-- Week 1 Projections will start to drop a piece at a time to be ready for consideration throughout the weekend. DST + PK rankings posted.
TE projections posted last night...don’t fully rely on the extended categories like ‘Next 3 weeks’ or ‘ROS’ Several positions just yet. They are the first tests of the Week 1 foundational projections (which are good to start looking at seriously) as we’re still making sure the outlook future week items from there are good.
-- New Rookie Card giveaway...as soon as I get Week 1 projections out then I’ll start announcing winners and the lottery for the first pick, etc.
-- Preseason games week! Reports will be out as fast as we can do them properly. Week 3’s reports will be spread out through Labor Day weekend.

-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Falcons’ starting quarterback decision could be announced “as early as Monday.”
The fact that they are taking it to the last second means they are using every available minute to pray that Michael Penix can start but also have the benefit of casting doubt on the Week 1 opponent...as if it matters to them. The Falcons live in a world of make believe this entire offseason...it extends to the regular season.
-- This is getting really creepy: https://x.com/JoshChambers/status/2096321153946046778
I’m really getting worried about this relationship. Two weird dudes constantly acting weird and saying dumb coach $#!& to each other...and acting weird around each other. Mike McDaniel is a fake genius...and so many buy into it: none more than McDaniel himself.
I’m getting a vibe like I did with Chris Ballard Indy...you HAD to say he was a great, a boy wonder GM all along. He wasn’t and isn’t even close. He’s a joke.
There are worse coaches, so I think on-field talent will do their thing...but I don’t know if these two can get LAC to the promised land or not.

-- Some of the latest on Josh Jacobs’ situation...
@UpHighSports: NEW: Josh Jacobs expected to get 4-6 game suspension. Per sources privy to the matter, Jacobs is expected to avoid a larger punishment from the NFL. The suspension will be applied retroactively, so time spent on the commissioner’s exempt list would count towards the suspension.
The way more informed, thoughtful guy to read on such matters...
@DrewDavenportFF With the news that Josh Jacobs moved up his initial appearance to 9/10, over two months earlier than anticipated, let's do an #FFLegalUpdate on what that does for his fantasy football value going forward. It's a heavy draft weekend so I'll be as direct as I can.

-- HEADLINE: Jaguars general manager James Gladstone said the team would be open to negotiating an extension with WR Parker Washington in-season.

-- RB Keaton Mitchell and WR Brenen Thompson weren’t practicing during portion open to media. Mitchell has now missed six straight practices. Both were working off to the side with a trainer

== QUOTES & QUOTABLES ==
-- ESPN’s Tim McManus believes “expectations should be tempered early” for Eagles WR Makai Lemon.
-- ESPN’s Tim McManus reports that Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has bought into new OC Sean Mannion’s scheme “and is fighting hard through the learning curve.” McManus adds that “the feedback internally has been positive” regarding Hurts’ development. Mannion’s West Coast-style system is a “heavy under-center operation” that will increase the team’s play-action rate, decrease its shotgun usage and require the quarterback and his pass catchers to be on time throughout the play.
-- @micnuggetsnfl: Cam Skattebo says John Harbaugh asked whether he is ready for 20-plus carries per game after trusting Skattebo's readiness.
Cam Skattebo: “I had a couple talks with him letting him know, hey, I'm gonna be ready to go. And he trusted me, and he trusted the fact that I'm ready to go. He got a little snippet of it in our first preseason game, and he's gonna get a big snippet on Sunday Night Football. So I'm excited to show him what I have, and we talk a lot, but when he walks up to me and tells me, “Are you ready for 20-plus carries a game?” I think I'm in a pretty good spot.”

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE Cardinals signed Michael Wilson to a three-year, $75 million extension through 2029. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal includes $47 million in guarantees, with a max value of $78 million.
$47 million guaranteed is a steal. Wilson has the 21st most guaranteed money among all WRs. Just behind Calvin Ridley.
By contrast Alec Pierce got $84 million guaranteed, the #9t most for any WR...for being disappointing for 3 years and kinda decent for his last year/4th year. The best day Alec Pierce ever lived he is not better at being a WR than Michael Wilson...but he got nearly double the guarantee Wilson did. Brandon Aiyuk got $76 million guaranteed. One good season has propelled many WRs to idiotic deals. Wilson was not afforded the same...he had a half-a-good-season.
If you look at production overall for a career, this is where Wilson would land I guess...but he’s only lower in total production because his team has been run by idiots for years, ignoring Wilson, and are likely to embark on another year of lunacy. Arizona’s moronic coaching led them to push MHJ and not Wilson, and the lack of production numbers thus hurts Wilson in negotiations. You see why I get so mad at team management when they will push MHJ perpetually and subsequently ruin the career of Wilson. Had MHJ never gone down last year, Mike Wilson would have had another nothing season and be on his way to free agency 2027 for a 1-year/$10m Dyami Brown, Tutu Atwell type deal...and it was not Wilson’s fault.
And the way the NFL is structured, Wilson has no leverage. He could have said, “Fine, I’ll go to free agency next year then and take my chances!” Then Arizona would’ve stiffed him for touches, potentially, and he would have either limped into free agency...or if he became a breakout star, they would have franchise tagged him for a lesser guarantee than he just got (he would get like $28-29M next year if tagged.
Wilson likely stared down two choices...play this season and watch Arizona eff him again and he gets $10M guaranteed in 2027 or he becomes a superstar and they franchise tag him for $29M...instead he took the $47M and changed his life and can try to get another good deal when he’s 30 years old, but maybe he won’t. He took the money now out of fear the Cardinals would screw him again. This was a choice between betting on himself or betting on Arizona being idiots.
He made the wise choice.
Wilson’s college/draft stock was down due to injuries. Taking the (NFL) terrible, insulting $47M guaranteed deal to take the injury risk off the table...and was better than playing this year without a deal to risk watching them force MHJ again and his value drops to $10-15M or he shines and it’s $29M on a tag. If he knew he could get to free agency, maybe he’d deny a deal and go for freedom...but you can’t do that in the NFL, not easily. Wilson was boxed in and took his best deal, and Arizona should be ashamed of themselves...or the Colts are single stupidest run team in the league. The more I look at that Alec Pierce deal...an example of what happens when you do decide to do OK for one season and you stumble into getting to a pure free agency. Pierce’s deal is one of the worst deals in the league this year.
How much longer are we gonna be forced to think Chris Ballard is a genius? Did you see the videos from the NFL Draft war room? He isn’t even in charge of personnel anymore. He’s a corporate stooge laying low and taking paychecks...stealing them. We’d all do the same if we were Ballard.
This deal for Wilson is nice but pays him like a chump #2 WR in Arizona. So, they could end up treating him as such this season as well. At the end of this season, with another disappointing season under his belt...the Cardinals would offer MHJ a 5-year/$150M deal with $100M guaranteed, by comparison. Wilson is stuck surrounded by a terrible franchise management group and took the best deal he could now. He had no choice.
Now, Mike LaFleur sees the situation clearly...I think. He’s set to lean into Mike, because he doesn’t want to blow his chances relying on MHJ.
Wilson could also blow up in 2026 and 2027, get MHJ traded and get a whole new deal early before the 3 years...that’s Wilson’s only hope of ‘betting on himself’.
-- HEADLINE: The Athletic’s Andrew Destin believes the Seahawks will feature RB Jadarian Price on early downs while RB George Holani plays the third-down, short-yardage and goal-line roles.
Who could’ve imagined?
Next thing you’re gonna tell me is that Chuba Hubbard, not Jon Brooks, is gonna lead the Panthers backfield in Week 1.
Who could’ve imagined?
HEADLINE: ESPN’s Dan Graziano believes Chuba Hubbard will lead the Panthers backfield in 2026.

Wait, what happened to the great and powerful Jon Brooks?
I think there’s an outside chance A.J. Dillon is going to be splitting #2 duties with Brooks.
I know it’s crazy but I bet if he was called ‘Jon’ (Brooks) and not ‘Jonathon’ (Brooks), there’s be at least a -1 hit point in perception for the mainstream on thing not really seen.
Pat Bryant doesn’t sound as sexy of a player as Zavion Thomas does.
Skyler Bell sounds faster and more exciting than Chris Bell.
De’Zhaun Stribling is downright orgasmic.
Once they’re actually playing then we adjust our dials to the talent more.
Jake Butt never stood a chance, really.
-- Got a question today that I needed to address globally. The question was: Why isn’t Jacob Saylors on the Draft Guide rankings? He is after all the backup to the #1 RB for FF 2026.
Great question.
Honestly, I never thought he’d be on an NFL roster in such a situation, but I guess the multiple injuries have led us here.
I remember scouting him during his first nice preseason run from a few years ago, when everyone tried to gin up excitement for the UFL super-sleeper who was solid in the preseason--and that’s my memory of him; a solid UFL RB.
But I went ahead and watched his 2026 preseason cut-up tape and my scouting of him is a simple comp/sentence: Whatever you thought of Craig Reynolds...that’s approx. Jacob Saylors. Decent frame, marginal speed/agility. Tries hard. Isn’t the worst. Not a future star.

Player Biography
Jacob Saylors grew up in Jasper, Tennessee, starring at Marion County High School before committing to East Tennessee State University. At ETSU, Saylors developed into an all-around backfield engine and program cornerstone. After sharing touches early in his collegiate career with Quay Holmes, he broke out as a premier FCS weapon, earning First-Team All-SoCon and FCS All-American honors while stacking 3,851 career rushing yards and 33 rushing scores.
After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Saylors bounced through offseason stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. He reshaped his pro trajectory in the spring of 2024 by starring for the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks, finishing among the spring league's rushing leaders and capturing All-UFL recognition. That springboard led to offseason opportunities with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns before returning to St. Louis for the 2025 UFL slate. Saylors proved his 2024 production was no fluke, earning a consecutive All-UFL selection with 744 total yards from scrimmage in 9 games. The NFL took notice: the Detroit Lions signed him for their 2025 campaign, where Saylors carved out a vital role as Detroit’s primary kickoff returner, averaging over 27 yards per runback while handling situational snaps. His football journey reflects classic developmental grit, transforming from an overlooked small-school standout into an established spring-league workhorse and legitimate NFL special teams contributor.
Scouting Breakdown: Top 5 Pros & Cons
Pros
- Downhill One-Cut Vision: Identifies creases quickly in gap and zone looks, planting and getting north-south without wasting steps behind the line of scrimmage.
- Dual-Threat Pass Catching: Natural hands out of the backfield with route fluidity on angles and wheels, averaging over 11.0 yards per catch during his 2025 UFL campaign.
- Dynamic Special Teams Value: Verified ability to flip field position as an NFL returner, showing patience setting up blocks and acceleration through seam lanes.
- Low Center of Gravity Contact Balance: Compact 5'8 1/2" frame allows him to absorb arm tackles and bounce off glancing contact in crowded boxes.
- Ball Security: Excellent technical care carrying the football through traffic, logging zero fumbles across full seasons in spring and NFL action.
Cons
- Sub-Par Long Speed: 4.66-second 40-time shows on tape; does not possess runaway breakaway gear against NFL secondaries and gets tracked down in open field.
- Stiff Change-of-Direction Testing: A 7.65-second 3-cone and 4.50-second short shuttle represent bottom-tier agility metrics for an undersized back.
- Limited Short-Yardage Push: Lacks the sheer mass (199 lbs) and length (29" arms) to consistently push scrums on 3rd-and-short between the tackles.
- Pass Protection Mass: While willing, his small frame leaves him vulnerable to power rushes when anchoring against blitzing NFL linebackers.
- FCS / Spring League Translation Gap: Heaviest career touches came against non-NFL fronts, making offensive coordinators hesitant to hand him primary backfield volume at the top level.
10 Key Metrics & Statistics (The Good and The Bad)
The Good
- 27.2 Kick Return Average (2025 NFL): Ranked among the league leaders in kickoff return efficiency on 33 attempts for Detroit.
- 11.1 Yards Per Reception (2025 UFL): Exceptional efficiency for a running back, racking up 245 yards on just 22 grabs.
- 2-Time All-UFL Selection (2024, 2025): Dominant back-to-back spring campaigns proving he can handle lead-back workloads.
- 0 Fumbles in 2025: Flawless ball security across 144 combined regular/postseason touches in the UFL and NFL.
- 1.60-second 10-Yard Split: Respectable first-step burst out of his stance despite lower overall top speed.
The Bad
- 7.65-second 3-Cone Drill: Unusually slow for an NFL back under 200 lbs, highlighting ankle stiffness on sharp lateral cuts.
- 4.66-second 40-Yard Dash: Places him in roughly the 25th percentile for NFL running backs, limiting home-run ability.
- 29.0-inch Arm Length: Significantly below average reach, restricting his catching radius and pass-protection punch.
- 13 Bench Press Reps (225 lbs): Below-average upper-body power metric for an inside-running profile.
- 2 Regular-Season NFL Carries (2025): Despite being active in 16 games, saw almost exclusively special-teams deployment on offense.

It seems the sides are at least making progress, with Weinfuss hearing about “movement” in negotiations.

-- @micnuggetsnfl: Chris Rodriguez Jr. has stood out in pass protection, and Ameer Abdullah may help fill LeQuint Allen Jr.'s third-down pass-game void.
Liam Coen: “I think all of them have been working at it. I think C-Rod has done a great job in pass protection specifically. And then Ameer, I think can help us in some of the pass game and things that we wanted to do with LaQuint as we go. I think he can kind of help fill that void as well.”

Both Hall and Judkins are bad locker room guys, even before this recent activity. Nice job Cleveland!

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Malik Nabers (knee) remains noncommittal about his Week 1 status.
I would be legit concerned he is missing Weeks 1-2 with worries he’s gonna push himself in too fast and not truly be ready and gets hurt in some other compensatory way. It was Nabers who had a press conference talking about this.
Ditto Kittle, Kraft, Pierce among others right now. Guys who should probably PUP for 4 weeks but won’t.
Indy signed Keenan Allen. Green Bay has signed two tight ends in the last week.
@Connor_J_Hughes: #Giants WR Malik Nabers worked with trainers to begin practice, then got into team work, John Harbaugh said. Called it “day to day.”
This is different than what it’s been for Nabers, who had been doing individual drills most of camp, and started doing team drills recently.
Harbaugh says they’re preparing for all outcomes as it pertains to Nabers’ availability.

-- HEADLINE: Texans GM Nick Caserio said Keylan Rutledge would start at left guard.
He called him “their best offensive lineman.”
Texans GM Nick Caserio said the team has placed RT Braden Smith (foot) on injured reserve.
Houston really put a lot into their O-Line this year. If they get it right if they can keep them healthy then it may lead to an improved CJ Stroud and a Super Bowl run behind that defense.
Keylan Rutledge was one of the best rookies I saw from the preseason...that helps. Caserio made a huge statement about him.
Cesario on the OLs: https://x.com/OLCoachSmith63/status/2094829199013921234?s=20
At least he’s focused on the right thing.
The Texans are one of the handful of teams legit for the Super Bowl.

-- Raiders GM John Spytek said Ashton Jeanty (ankle) is in a “good spot” and said “I expect him to be back as quick he can, maybe quicker than some people would expect. When that is, we’ll see.”
-- Lions placed RB Isiah Pacheco (back) on injured reserve.
-- Jaguars placed OL Patrick Mekari (back) on injured reserve. Not helpful...thankfully, they drafted Pregnon, who will start.
-- Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said WR Savion Williams (ankle/IR) has a high-ankle sprain.
-- 49ers general manager John Lynch said he hopes Mike Evans (adductor) will practice next week.
-- Alec Pierce (ankle) practiced Tuesday.
-- NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports Jeremiyah Love is “about 50/50" to play in Week 1 against the Chargers.
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES ==
-- @micnuggetsnfl: Ted Hurst III has progressed from a future-focused prospect into a player expected to have a role this year.
Jason Licht: “After we drafted him, I personally thought, okay, this is a great situation for him to be behind these guys and learn, may not make a big impact for us this year but, one for the future. But I think he's proven to us throughout camp, even OTAs, practice every day that he's been very, very steady. And I think it's kind of evolved into okay, we can use him this year and he's going to play a role.”
-- Joe Milton was not claimed on waivers.
-- Asked if he would play in Week 1 without a new contract, Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. said “I don’t know. I’ve got to talk to the guys upstairs (in the front office) and my agents about that one.”
-- Saints signed WR Cedric Tillman to their practice squad.
-- Colts GM Chris Ballard said Keenan Allen will play in Indianapolis’ Week 1 game against the Ravens.
-- Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said he expected Josh Jacobs to play for the team in 2026.

Today/tomorrow
-- Tuesday Night Video Q&A: 8:30-10pmET+. Your questions my answers AND our infamous FFM benefactor has shipped me another case of valuable football cards to give away. Like last year, we’re going to give them away to random people based on my categories that I have cooked up.
But what are the cards in the box? Well, I don’t know. I have a box all wrapped up...I am going to open them live on the show and show you and I what they are. They could be awesome...they could be duds but knowing this collector and what he gave to the FFM community last year, they are not duds. Last year it was rookies and autograph specials, and 1-2 of them may have been unique 1 of 1 things you couldn’t get anywhere else.
We all find out live tonight!

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- RUMOR (from one of my guys/sources): Green Bay is trying to make another trade for a running back. Some of the names being kicked around...
The Pack would love to get A.J. Dillon from Carolina, but the Panthers lost Trevor Etienne to injury and have their worried about Jon Brooks in general and then Chuba being nicked up this preseason...and thus the Panthers haven’t accepted the small offers.
If they can’t make a deal for an RB, they will likely bring in Kareem Hunt for a look.
Lloyd likely is the ‘starter’ but Chris Brooks could be the lead snaps in a committee as well.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Brady Henderson believes the Seahawks will “roll with [Jadarian] Price as their lead back while mixing in a heavy dose of George Holani.”
Seattle listed Holani as the #1 RB on the depth chart, but that doesn’t mean Jadarian Price won’t play more or touch the ball more. But early on it could be Holani as the lead toucher of the ball and snap counts for 2-3 weeks into the season maybe. Holani has looked good this preseason.
I’d say trade Holani hot, but the FF overlords don’t care about Holani so the general FF pop doesn’t care about Holani, so we might as well just hold him headed towards Week 1.
But it will not crazy to try and snag a low level something you might need/want more for Holani in a trade this week...especially as stories/blurbs hit today about Holani being listed #1.

-- OH SNAP: https://x.com/micnuggetsnfl/status/2094582368606544254
-- @DhananiZain: Sounds like the Bears could still put Kyle Monangai on IR-R
I have not seen anything suggesting they will thus far, but figured it was notable that it’s still a possibility.
Bears signed RB Salvon Ahmed to their practice squad.
-- Raiders placed WR Dont’e Thornton Jr. on the reserved/injured list.
-- Chargers RB Keaton Mitchell (undisclosed) did not practice Monday. (Growing talk that he might be headed to IR or just ‘out’ for Week 1. BUT... Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said he doesn't expect RB Keaton Mitchell to go on IR and anticipates him playing Week 1.
“That’s what he’s working for. Yeah. He’s working through something, but nothing [major] Let's put it this way: we could put him down on IR today like we did with Denzel and we did not do that. So if that kind of answers your question.”
-- Cardinals HC Mike LaFleur said RB Jeremiyah Love is “progressing really well toward playing in Week 1.”
-- ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reports Steelers WRs DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman are “expected to be ready” for Week 1.

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- TRADE: Falcons acquired DL Gervon Dexter from the Bears in exchange for DB Clark Phillips and a fifth-round pick.
HEADLINE: Bears placed DB Kyler Gordon on the reserve/physically unable to perform list with a calf injury.
The Bears had had it with Gordon’s issues, injuries just a part of it. The Bears needed to do something to fix this situation.
I’m not going to repeat myself here because I wrote about it in the TEN-CHI game report yesterday...but just note this is A BIG DEAL. Make sure you read why in that game report.
-- HEADLINE: NFL placed Packers RB Josh Jacobs on the Commissioner Exempt List.
Well, it’s real now.
So many players have been getting case pushed off into the future and the NFL would then wait for the court case to finalize.
That video tape must be the smoking gun beyond what we all speculated due to the ‘misdemenor’ label on his arrest. I’d assume the worst for Jacobs now. Six game suspension minimum you have to bake in, and if it’s less for a JJ owner then ‘bullet dodged’ to some degree. https://x.com/ConnorAllenNFL/status/2094139297536623101
-- TRADE: Packers acquired RB Kaleb Johnson from the Steelers for a sixth-round pick.
The Packers had to do something. This is something. A guy about to get cut, they stepped in front of the line and grabbed him for more than a typical 7th-rpund pick exchange. I’m sure GB is not done yet. There’s no way they can go forward depending heavily upon Marshawn Lloyd.
Kaleb was looking better to me this preseason...there looks to be room for some hope, but he needs to prove it for real. He’s about to get the chance.
GB may make a move for like a Tyrone Tracy and piss off FF owners of Lloyd or Kaleb. Kareem Hunt is possible. I bet they’d like to have gotten A.J. Dillon back, but the Panthers kept him on the roster...which is more bad news for Jon Brooks. GB would be wise to snag/add TB RB Josh Williams since they tried to be slick and cut him to try to stash on the practice squad.
-- HEADLINE: Colts WR Keenan Allen was arrested early on Sunday morning and charged with DWI and DWI endangering a person.
He was arrested while sitting in a car, not a moving violation. Probably not a suspension.
Here’s some footage of the scene: https://x.com/ghetto_gronk/status/2094122356759224654
