about to turn 26. Spencer Shrader is 27. Brandon Aubrey is 31 and Ka'imi Fairbairn is about to turn 33.

With all this information, the conclusion that I came to was—when it comes to Brandon Aubrey versus Cam Little, I'm just going to stick with Aubrey. I also concluded I was making too much of Little when I take into perspective Reichard is fairly young too and is outperforming him in just about every way. And I grabbed Reichard in different places the week he was on a bye.

Trying to predict kickers going forward by looking backwards is maybe helpful, but it's so hard to predict these kickers ahead because so much is about just random dumb luck of teams getting to midfield right before halftime so they're willing to take a shot on a 65-yard field goal because time's gonna expire, versus the teams that don't get a bunch of those opportunities for whatever random reason, and maybe they're a team that is more offensively progressive and goes for it more on fourth downs.

I don't detect any problem with Aubrey right now, so I'm not gonna try to get super cute at this moment. My advice to you on what to do with this group of kickers—do what you want. I'm not gonna pound my fist on the desk stating that I know everything about the future of these great kickers and what's the best way to play it for 2030. I just know Aubrey has been a boss, so why should I change now because I'm throwing a temper tantrum over the last two weeks? That's my thinking. I'm not saying that's right.

-- The sign that your coaching staff is in do or die/get fired mode: The #Commanders have hired Steve Wilks to work with the defensive coaches under Dan Quinn and Daronte Jones, per me and @RapSheet. The decision to hire Wilks was made last month. He started last week. Wilks will help with game planning. He won't be with the team on game days.

Steve Wilks hired to ‘help’ is a giant laugh. I’m not sure what he has helped ‘positively’ for a while now.

-- @Ihartitz: The Patriots giving Corey Kiner 11 carries was certainly wonky. Obviously don't want 3-back committees in fantasy football land.

That said: Old enough to remember last season when Mike Vrabel threw his arm around "Terrell Jennings" and said "We found out five-minute back" after some surprising usage. Jennings would go on to have 19 touches in his last five games of the year.

Top 3 Most Dropped by Position (Week 7 Waivers)

Quarterbacks

1 = Jalen Hurts, Eagles Hurts was placed on IR with a lower-leg/calf issue and faces an extended multi-week absence. Without open IR designations on their rosters, shallow-league managers were forced to cut him loose for immediate streaming production.

2 = Jameis Winston, Giants After lighting up fantasy box scores in relief, Winston was benched late in Week 6 as Brian Daboll turned to rookie J.J. McCarthy to inject life into the fourth quarter. With McCarthy pushing heavily for the starting nod, Winston was dropped in bulk.

3 = Justin Herbert, Chargers Herbert continues to average under 14 fantasy points per contest in Mike McDaniel's offense and has now been designated to bench-stash or outright drop territory in 10- and 12-team redraft leagues.

Running Backs

1 = MarShawn Lloyd, Packers Lloyd's involvement in Green Bay's backfield has completely evaporated into a three-way committee behind Kaleb Johnson and Chris Brooks, averaging under 3.5 yards per carry and prompting mass abandonment across all fantasy platforms.

2 = Keaton Mitchell, Chargers Mitchell has been unable to carve out standalone touch volume in Los Angeles' backfield rotation, leading fantasy managers to clear his roster spot for active volume fill-ins.

3 = Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Commanders With Washington entering their bye week and Croskey-Merritt relegated to single-digit backfield touches, fantasy managers routinely dumped him off benches.

Wide Receivers

1 = Romeo Doubs, Patriots Doubs was officially placed on Injured Reserve following a severe lower-body injury suffered in Week 6, making him an automatic cut across all redraft formats.

2 = Terry McLaurin, Commanders McLaurin exited Week 6 with a knee injury and Washington heads directly into their Week 7 bye, prompting squeezed managers to cut bait rather than carry a zero.

3 = Quentin Johnston, Chargers Johnston continues to run empty perimeter routes without generating target volume or red-zone looks, making him one of the most consensus drops among fringe receivers.

Tight Ends

1 = Tyler Higbee, Rams Higbee saw his snap share and target tree crater in Week 6 as the Rams pivoted to multi-receiver sets and rookie Konata Mumpfield, triggering an immediate drop-off from fantasy benches.

2 = Mark Andrews, Ravens Andrews has become primarily an inline pass-protector and run-blocker in Baltimore, failing to produce meaningful weekly target volume and leading managers to stream higher-upside alternatives.

3 = Dalton Schultz, Texans With Marvin Harrison Jr. taking over focal target share and Houston leaning on Jaylin Noel and their wideouts, Schultz has seen his weekly floor evaporate entirely.

Defense/Special Teams (DST)

1 = Buffalo Bills (Bye Week) Rostered in a majority of leagues, but with Buffalo entering their Week 7 bye, managers in standard 10- and 12-team leagues without deep benches routinely dumped them to the wire to stream active units like Cleveland or the Jets.

2 = New England Patriots (Away at Chicago Bears) Streamed heavily in Week 6 for their divisional home game against the Jets, managers immediately churned New England off rosters ahead of a short-week Thursday Night Football road matchup at Soldier Field against a surging Bears offense.

3 = Dallas Cowboys (Away at Philadelphia Eagles) After surrendering 23 points to Green Bay at Lambeau in Week 6 and demoting defensive play-calling duties, fantasy managers abandoned Dallas off benches ahead of a hostile Monday Night Football divisional road test in Philadelphia.

Placekickers (PK)

1 = Tyler Bass, Bills (Bye Week) With Buffalo on bye in Week 7, managers across standard redraft leagues cut Bass loose to stream active legs rather than burning a bench spot on a specialist.

2 = Cameron Dicker, Chargers (Bye Week) The Chargers are also on their Week 7 bye, triggering an immediate wave of drops from managers churning the kicker position to free up an active roster spot.

3 = Jason Sanders, Jets (Home vs. Miami Dolphins) Despite playing at MetLife Stadium this week, the Jets' lingering offensive stagnation and poor red-zone drive efficiency have severely capped Sanders' fantasy floor, prompting managers to pivot to high-volume options like Chris Boswell or Chase McLaughlin.

-- HEADLINE: Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring) and Ben Brown (knee) are unlikely to play on Thursday night.

The Patriots are slowly/quickly moving into ‘the zone’...the zone where their team is knocked off the tracks for the season due to mass injuries. The last couple weeks have been rough.

The positive thing about it is, for the game tonight...the Bears may have a worse injury list, mostly on defense.

-- ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Terrance Ferguson (ankle) “will take some time” to come off injured reserve.

-- Eagles signed RB Eljiah Mitchell to their practice squad.

-- Rams signed K Brandon McManus to their practice squad.

-- Cowboys signed Kyle Trask to their practice squad.

-- Packers OC Adam Stenavich said Josh Jacobs “will help for sure” and that he “looks great.”

-- @AaronWilson_NFL: Dolphins workout went excellently today for five-time All-Pro #Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, hitting field goals from 68 yards along with 65 yards, two 60-yarders, two 55-yarders, went 11 for 12, made all of his 50-plus kicks. Team wound up signing Zane Gonzalez, who was drafted by #Browns when special teams coach Chris Tabor was in Cleveland.

 -- Giants released Najee Harris.

The move comes a couple days after Harris criticized the New York coaching staff for its handling of the backfield touch distribution. “It’s hard to get into a rhythm with one or two plays...if you’re getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you could do,” Harris said after the Giants’ Week 6 loss to the Saints. “I’ve never been through none of this before.”

-- Dolphins signed Zane Gonzalez, formerly of the Falcons.

-- Ravens signed Jake Moody to the team’s practice squad.

-- Zachariah Branch talks about Bijan & Drake coming to uplift and pray for him on the sideline after fumbling twice

“I very much respect him [Bijan] and appreciate him for that cause he didn’t have to do that… they’re telling me we know what you’re capable of, don’t dwell on it too much”

-- Jordan Raanan says people within the Giants organization told him: "Yeah, we had this offense designed for Jaxson [Dart]. ... We basically had to scrap a lot of it." He adds that, because of JJ McCarthy's skillset, they can then "bring back that offense." Something they can't do with Jameis Winston, based on Winston's skillset.

-- @AngryNFLInsider: The Giants have called the Colts about Jonathan Taylor, but the price is steep. No first-round pick is needed but Indy wanting multiple picks. Harbaugh is a big fan, and NYG is willing to move draft capital but so are other teams. Josh Downs has also been discussed for NYG

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

MNF First Reactions

-- Dan Quinn should be fired immediately in order to save the season, if it can even be saved. Their division is so bad that they still have a chance to win it. If Quinn doesn't go, then David Blough should. Their offense makes little sense given all the offensive line issues they have. In the end, there probably really is no saving this team... but could some kind of change spark something? Who knows. Grasping at straws, I guess.

-- Jayden Daniels is very talented, but he is cementing himself as the lowest-IQ quarterback in the NFL. One mega-mental mistake can be forgiven, but he is making so many little (and big) mental errors that get put on full display in a standalone night game like this. His management of the final two drives blew a golden opportunity to win this game.

Fourth-and-3 from 20-plus yards out, down six with two minutes left... and you go deep for the win? Even if Treylon Burks held on for a miracle TD catch, there still would’ve been two minutes left for San Francisco to move into field goal position. Rachaad White leaked wide open out of the backfield behind Daniels, but JD, for God only knows what reason, decided to go with a deep-ball prayer into coverage instead and completely ignored him. Had he gone to White, it would’ve been an easy first down with the clock running, San Francisco burning timeouts, and four more downs to get into the end zone. Instead, it was no read, locked-on tunnel vision all the way, throwing a Hail Mary to Burks. Surprise... it didn’t work.

The Commanders are 0-7-1 in Jayden Daniels' last 8 starts.

-- If Terry McLaurin is going to be down for a long time, I commented in the Discord club chat during the game that should the Commanders win, they would need a wide receiver who plays like McLaurin to come in. A wide receiver who is buddies with Jayden Daniels is apparently a thing, so it would be a logical landing spot for Brian Thomas Jr. But losing here may keep them from making that kind of investment.

Meanwhile, Brandon Aiyuk is still out there.

-- The 49ers added stupidity of their own... They could have easily won this game without Mike Evans. Why risk the one reason you might win a Super Bowl? Because of the pure domination of the true Magic Mike. Putting him out there when you knew he was banged up was reckless. They could have given him extra rest for Atlanta in Week 7, letting him get through to the Week 8 bye if needed. Instead, he’s pushed out there trying to make plays with a three-score lead in the first half.

-- For all the negativity on the Commanders, you have to give them credit for getting embarrassed in the first half, coming out in the second half, shutting the 49ers down, and almost—should have—coming back to win this game. This Washington team has a little something, but the sheer stupidity of their quarterback and their head coach has already cost them between one and two wins this season.

-- HEADLINES: The Rams placed DL Kobie Turner (groin) on injured reserve.

The Rams placed DT Poona Ford (triceps) on injured reserve.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said Davante Adams (hamstring) will miss 6–10 weeks with a ruptured tendon.

The Rams placed K Blake Grupe (knee/ACL) on injured reserve.

Injuries are hitting teams like the plague each week, and you never know which roster is next in line.

The Carolina Panthers got crushed by injuries over the first three weeks of the season and somehow kept getting better. If Carolina were at full strength, you could make a real case that they’re the best team in the NFL right now.

The LA Chargers got stung...losing most their O-Line and their WR group and Derwin James. Yet Mike McDaniel is fit as a fiddle.

Then the Philadelphia Eagles got ravaged the past two weeks, and now their season is effectively over.

This week, it’s the Los Angeles Rams getting dismantled piece by piece. They’ve lost a massive chunk of their interior defensive line—a devastating blow to the front—and Myles Garrett is still nowhere in sight to help bail them out.

How do they replace Davante Adams? A few initial reactions:

1: If this turns into an extended 10-plus week absence—which feels like the safer bet—the Rams almost have to look outside the building. When you’ve assembled a roster built to win right now, you can’t lean entirely on inexperienced wideouts in high-stakes games; they simply won't pull defensive coverage away from Puka Nacua. A few possibilities:

This could be where Brian Thomas Jr. ultimately lands.

A meeting could be set to explore adding Tyreek Hill.

Kayshon Boutte could be another name to consider in desperation/cheap.

2: Next man up internally: Konata Mumpfield is the immediate in-house fill-in to absorb perimeter snaps.

3: Heavy tight end sets: Expect more 12, 13, and 14 personnel packages. Terrance Ferguson has to step up and become a legitimate weapon right now—no more ramping up slowly. He won’t post Adams-level production on his own, but between Ferguson and Mumpfield, they can try to replace Davante Adams in the aggregate.

Meanwhile, Brandon Aiyuk is still sitting out there.

-- HEADLINE: Giants coach John Harbaugh said they’re “working through that now” when asked which quarterback would start against the Texans in Week 7.

If they knew that they were going to back Jameis Winston because they wanted to be deferential to the locker room leader and veteran going to Houston this week then they probably would have already said so. The fact that it's being painted as a decision going through a process means, to me, that they're gonna do what they've wanted to do ever since they've made the trade--and that's start JJ McCarthy.

I guess it's to some advantage that they keep the Texans guessing and having to prepare for both quarterbacks, but I don't even know if that's a thing or if that's just a thing football coaches or analysts talk about like it's some big deal. Like oh man we prepared for Jameis Winston all week and then it was JJ McCarthy and we didn't even know what to do. It's so stupid.

My guess is it's gonna be JJ McCarthy.

-- This is sad, but I 100% know what this man is going through. He was just trying to help, for free. We lost a great resource here.

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

-- First reactions to Sunday...

I was bracing myself for bad results across the land, seeing so many ‘W’-players down in scoring this week (they all seem to crush or misfire together for some reason so far this season), but I am seeing surprising early win-rate % results...like shocking.

But then when I started looking over the scoring tallies by player, by position group...I see that scoring was down in general because Detroit and Cincinnati were off the board this week...and scoring was down across the board in the NFL...and scoring was down in fantasy especially when you consider a lot of the top 10 scorers at a position are guys hardly anyone even uses—they're either buried deep on a bench or buried deep on waivers.

QB: No single quarterback just absolutely crushed. And I'd say three (Shough, Stroud, Penix) of the top five scoring QBs for the week were hardly in anyone's lineup...ours or theirs. FFMers by and large went with Caleb Williams (#13 at QB scoring this week), Bryce Young (#7), and a desperation move to Kirk Cousins (#8). The only dud was anyone forced to use Jameis Winston in time for his downfall... When you dance with the devil/Jameis, you get two great weeks followed by a complete and utter collapse.

RB: At running back, a lot of the typical stars were stars, but no single running back scored way off the charts. A good number of people were forced into Dameon Pierce, and as an example of how weird the scoring was this week: he had an okay week but ended up finishing #9 among running backs in PPR scoring.

WR: At wide receiver, none of our Ws even sniffed WR1, which—had one or two of them done so—might have made this an off-the-charts week because no single FF/NFL wide receiver utterly destroyed (in the good way) the FF-scoring this week either. The real differentiator was that I see many of our tracking teams used one or two certain names this week because of byes or preference over Michael Wilson: there was a lot of Germie Bernard and/or Tre Tucker pushed into lineups, and they finished #2–3 at WR this week and saved a lot of people’s week.

TE: It was a mixed bag at tight end, with a lot of guys finishing in the overall top 10 who usually never even sniff a starting lineup. Some started Colston Loveland out of attrition, which turned out to be a great time for him to have his best week of the season. There's a strong Isaiah Likely contingent in FFM, and he took the #1 spot for the week. At the same time, Trey McBride was way down, as was Brock Bowers, which hurt some of us but also spared some of us who were facing them.

PK: The one constant on teams that lost this week...Brandon Aubrey. He's not getting any opportunities like he used to because for the last couple weeks Dallas has been getting rocked, playing from behind, and eschewing field goals looking for touchdowns. What to do with him now...we'll be discussing today and tomorrow.

Looking at the top five defenses of the week, four are units no one really uses, plus Kansas City...which was the majority defense started by FFMers this week. That was a perfectly timed boost.

Even though there is an abnormally high amount of matchups already settled where MNF doesn’t really matter, there are fantasy games still to be decided on Monday Night Football. Rachaad White and Brock Purdy are owned by a lot of FFMers. And in the matchups still up for grabs, most FFMers are fighting CMC, Mike Evans, and/or George Kittle. If these final game results break our way, the win rate for the week across FFM land could go from very good to great.

Good luck to those who have matchups on the line tonight.

FFM Private Discord group (access if you are a Betting subscriber)...we’ll see you there in the Monday Night open chat area.

-- MNF Note: 49ers insider Matt Maiocco reports Mike Evans is likely to suit up, AND Christian Kirk is expected to be activated from IR before kickoff. If Evans does sit, expect Kittle and Brandon Cooks to see a big workload.

-- My top 10 NFL teams after watching all of Week 6 (except MNF):

1) SF

2) KC

3) JAX (Trevor Lawrence is holding them back from #1)

4) CAR

5) CHI (at their best, they’re better than any team I watch each week...but then they’re not always at their best. In games with Caleb playing, they are 2-1 but could’ve/would’ve been 3-0).

-------------------- (dividing line on the upper tier)

6) BUF

7) SEA

8) CIN

9) HOU

10) MIN

Others considered: DEN, NE, ATL, LAR

LB Nolan Smith, PHI = Knocked out in the first half against Carolina after suffering a concussion.

DT Jordan Davis, PHI = Left the game with an ankle injury and was ruled out, leaving Philadelphia's interior defensive front thin.
