 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

Early Injury News...

-- Ladd McConkey likely OUT today. Game on Tre Harris...and Gadsden?

-- Jefferson and Addison are Game-Time-Decisions...will work out pre-game.

-- Terry McLaurin also GTD but leaning towards playing.

-- Zay Flowers expected to play.

-- Alvin Kamara expected to play.

-- Ashton Jeanty still ‘up in the air’...wet field...it’s not looking great.

-- Our current weather reports from the hurricane affected games:

(BAD but improving hourly) Giants at Commanders: Front-loaded tropical soaking rain in suburban Maryland. Heavy morning rain leaves the Bermuda grass saturated prior to kickoff. Rain probability sits at 70% at kickoff and 52% in Q2 with light rain and drizzle, before the primary moisture plume shifts northeast, dropping second-half rain chances to under 15%. Temperatures hold at 65°F to 66°F under 96% humidity. Sustained east winds blow at 11 to 12 mph early with gusts to 16 mph, easing late. Saturated sod will chew up between the hashes, causing edge-rush footing slips and heavy ball-handling slickness early.

(Getting to be OK) Colts at Steelers: Cool, crisp autumn day along the Three Rivers. Temperatures hover in the upper 50s to near 60°F under partly cloudy skies. A light westerly breeze blows at 6 to 8 mph with peak gusts around 12 mph, creating negligible flight drag on intermediate or deep passing concepts. Firm and dry natural sod footing with rain chances staying below 10%.

(This is the bad one) Browns at Jets: Severe high-impact tropical rain event in the Meadowlands. Deep tropical moisture surging northward locks in continuous moderate-to-heavy rainfall throughout the game. Precipitation probabilities escalate from 91% at kickoff to 98%–99% through Q2, Q3, and Q4, with total game accumulations reaching 0.45 to 0.60 inches. Temperatures stay chilled at 58°F under 92% to 94% humidity. East winds blow steadily at 11 to 12 mph with gusts reaching 16 to 18 mph. Saturated synthetic turf will cause severe traction slickness, heavy ball handling vulnerability, and degraded passing conditions.

(Starts OK then rainy finish?) Raiders at Patriots: Significant coastal weather system in southeastern Massachusetts. Overcast and raw early with light rain starting around kickoff (30% to 45% chance) before the heavier tropical moisture shield arrives late in the second half, pushing rain probabilities to 70% in Q4. East-southeast winds blow at 10 to 13 mph with gusts reaching 18 to 22 mph through the open end zones. Saturated synthetic turf will create slick footing and test ball security as precipitation deepens.

 -- MHJ Trade Rumors?

My reaction: Could hardly care less.

The issue still evades the entirety of football analysis--the guy sucks. He wasn’t being held back in Arizona and now he can go flourish. His lack of talent brought him to this place. It was a con job on the NFL scouting, which is about the easiest thing to con in all of the sport.

My quick thoughts...

1) Wherever he goes IT’S A PROBLEM for them. Because the new team will spend several weeks doing what Arizona did for a couple of years--and that's try to force everything to them to get him going to justify the investment. For example: if he goes to Houston then Nico Collins is going to pay the price. CJ Stroud is going to drop because he's going to force everything to his friend and it's not good.

2) Why would the Texans trade for MHJ when they have Jayden Higgins who's exponentially more talented than Marvin Harrison Jr. will ever be in his entire life? Help for this year? Help for what? The Texans are as bad as MHJ!

3) This has no impact on Trey McBride or Michael Wilson. The only player affected is Kendrick Bourne starts to get more targets that he deserves. MHJ left behind 1.2 catches in 3.3 targets per game. There's not this ton of activity that now gets spread around to everyone.

4) Everyone in fantasy analysis is quickly going back to when Michael Wilson was without MHJ in 2025 and noticing his numbers and breathlessly saying this could be like that now that MHJ is gone! Dudes, that's already been happening for the past two weeks. MHJ was already a ghost on this offense.

5) I think the Colts, Patriots, and Texans are the three teams in this ‘race’ to destroy their own teams here with this trade. Not the Raiders...but it’s not 0% chance in LV.

1) SF

2) SEA

3) JAX

4) CHI

5) KC

6) LAR

7) CAR

8) LV

9) CIN

10) BUF

 -- Caleb Williams: https://x.com/CourtneyRCronin/status/2108634248416727126?s=20

-- @RapSheet: Vikings WRs Jordan Addison (hamstring) and Justin Jefferson (ankle) are both questionable and will work out pregame to determine their status. Jefferson has said he will do whatever he can to play in a Louisiana homecoming game.

-- @AdamSchefter: There are doctors around the NFL who believe it's a matter of when, not if, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels hurts his left elbow again.

-- Terry McLaurin is a true game-time decision. Even if he does play today, expect his snaps to be limited. Dan Quinn said the wet field and rainy conditions won’t be a factor in the decision. https://x.com/MikeGarafolo/status/2109241923990925413?s=20

 == QUOTES & QUOTABLES ==

-- Browns will attempt to re-sign QB Deshaun Watson to an extension if he leads the team to the playoffs per @MaryKayCabot.

Per Cabot, Watson would be interested in re-signing as he has a good relationship with CLE ownership/front office/teammates

-- @FarabaughFB: Aaron Rodgers had an extensive quiz this week for Germie Bernard. Bernard said he asked about coverages in each situation the Colts like to run by down and distance and area of the field, their players and what their tendencies are by personnel grouping, how to run specific routes vs. different coverages, hand signals, and much more.

It sounds like Bernard passed those tests from Rodgers will flying colors. QBs coach Tom Arth says it's not common for a rookie to earn that trust, but that has come along between Bernard and Rodgers.

"The QBs came into one of our meetings this week and were just going on and on about how Germ knows the plan. They said he could call the plays just like a quarterback would."

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

-- HEADLINE: Caleb Williams (hamstring) is questionable to play in Week 5 against the Packers.

Likely not playing but getting closer. Week 6 in range...but may be Week 7 still.

-- Weather Report: The weather projection keeps changing up and down the east coast due to the Hurricane. We won’t know the best impact to FF until Sunday mornings, I suspect.

The LV at NE and CIN at MIA games are improving their outlooks.

CLE at NYJ currently the worst projection?

https://x.com/Fantasy4Casts/status/2108721099655483428?s=20

-- HEADLINE Chargers placed Rashawn Slater (ankle) on injured reserve.

The devastation taking place with the Chargers is mind-bending. They have to be classified as the single worst team in the NFL...from the tape and now the excessive injuries. Slater on IR is the final death blow, if it hasn’t happened already.

-- HEADLINE: Eagles released Andy Dalton.

The Eagles are making moves this week. Is it to ‘fold’? Maybe. I think it’s pre-fold. They will likely take this up to the trade deadline and see where they are at in a very weak NFC East.

I don’t think Jalen hurts will be traded at the deadline, as social media is trying to make happen. But I do think it’s on the table for 2027 offseason. I think both sides yhave had enough of each other.

-- HEADLINE: Vikings LT Christian Darrisaw (concussion) will not play in Minnesota’s Week 5 game against the Saints.

The injuries are also mounting for Minnesota now too. This is a big one added to all the others and potential others.

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

 TNF First Reactions...

-- I liked the bet of TB +9.5 or anything in that range because I thought Jalon Daniels would be fine/not hurtful per our preseason and last week’s debut tape scouting...and that the Bucs were desperate...but mostly that I didn’t have any confidence in the Cowboys. But even I didn’t think the Bucs would go to Dallas and manhandle them. Even though they got some good INT bounces of the ball, Tampa was the one in control all night.

-- Why it’s always too early to panic (or celebrate) in FF through 4 weeks...

Did you play Dak and/or CeeDee last week (combined 59 PPR pts) or this week (combined 18 PPR pts)?

It takes a few weeks for ‘schedule things’  to flush out and things to revert back to ‘means’. The difference between (3-1) and (1-3) FF teams going into this week was very likely schedule tilts/bad luck. They tend to reverse (good or bad) ahead and the bye weeks is where we have roster depth/knowledge on our side for the next 5-6 weeks.

Bucky Irving (who we/FFM all have a lot of on average) entered the game RB#23. He will now likely end this week RB12-14 on the season.

Did you use or face George Pickens Weeks 1-2-3-4....6-10-15-10 PPR pts, or did you face him Week 5 (28pts)?

-- TB defense had one of the top 5-7 pass defense metrics in our system going into this game...and they held down the high-flying Dallas pass game as well as anyone has this season. When Lamb was healthy in-game or not.

-- Big win for...my bet on NYG and WSH to win the NFC East. One of them (I hope) is gonna pay and cover both bets with a profit. This week: NYG at Washington. If Washington wins and Philly loses this week...NYG leads the division at (3-2) and everyone else is (2-3).

-- If ATL loses this week (and they won’t, but...), then TB is one game out first place after an (0-4) start with a lot of weeks left. It’s not over for your slow start, bad luck, injury wracked FF teams. Keep playing the game.

Let the others fall/panic.

== INJURY CENTER/WARD ==

-- ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Kyle Monangai has a turf toe injury, “placing uncertainty around his availability over the next 1-2 weeks.”

-- Ladd McConkey (foot) did not practice on Thursday.

-- Mack Hollins (calf) did not practice on Thursday.

-- Rhamondre Stevenson (knee) was limited on Thursday.

-- DeVonta Smith (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday.

-- Carnell Tate (back) was added to the injury report on Thursday.

-- (NBC) Chris Olave (foot) was added to the injury report on Thursday.

It is tough to say when exactly the injury happened. This is bizarre. Olave took a hard hit to the lower body late in Week 4 and subbed himself out for the team’s final possession. He did not practice on Wednesday. The team listed it as a rest day, and New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill reported that coach Kellen Moore clarified three times that Olave’s Wednesday absence was not injury-related.

-- Chris Brooks (ankle) did not practice on Thursday.

-- Stefon Diggs (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday.

-- Vikings LT Christian Darrisaw (concussion) was not seen practicing on Thursday.

-- Alvin Kamara (back) was spotted at practice on Thursday.

 -- @DrJesseMorse...

Predictions for Week 5:

Ja’Marr Chase - yes

Tee Higgins - no

Justin Jefferson - yes

Lamar Jackson - no

Jayden Daniels - yes

Saquon Barkley - no

DeVonta Smith - no

Malik Nabers - yes

Breece Hall - no

Cam Skattebo - yes (limited)

D’Andre Swift - yes

Kyle Monangai - yes

Ladd McConkey - GTD (should sit)

 == QUOTES & QUOTABLES ==

-- Justin Herbert on Mike McDaniel: "I think he's the best. I learned so much from him and just want to do everything I can to make him proud and play good football for him."

RC NOTE: I mean...there’s no reason to stick by Justin Herbert. This is ludicrous.

-- O. Hampton remains the starter, while McDaniel views all three backs as viable for carries

Mike McDaniel: “We see our running back room as a strength of the team. Now, depending on how the game plays out, I've had plenty of times where you're involving all three on a game day and they can be equal carries. It's all within our planning process on things that people are good at that we're trying to give people opportunities. It just so happened that the first play of the game happened to be a play that I felt Kimani really did a good job on during the week. And so that was his pass play. But I still see O as the starter, but I see the running back room as a strength. And each week you're trying to assess how you give the guys the most empowerment to play their best. We'd felt really good about what O was doing on a couple types of schemes, trying to give him confidence as we knew he was going to be mindful to protect the ball. But each week, I think it's an advantage to the Chargers with defenses having to prepare three different tackling plans for backs with various skill sets.”

-- @esidery: There’s now a strong belief Carson Beck will soon become the Cardinals’ starting quarterback.

If Arizona is unable to secure a win in October with Jacoby Brissett, Beck likely gets the QB1 nod.

Arizona wants to get a good look at Beck before they land another top pick in 2027.

-- @AllbrightNFL: What I will say since I’ve got a little bit of a chip on the shoulder right now about getting some bad info…I’ll give you guys some correct info...

Sean Payton has been heavily involved in everything with the offense so far, including some of the playcalling the last two weeks.

It was not Davis Webb‘s playbook. It was Sean Payton‘s playbook. There were suggestions made to expand the playbook by about a dozen plays during this off-season before Broncos rookie mini camp, and those were turned down by the head coach.

Sean Payton has been heavily involved in the script, what plays would go on the sheet and what situational calls would be made.

Despite the myth surrounding it, it was not Sean Payton’s idea to give up play-calling in the first place nor was he happy about it.

-- Ben Johnson’s mentality for the Bears is INSANE:

"We want to control the clock. We want to physically dominate. We want to score a lot of points. We want to impose our will to a point where we ruin the other team's season. Where they lose to us and they lose the next couple games and then they've got guys falling by the wayside."

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

-- HEADLINE: Ravens acquired Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

This is interesting.

Cam Jurgens used to be a Pro Bowl Center a few years ago. But the past two seasons he's really collapsed as a blocker/player...we think due to chronic nerve and disc issues with his back. He was moved to left guard when Landon Dickerson got hurt because he was killing them as a center, and Philly had a better option emerging at center to join the OL starters. Jurgens flopped even harder at Left Guard, so he became an expendable asset that the Eagles leveraged and sold high on to a desperate Ravens team--you rarely see these type of deals where a team is pulling value out of a player by trading them before a total collapse and selling it off to a desperate team, but here we are. A great exchange for a dying player. I'm not sure what the Ravens were thinking. Maybe they will reject this trade as well, on physical check grounds, like they did in the Maxx Crosby trade.

The Ravens might be thinking the classic, “we can fix him.” Good luck with that thought. They're taking on a broken offensive lineman for two straight seasons and taking on some extra payroll to do it.

I see this trade being paraded around as the Eagles are only to dump out on their team and start rebuilding for the future. Why would they do that right now? Even a downgraded Eagles offensive line may not be that huge of a hindrance to them winning be very bad NFC East. The Eagles still have the best quarterback in the division. They supposedly have the best defense in the division. After this week, if/when they lose, it very well could be that they are still just a game out of first place.

I don't think they did this because they're dumping on the season, I think they just gotta sucker on the line and hook line and sinker them in on Jurgens. It gives the Eagles some draft pick assets to work with to maybe try to fix this offensive line and go forward to win this division. The Eagles have flaws but so does every team in the NFC East, and so does every team in the NFL. It's way too soon for the Eagles to be thinking about dumping out. The Tennessee Titans can think about that. Maybe a few other teams can start thinking about it. But there's no reason for the Eagles to be thinking about that yet.

If Saquon and Devonta are long-term issues, then in a few weeks at the trade deadline perhaps moves can be made...but not yet, not now.

-- HEADLINE: Vikings signed Odell Beckham Jr., formerly of the Giants.

Here’s why this may be important, two things...

1) I think it’s a signal that Justin Jefferson may be a real issue with his injury, but also Jordan Addison may be down as well...maybe for a week...but maybe for longer?

2) Of all the lower-level WR talent available out there, whether on a practice squad or a low-level trade--this is the best the Vikings could come up with? How is it that the Vikings are operating with Kyler Murray and Odell Beckham? What has happened to this franchise?

But really the main takeaway--watch the Jefferson and Addison injury reports, and especially if you’re counting on Jefferson be prepared/brace yourself for a lingering, longer-term issue. Maybe he fights through it but in the era of mass injuries...this is one to worry about. Signing OBJ is a signal of some worry...for either Jefferson, Addison, or both.

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

-- Free Agent/Waiver Analysis from last night...

Here is the verified Week 5 waiver wire report based on the overnight transaction processing and FAAB bidding results...with my AI writer’s commentary. My only comments are on the #1 FAAB add from our data (to clarify it).

Top 5 Adds by Position (Week 5 Waivers)

Quarterbacks

1 = Kirk Cousins, Raiders (+21% Net Add Rate)

2 = Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals (+18% Net Add Rate)

3 = Tyson Bagent, Bears (+14% Net Add Rate)

4 = C.J. Stroud, Texans (+11% Net Add Rate)

5 = Michael Penix Jr., Falcons (+9% Net Add Rate)

Running Backs

1 = Will Shipley, Eagles (+48% Net Add Rate)

2 = Jordan Mason, Vikings (+41% Net Add Rate)

3 = Emanuel Wilson, Seahawks (+33% Net Add Rate)

4 = Jaylen Wright, Dolphins (+27% Net Add Rate)

5 = Tyler Goodson, Cowboys (+19% Net Add Rate)

Wide Receivers

1 = Dohnte Meyers, Bengals (+44% Net Add Rate)

2 = Keon Coleman, Bills (+38% Net Add Rate)

3 = Tyreek Hill, Free Agent (+29% Net Add Rate)

4 = Tre' Harris, Chargers (+22% Net Add Rate)

5 = Jalen Royals, Chiefs (+17% Net Add Rate)

Tight Ends

1 = Mike Gesicki, Bengals (+31% Net Add Rate)

2 = Brenton Strange, Jaguars (+24% Net Add Rate)

3 = Tyler Higbee, Rams (+19% Net Add Rate)

4 = T.J. Hockenson, Vikings (+15% Net Add Rate)

5 = Hunter Henry, Patriots (+11% Net Add Rate)

Defense/Special Teams (DST)

1 = Cincinnati Bengals (+22% Net Add Rate) - (Away at Miami Dolphins)

The Bengals are the consensus number-one defensive add across platforms this week. Miami’s offense has collapsed following the season-ending injury to De'Von Achane, surrendering an NFL-high 9.6% sack rate and failing to score more than 13 points in any game this year.

2 = Chicago Bears (+16% Net Add Rate) - (Away at Green Bay Packers)

Chicago is rostered in under 40% of leagues but is being added aggressively. Over their last three games, the Bears have allowed just 28 total points while piling up eight sacks and three takeaways, giving them strong multi-week appeal.

3 = Jacksonville Jaguars (+13% Net Add Rate) - (Home vs. Philadelphia Eagles in London)

Jacksonville leads the NFL with six interceptions and draws a hobbled, mistake-prone Eagles offense that has struggled to protect the football and suffered severe injuries to its skill positions.

4 = Cleveland Browns (+10% Net Add Rate) - (Away at New York Jets)

The Browns have recorded at least three sacks and an interception in each of their last three games. They draw an ideal streaming script against a Jets offense averaging under 20 points per game and yielding the fifth-highest sack rate in the league.

5 = Minnesota Vikings (+8% Net Add Rate) - (Away at New Orleans Saints)

Brian Flores' unit remains one of the highest-floor fantasy defenses in football, continuing to see steady waiver wire pickups against a Saints team dealing with heavy turnover issues.

Placekickers (PK)

1 = Cairo Santos, Bears (+14% Net Add Rate) Santos is the most added kicker this week. The Bears' offense has moved the ball well over the past two weeks, and he offers an incredibly safe floor heading into a high-scoring divisional matchup with Green Bay.

2 = Tyler Bass, Bills (+11% Net Add Rate) Bass is seeing heavy additions this week. The Bills are averaging over 30 points a game, and Bass gets a perfect, weather-proof indoor setup at SoFi Stadium against the Rams for Monday Night Football.

3 = Matt Gay, Raiders (+9% Net Add Rate) Gay is a major streaming target this week. The Raiders' offense has looked revitalized, and Gay is a perfect 10-for-10 on field goals this year. He draws an elite high-floor matchup against the Patriots.

4 = Chris Boswell, Steelers (+7% Net Add Rate) Boswell is being added by managers looking for multi-kick upside. The Steelers' offense frequently stalls in opponent territory, offering Boswell plenty of long-range field goal opportunities as they head into a matchup with the Cowboys.

5 = Andre Szmyt, Browns (+5% Net Add Rate) Cleveland's offense consistently moves into opposition territory but frequently stalls against stingy defenses, leading to field goal tries. Traveling to MetLife Stadium to face the Jets, Szmyt is locked into a low-scoring field-position game script with high multi-kick potential.

Top 20 by FAAB % Spend (Week 5 Waivers)

1 = Jordan Mason, Vikings (28% Avg FAAB Spend) *Available in approx. 20-30% of leagues, but I’m keeping on here just because it was the data I got back.

2 = Will Shipley, Eagles (22% Avg FAAB Spend)

3 = Keon Coleman, Bills (21% Avg FAAB Spend)

4 = Emanuel Wilson, Seahawks (16% Avg FAAB Spend)

5 = Dohnte Meyers, Bengals (15% Avg FAAB Spend)

6 = Khalil Shakir, Bills (14% Avg FAAB Spend)

7 = Tyreek Hill, Free Agent (11% Avg FAAB Spend)

8 = Jaylen Wright, Dolphins (10% Avg FAAB Spend)

9 = Tyler Goodson, Cowboys (9% Avg FAAB Spend)

10 = Tre' Harris, Chargers (8% Avg FAAB Spend)

11 = Jalen Royals, Chiefs (8% Avg FAAB Spend)

12 = Mike Gesicki, Bengals (7% Avg FAAB Spend)

13 = Kirk Cousins, Raiders (7% Avg FAAB Spend)

14 = Brenton Strange, Jaguars (6% Avg FAAB Spend)

15 = Tyler Allgeier, Cardinals (6% Avg FAAB Spend)

16 = Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals (5% Avg FAAB Spend)

17 = Keaton Mitchell, Chargers (5% Avg FAAB Spend)

18 = Makai Lemon, Eagles (4% Avg FAAB Spend)

19 = Tyson Bagent, Bears (4% Avg FAAB Spend)

20 = Cincinnati Bengals DST (3% Avg FAAB Spend)

Top 3 Most Dropped by Position (Week 5 Waivers)

Quarterbacks

1 = Kyler Murray, Vikings - Despite the Vikings' 4-0 record, Murray is doing the bare minimum for fantasy. He is averaging just 207.5 passing yards with a single touchdown over his two full games, and his rushing upside has evaporated with only 42 yards on the season.

2 = Daniel Jones, Colts - Jones hasn't topped 14.5 fantasy points in a single game this year, even failing to capitalize on a plus matchup against the Commanders in London last week.

3 = Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns - Showing up on standard cut lists as a highly-dropped player due to a lack of overall passing upside and poor weekly scoring.

Running Backs

1 = J.K. Dobbins, Broncos - The Denver backfield is an unpredictable three-way split between Dobbins, Harvey, and Coleman. The offense simply doesn't run the ball enough to support any of them for fantasy purposes, making Dobbins an easy cut.

2 = Jadarian Price, Seahawks - Facing a decision on who to cut, managers are heavily dropping Price because he is simply not seeing the field or getting the playing time to justify a roster spot right now.

3 = Kendre Miller, Saints - With extremely low roster percentages and almost no actionable volume, managers are using his spot to take swings on stashes with clearer paths to playing time.

Wide Receivers

1 = Michael Pittman Jr., Steelers - Fantasy managers are finally letting go of Pittman after another frustrating week. The name value is no longer enough to save him from the waiver wire in standard leagues.

2 = Chris Godwin, Buccaneers - Godwin has averaged fewer than four targets per game over his last three outings in a lackluster Tampa Bay offense. Unless you are in a 14-team league, there is no reason to hold onto a low-ceiling floor play.

3 = Jauan Jennings, Vikings - Jennings did not become the beneficiary of Justin Jefferson's injury as many had hoped. He drew only a single target last week and has just four targets on the entire season in a struggling passing attack.

Tight Ends

1 = Dalton Schultz, Texans - Even in a shootout last week, Schultz only drew two targets. With Nico Collins healthy and the focal point of the offense, Schultz's volume is far too low to trust for fantasy.

2 = Darren Waller, Panthers - Waller has become a popular drop candidate this week as fantasy managers pivot entirely away from the Carolina passing attack and look for hotter streaming options.

3 = Kyle Pitts Sr., Falcons - Managers who drafted Pitts are finally throwing in the towel, cutting their losses, and heading to the waiver wire after another week of empty production.

Defense/Special Teams (DST)

1 = Carolina Panthers (Bye Week) The Panthers are currently the most dropped defense across leagues as managers clear roster spots rather than hold a struggling unit through their Week 5 bye.

2 = San Francisco 49ers (Away at Seattle Seahawks) Despite high draft capital, managers are cutting ties with the 49ers' defense after an underwhelming first month, opting to stream better weekly matchups instead.

3 = Philadelphia Eagles (Neutral vs. Jacksonville Jaguars in London) The Eagles are seeing heavy churn as offensive turnover issues and mounting injuries consistently put their defense into disadvantageous field position and negative game scripts.

Placekickers (PK)

1 = Jake Bates, Lions Bates is the most dropped kicker on waiver wires this week as fantasy managers in standard leagues churn through streaming legs or cut him to address early bye-week bench crunches.

2 = Tyler Bass, Bills Bass continues to see steady cuts because Buffalo’s aggressive fourth-down conversion strategy in the red zone severely caps his weekly field-goal volume and floor.

3 = Harrison Butker, Chiefs (Bye Week) With Kansas City on bye in Week 5, managers who refuse to burn a valuable bench spot to stash a kicker are cutting Butker loose to pick up active options.

-- HEADLINE: OT Lane Johnson retired from the NFL after 14 seasons.

...A first ballot HOFer.

...And the 2026 death blow to the Philly Eagles.

...And a probably death blow to solid, consistent Philly FF returns the rest of this season.

Some random info on Lane:

Lane Johnson -- sacks allowed by season (in his 30s)

2020 -- 1

2021 -- 0

2022 -- 0

2023 -- 3

2024 -- 0

2025 -- 0

2026 -- 0

2,485 pass-blocking snaps -- just 4 sacks allowed

0.0016% sack rate allowed in his 30s.

@RyanPaganetti: Since 2013, the Eagles are 122-63-1 when Lane Johnson started and 18-30 when he did not.

Eagles offensive EPA per play in that time frame:

Lane On the field: +0.06

Lane Off the field: -0.05

1) Jeremiyah is in doubt for Week 5.

2) I would not be shocked at all if Love goes on the IR, as well.

Love’s messaging from that interview the other day...it’s a bigger bombshell than is being let on/covered/discussed.

-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Seahawks decided not to sign RB Joe Mixon after he underwent a physical. https://x.com/Underdog/status/2107532552705573218?s=20

I’d throw in the white towel on this one. Hoping he finds a new opportunity after Seattle, obviously in need, ‘passed’ is damning.

You know Seattle signed Robert Henry off the Washington practice squad, but they also just signed UDFA rookie Dontae McMillan to their practice squad.

Seattle’s RB hierarchy right now (among the healthy):

Emanuel Wilson

George Holani (who may be secretly hurt)

Velus Jones (will move up/down the practice squad)

Robert Henry (brought in to complete, but may be little for weeks then sent to the practice squad, unless he pops right away) 2026 debut preseason with 3rd-string offense vs. Miami’s 1st-team defense: https://youtu.be/M4QtUgiV2Rc?si=CHcC8SmFv35eRtZX

Dontae McMillan (Jacardia Wright (put from PS to IR, so McMillan signed to PS)

-- @krisrhim1: Q to Jim Harbaugh after he praised Justin Herbert's "warrior" play that he's been watching for two and a half years: "Part of that is just him taking a ruthless beating because of, I don't know if it's the group in front of him, his protection, what's going on, but when you came here, your charge was to get him protected. Mike's [McDaniel] charge was to make sure he didn't have to be a superhero, but 2.5 years later, like you said, he still has to be a superhero for you guys to have a chance to win the game. Why is that?"

"Yeah, that just sounds more like an insult than it does a question, but if that's the way you look at it. I'm saying that it's the kind of competitor that he is where I've never seen him flinch. I've never seen him rattled. He's an amazing inspiration and that's what we do. We all feed off of that. I know the entire team does. And you ask me what gives me optimism, what gives me hope with this football team, because I see that throughout the entire team. And yeah, we attack, we improve, can't improve everything all at once, but we can improve one thing at a time, all the time. And that's what this team is doing.”

"It wasn't insult. I'm just asking if it's the third season now and he's still among the most pressured and hit quarterbacks. I'm just asking you why that is?"

"I think I answered your question. I can answer it the same way."

"You can answer it the same way, but I don't think you answered it."

"I think I did."

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

MNF First Reactions...

-- So, all the Falcons needed was Michael Penix to be healthy and they’re the best team in football?

-- Beating the hapless Packers and injury-wracked Saints is good by ATL, but I want to see them face a real defense...if there are any left. Two more weeks of injuries and every team in the NFL will have like strike ‘scab’ player levels of talent on our TV screens every week.

The Falcons 2026 is a microcosm of what can happen for FF teams. Terrible QBs to start the season so they got beat bad and looked terrible and their fanbase turned on them. Change at QB, due to injuries, and a good schedule and the fanbase is acting like they’re the best team in football...all in the span of 2 weeks. It can reverse just that fast as well.

We literally have no context or patience or vision or prudence with anything in the USA anymore, especially for football things. Everything is pure emotion and instant reactions.

More on this game in my report this week. I got this one assigned in advanced to me this week.

-- HEADLINE: Seahawks signed RB Joe Mixon, formerly of the Texans and Bengals.

HEADLINE: Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Zach Charbonnet (knee) won’t play in Seattle’s Week 5 game against the 49ers.

HEADLINE: Seahawks signed Robert Henry off the Commanders practice squad.

A lot of activity for Seattle at RB Monday. Something is ‘up’.

Jadarian Price on IR may be worse off than let on.

Zach Charbonnet may get shutdown until the post season...his injury was bad, he’s back so early, it made me scratch my head. But I wouldn’t be surprised that they are worried about Charbs.

George Holani had a rib injury last week maybe he hurt it more Sunday?

Perhaps it’s little faith in Emanuel Wilson leading the backfield.

Joe Mixon may be in for a shocking role for Seattle if Charbs and Price are way worse off.

Getting Robert Henry off the WSH practice squad is brilliant scouting. He has to go to the 53-man roster. Something alarming is happening to the Seattle backfield. We don’t know the full picture yet. Stay tuned.

-- HEADLINE: Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he “would anticipate Tyreek Hill potentially signing with a team over the next few days.”

It’s amazing...no one is talking with Tyreek/his team...then the Chiefs get two WR injuries Sunday and are rumored to be interested in Tyreek...and now everyone is talking to Tyreek.

OR

No one is and Drew Rosenhaus is trying to get something going. And I mean that from: No one know if Tyreek will be ‘ready’ until November or December.

Why wouldn’t the Bills be making huge (relative to his situation) offers in advance, even if just to not have Tyreek go to KC the past few weeks?

-- HEADLINE: Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said LT Paris Johnson will miss the remainder of the season with torn biceps.

Under my theme of: “Every week is a new season”...and we need to look at the current and future 2026 as if it’s a brand-new blank page to interpret and project.

Arizona has now lost it’s top CB, now its top O-Linemen, and Jeremiyah Love is talking like his season is already over, mentally.

I will expand on all this in my NYG-ARI report coming up next from me...TUE or WED morning.

-- HEADLINE: NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Chargers LT Rashawn Slater is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 4’s loss to the Seahawks.

Rashawn Slater "will miss" time with high ankle sprain, per Jim Harbaugh. For the final two drives against Seattle, the Chargers trotted out an offensive line with four rookies -- Travis Burke, Jacob Spomer, Jake Slaughter, Logan Taylor -- to go with veteran Cole Strange.

I’m just going to operate as if the Chargers are totally dead. The team + all the individual players. Let’s look elsewhere for FF assets. Assume if you have a Chargers player on your roster, it is of no use in 2026.

== INJURY CENTER/WARD ==

 -- Kyle Monangai: https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2107191581795389820?s=20

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Kyle Monangai (thumb) is “going to be OK” and that it was a “day to day deal.”

-- Baker Mayfield (thumb) was listed as DNP on Monday’s estimated practice report: Mayfield is expected to miss “anywhere from three to six weeks” with his thumb injury

-- Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said Rico Dowdle is making progress in his attempt to return from a toe injury.

-- NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tank Bigsby will have core muscle surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said he’ll “have more answers Wednesday” on Saquon Barkley’s hamstring injury.

-- Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley said the team is taking it “one day at a time” with Caleb Douglas’ ankle injury.

-- NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyquan Thornton (ankle) will miss 12-16 weeks.

-- Cowboys designated LG Tyler Smith (thumb) for return from injured reserve.

-- Ravens coach Jesse Minter said he didn’t know the chances of Lamar Jackson (ankle) playing in Week 5 yet but said he didn’t think “it’s going to be crazy long-term.”

-- Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Ja’Marr Chase is in concussion protocol.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Tee Higgins (adductor) is day-to-day and that the team is not ruling him out for Cincinnati’s Week 5 game against the Dolphins.

-- ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Broncos CB Patrick Surtain (ankle) is “week-to-week” with one source bracing for him to miss “about two weeks.”

-- Antoine Winfield (ribs) has a fracture and will miss 2-4 weeks.

-- ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained MCL in the Commanders’ Week 4 loss to the Colts.

-- Packers LB Edgerrin Cooper suffered a torn Achilles in Green Bay’s Week 4 win over the Buccaneers.

-- Caleb Williams will not play in Week 5 against the Packers.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Tyson Bagent will start in Week 5 against the Packers.

-- ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Broncos WR Pat Bryant will miss “a few weeks” after suffering a sprained ankle in Week 4’s loss to the 49ers.

-- ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is “weeks away from return.”

 == NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==

First reactions to Sunday...

1) It’s getting to be an overstated thing, but it is THE reality of FF 2026: This injury thing is out of control.

Last week’s (Week 3) injury list was an all-star affair, a ‘who’s who’ of talent. This week’s (Week 4) report is an All-Star team and a Hall of Fame nominees list. The offensive names are shocking enough, but that’s diverting attention away from the defensive injuries and the O-line injuries. It’s an epidemic, and probably the biggest issue of all so far is the number of top/starting CBs going down... which is going to invite teams to start throwing more. The teams that can and will throw are going to be the beneficiaries.

There are too many injuries to even start talking about yet, because it will take me two days to process them, contemplate them, and make projection adjustments from them. Today, I will be doing mostly injury research and backup/adjustment research. I have never had to do that so much in my entire FF professional career as I have this week and last week.

2) Reaction to mass injuries...

What do you do when so many key players keep getting hurt? Seriously, it’s like we have to project the entire season from scratch every single week. There are precious few cohesive situations in the NFL to kind of set your watch by, so to speak—and the ones you can are because they are so bad they just keep being bad. Everything is a five-alarm fire every week.

Fantasy managers who are 4-0 or 3-1 after this week are enjoying things so far. They’ve benefited from a lack of injuries or more injuries hitting their opponents, whether in-game or ahead of the game.

Fantasy managers at 2-2, depending upon how you got there, are nervous but not doomed.

Fantasy managers at 1-3 or 0-4 after this week—especially if they’ve lost two or three in a row—start wanting to give up. They’ve lost so many key players. They acquire a fix, and then the fix gets hurt. Who wants this torture every week? It’s no fun on Sundays especially.

This season, unlike any other I’ve seen at the start, is total chaos. But within the chaos and the mass injuries is one of the best opportunities to play the game ever. Even the worst teams can scuffle, endure, swap, patch, trade, do all the things, get a cheap win due to an opponent's injury here and there, and climb back into the race. You just have to get to the playoffs. That’s your only mission. And that’s very doable this season no matter how far down you are due to injuries, schedules, bad sit-starts, or whatever else.

Fantasy football players, by and large, in my 15+ years of experience, are doomsday-ists and quitters at heart. That’s the urge. They want to blow up Dynasty teams for a rebuild and daydream about getting Jeremiah Smith. In redraft leagues, you start to see league-mates checking out... not worrying about their lineups or waiver wires. One by one, they all start to fold... they want to fold early to punish the season or punish themselves. The same people who would crush their children if they wanted to quit something because it had a "too hard" start will rage against their fantasy team and check out early. We want to punish and see the negative in things. It’s our human 2020s nature.

Here’s what I think: This FF season is not going to go to the best drafter, trader, sit-starter, or current roster. It’s going to be won by something that has nothing to do with football evaluation talent... This season, to the most extreme degree I’ve ever seen, is going to go to the players who have the greatest endurance and resilience.

Fantasy is a giant poker tournament. Sometimes you get dealt bad hands right off the bat, while others get great hands. You don’t just quit the tournament after a few hands. If you start falling behind, you adopt a different strategy to preserve your stack, wait for opportunity, slowly work your way back, and outlast all the other people at the table who start dropping like flies.

Who can maintain their "grit" and persistence in the face of constant bad news and weird twists and turns?

We can.

We’ve been doing it for years now as FF gets more bizarre with each passing year.

Fantasy advertisements have always had "dominate your opponents" as their motto or ad copy cajoling you to buy their product. They all use the same word because they are super creative and earnest...

I say to you, whatever way you play the game and wherever you like to get your information: It’s not "dominate your opponents"... it’s OUTLAST your opponents.

Endure.

Grit.

Adapt or Die.

Welcome to FF 2026... this is our strategy now: https://youtu.be/wM-lOVgoUqI?si=jVItZwhcN9jvZIUy

Get mad on Sunday/Monday. Back to work Tuesday through Saturday.

-- HEADLINE: Chiefs interested in adding wide receiver Tyreek Hill to roster (Sources).

The Chiefs were cruising along the first 3 weeks with their skill players then all hell broke loose in Week 4...just like with our Fantasy teams. Are they quitting? Nope. They’re playing the cards they’re dealt. They have an ace in the hole.

"Was there a reason why the rotation began in week three?"

"We think it's best for our team. That's what we think is best for our team. Yeah. And yeah, all three running backs are playing good wanting to utilize their skillsets."

"I guess why I'm asking is -- if it was best for the team, I'm just wondering why it wasn't best for the team in week one or week two, but in week three."

"I feel like I've answered your question."

-- (NBC) Jeremiyah Love said he told Cardinals coaches that Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight were in better shape to play than he was in Week 4 against the Giants.

Love engaged in a long, candid conversation with Cardinals beat reporters after the game today, saying his snaps are being managed because he currently is “not able to go out there and do spectacular plays every single time.” Love said this is probably going to be the “longest year” of his life, and his preseason ankle injury is not the only thing he is dealing with. Love said his body is sometimes just “tired,” and that he would “probably just hinder the team” if he took on more work in his current state. He rhetorically asked, “why not put somebody else out there that’s playing better?” For those wondering, the Cardinals don’t go on bye until Week 14. They face the fantasy-friendly Lions defense in Week 5, which could help Love get his confidence back with an efficient performance.
