Jeremyiah Love = still questionable, some say ‘game time decision, but is expected to play per Ian Rapoport.
RC Notes: He’s been limited all week. I still think it’s up in the air and that ultimately Arizona will hold him back. If I had to decide right now, I’d play Tyler Allgeier over Love.
Alvin Kamara = Not expected to play today.
Rome Odunze = Expected to play today. Been limited all week but likely being precautionary.
Malik Nabers = None of us will know until later this afternoonET. My information is that he will play but this one has had information going in so many different ways, I can’t/won’t say for sure. Limited/managed usage likely.
Joey Porter = Still up in the air.
-- No weather issues detected for today, but expected possibly wind gusts 25mph in KC on MNF in the early part of the game, perhaps.
-- HEADLINE: Texans and QB C.J. Stroud will pause contract discussion until after the 2026 season. NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reports that the Panthers will “likely” decide whether to offer QB Bryce Young an extension in the 2027 offseason.
The players who teams wanted desperately to work with got deals in the last 24-48 hours/week. A few of the teams made several offers to but the players are holding out for more (Parker).
But these two QBs...the teams are punting to be ready to change course next year or franchise tag if the QBs prove the team wrong. A lack of faith in the QB is not great. I think both QBs could be replaced in season if a slow start, a troubling start occurs. Carolina goes to Pickett...and Texans go to Davis Mills AND trades at the deadline for a veteran to lead the way for a title shot...like Cousins, Russ Wilson out of retirement, Jameis Winston, etc.
-- HEADLINE: Raiders signed TE Michael Mayer to a three-year, $45 million contract extension.
Yes, this does have to do with Brock Bowers. There are real concerns Bowers is never gonna be healthy for any extended period of time. LV needs insurance.
-- HEADLINE: Packers signed TE Tucker Kraft to a four-year, $75 million contract extension.
He’s too important to GB.
It doesn’t mean he is 100% healthy/himself just yet...just GB had to get this done.
-- HEADLINE: @Schultz_Report... Sources: Contract talks with the #Jaguars and star WR Parker Washington have come to a halt. Washington, the former 6th-round pick, plans to bet on himself by entering the season without a new deal after months of negotiating.
Gutsy for Parker...probably stupid for Parker, but gutsy. Mike Wilson, Tucker Kraft...they had to take the weak deal now because the team controls the board so much with early extensions and franchise tags. These guys know no matter how good they are, if they blow an ACL it will be held against them. Why try to get the greatest deal and fight a losing battle even if you become a star this year? George Pickens (no deal, and at-risk) is the future if these guys don’t take deals now.
You could live with $30-50M guaranteed right now vs. trying to go for $50-$80M guaranteed in a year or two. It’s not ‘right’, but the players are boxed in.

Two things come to mind on this...
1) This is what I was counting on by investing in Swift so much in redraft this year. He is ‘their guy’ but Monangai will see touches too. You want THEIR guy RBs for the coaches/organizations.
It’s one of the reasons why I’ve liked Chuba Hubbard over Jon Brooks, or at worst a split of some kind, all along.
2) The Lions did not like this guy and jettisoned him...Ben Johnson must not have agreed back in the day, but didn’t have the stroke.
-- @TomPelissero: Stability in San Francisco: The 49ers quietly signed Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension in the offseason, sources tell me. Shanahan was previously believed to be signed through 2027. Now, one of the NFL’s top coaches is locked up for years to come.
Again, my theme from the LAR-SF game report: Kyle Shananhan is on the short list for best NFL head coach in the game.
I thought Shanny may have wanted to leave after this season because of the roster aging out and them being so bad in the draft the past few years. Welp, he is staying.
Best head coach in the NFL candidates, in my book (in no particular order): Shanahan, Mike Macdonald, Ben Johnson, Sean McVay.
Possible contenders to come: Kevin O’Connell (this year is a big test to see), Liam Coen, Klint Kubiak, Shane Steichen, Dave Canales, Kellen Moore

SF v. LAR first reactions...
-- It would be one thing if the Rams lost a close game in a shootout, or a sloppy on both sides game...but the fact that they got absolutely smacked in the face and had zero life to them and absolutely nothing interesting on offense with 7+ months to plan for this game is a total embarrassment. Sean McVay called a terrible game and made head scratching rotations. Nothing worked. This was bad.
I would say ‘they’re cooked’ but many teams will gaffe Week 1 and rebound and go forward.
-- Kyle Shanahan is just a better coach than Sean McVay, but McVay is a better personnel manager/acquirer/recruiter. McVay has all the advantages of personnel via trades while the 49ers have butchered their roster for years...there should be a giant chasm between the two teams on paper the past 3 years, and yet Shanahan took his jalopy of a team and beat McVay over the head with it in Australia.
Last year, Shanny had his whole team hurt at various points and they almost won the damn division.
I’d say Seattle is the power in the NFC West now, but we have to see about Sam Darnold.
The Rams O-Line is too good for this Rams to totally fail. But leaders of this division by a landslide may be off the table. Disappointing wild card is on the table.
-- Terrance Ferguson got nothing, so I might be dropping him next week for whatever if needed. I’m sure TFerg will have his moment some day and be something--but I saw no effort at all to get him the ball...it was near as bad as Seattle treats Elijah Arroyo. Except I’ll bet Ferguson played the most snaps or close of any Rams TE in this game, and Arroyo played 11 snaps.
Ferguson was only 3 pts behind George Kittle in PPR this game.

-- De’Zhaun Stribling wasn’t playing much then got hurt and may lose his rookie season. You hate to see that. Ferguson tied Stribling for FF scoring in the game.
-- Deebo Samuel looked like he did in Washington last year...he’s built for FF. He’s gonna have a nice season. I feel good about Deebo, I feel horrible about Ferguson. That’s what happens in Week 1...and what happens on TNF games. Now I have to sit with this garbage performance where I used Ferguson in place of Bowers or over some other reasonable TE to wait for Sunday to flush it from my mind and my team’s scoring/matchup.
There will be 1-2 later round draft duds right off the bat. We flush them out and move on if it looks like we should. More on this in my game report this afternoon.
Your opponents are gonna have 1-2-3 duds as well, TF users just have one out of order and have to wait for 3 days to watch it all play out. I mean, look at some of this FF scoring after 2 games...putrid and tons of injuries. Don’t dismay on the TF egg.

-- HEADLINE: Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa was added to the injury report with an oblique injury on Thursday. Falcons QB Cooper Rush said he took all first-team reps in practice on Thursday.
It could very well be Cooper Rush this week for ATL, which puts Pittsburgh in the running for a pick in Survivor Pools if it happens.
And it hurts the entire ATL offense for FF.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the projection of Brock Bowers missing one or two weeks “is coming essentially from people around him.”
Let’s assume this is 4 weeks/games minimum. And he either isn’t right for 1-2 weeks upon return or is at a high risk of re-tear. If you started out with Bowers, you gotta take the whole situation incredibly seriously AND almost assume he’ll not really help you at all this year and be pleasantly surprised if he does--just mentally prepare like there is risk you have a painful first half of the FF-season without him. If it all ends up way ahead of schedule, then you’re good.
But I agree...this has all the makings of much longer, much more serious than 1-2 weeks.

My full, detailed scouting game report will be out sometime today. No need to rush it given this week of events. But here’s some first reactions to NE-SEA...
-- The season of injury has already begun in earnest. Your early season predictions on things are gonna slowly dissipate into the reality of the current situations...Bowers, A.J. Brown, Sam Darnold and the ripple effects we all have to deal with...it’s only just the beginning.
The likely winner of FF 2026 will be the one who makes the most and best adjustments day-to-day, week-to-week. You have to know all the ripple effects to a Darnold injury, a Bowers injury, etc. And that’s our specialty.
It already paid off in last night’s game -- on the private FFM Discord chat during the game last night, all our scouting of the past weeks and years came together and had us alerting everyone to bet Seattle once Darnold went down--once the odds went to Seattle plus points.
Ross was boasting of Mike Macdonald’s defensive capabilities before he even coached his first game. And we knew how good the Seattle defense was, and despite injuries cause two missing DBs...we knew the depth they had from the preseason tape.

Ross was early to say the Drake Maye thing was a fraud...that schedule was only one part of it.

I scouted all the Seattle preseason games...I watched Drew Lock perform well all preseason and pushed that he was one of the top backups in the league now. Not a star but can work as a fill-in. You might have read right past that at the time...who cares about the preseason backups. We do. We’re doing the dirty work, so you don’t have to.

I scouted all the Seattle and New England preseason games and could see the fire and poise and well-coached ways in Seattle down to the 3rd-teams on tape and I could also see the malaise in New England.

We were betting Seatle last night in-game when it went to +2.5, +3.5, and even more +6.5, +7.5. Needless to say, it was a good night. Would have been better if Elijah Arroyo caught one stupid pass.
All the dirty work of tape watch and scouting in the offseason in the in-season...we do all that for just these moments. It worked last night. We’ve barely begun the season and there’s been three major injuries, one to a guy not even in the game (Bowers) plus they tried to fake us with George Holani suddenly listed 3rd-team RB.
You want us on that wall; you need us on that wall.
The reason why our systems projected the Patriots to have a losing record in 2026 was on full display in this game. How does my Jets to win the AFC East long shot bet look now? Still likely to lose, but for the odds...
My first reaction to this game #1:
The Patriots are dead/not a thing.
The Seahawks are good but not the best team in football, but a playoff team...a double-digit win team. Once you’re a playoff team...anything can happen.
I could have a 180 degree opposite opinion next week after we see the mass number of injuries that hit teams.

Season 1 was really good.

I’m sure Love will be the guy, but he hasn’t earned it yet. 90%+ of head coaches would’ve listed Love #1 or been forced to. RESPECT for LaFleur...a guy I thought would be a disaster has been nothing but professional and it showed in the preseason.

They couldn’t get Penix healthy in time, which falls in our preseason medical projections. The fact that the Falcons were trying to take it down to the last hours...they don’t want to go forward with Tua, but they are forced to.
Possibly, one of the worst offseasons in personnel management from any team I’ve seen in my 15+ years studying the NFL...the Atlanta Falcons are set to try to prove me right or wrong, and it begins with Tua...probably for several weeks...and then it’s too late...and I don’t know that Penix is answer either.

-- INJURY: Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer said LG Tyler Smith will undergo thumb surgery and be sidelined for four to six weeks.
These O-Line injuries...not good man, not good. This sets back an already weak Dallas team right off the jump. Their first 7 games are two division rivals then five playoff level teams in a row.

Still...people don’t believe that George Holani is not going to get real touches. He may lead the Seahawks RB group in FF scoring per game the first few weeks...or just be ‘something, not nothing’. -- SCOUTING: I was watching LAC rookie OC/OG Jake Slaughter preseason tape...he looked very good. He looks ready to not be a problem. LAC lost starting center Tyler Biadasz for the season already...a huge hit to the offense, but Slaughter is a massive depth option/insurance...and is our #1-2 top-rated OC from the 2026 draft.
The Chargers have some guard issues but not as bad at center and they may have the best 1-2 punch tackles in the NFL. Still potentially the best O-Line in the league.

Good for him. He deserves it. Arguably the best backup QB in the league. Gives NYG a leg up on the NFC East having that insurance. Jalen Hurts better not get hurt.
