== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love will be out this week as he deals with a sore ankle, Mike LaFleur said. LaFleur said the Cardinals will revisit Love’s status after this week, but he wouldn’t commit to a long-term prognosis for Love.
https://x.com/DrJesseMorse/status/2088691706833059881
I think we’ve seen the last of Love for the preseason, and we saw too much of him on Thursday--you can’t put these type of players at risk in a preseason game, especially at RB taking the worst of hits. A series, a few touches, sure...but he went a couple series. It looks like Love will be back in time for Week 1.
-- Whoa...I did not see this coming. This is bad.
Game notes NYG from a source: Isaiah Likely didn't start and played 6-of-16 snaps on the first two drives with Jaxson Dart. All of his snaps were in on pass plays. Theo Johnson, C. Manhertz, and FB Patrick Ricard were out there to block.
We’ll see if there’s an explanation for this (offense working on certain situations, or...), but it looks like Likely is just there for passing downs/limited snaps...AGAIN (see Baltimore years with Harbaugh).
On the flip side, there may be a lot of 12 personnels coming but the Giants didn’t want to reveal too much. The flip side to that...I don’t think Matt Nagy will chase the 12 personnel revolution.
If I have to make a decision now, today, based off this game info without any other explanations--I have to downgrade Likely a touch, partially because we’ve seen Harbaugh do this to Likely before..
There are two types of Fantasy TEs...one on the field all the time, and the other is only really playing passing downs. And passing game TEs can do fine for FF--but they aren’t taking down ‘the big 3’.
-- RC NOTE: I know the headline being pushed is Jaxson Dart going to the blue medical tent, again. But he was fine...just a defender got a free run and blasted Dart.
Dart was fine, and then did this: https://x.com/JosinaAnderson/status/2088683458331582491
But all I am seeing nationally is = Dart went to the blue tent!!! *UNDERLYING TONE* He essentially got concussed again, what’s wrong with that guy.
He didn’t get concussed. He wasn’t running wild.

== QUOTES & QUOTABLES ==
-- Joe Brady: DJ Moore 'good to go' after injury scare
-- @mike_e_kaye: Through two preseason games, #Panthers backup QB Kenny Pickett: 24 of 30 for 154 yards and a touchdown. He has a 99.2 passer rating despite facing pressure on 29.7% of his dropbacks and taking four sacks, per Next Gen Stats.
-- In his first NFL preseason game, Rams first-round pick Ty Simpson has completed 21-of-25 passes for 190 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
-- @DhananiZain: My take is to react and just believe Emmett Johnson is the handcuff (or Kareem Hunt off the street). Demercado was getting reps after Brashard Smith. Emmett recently got his first 1st team reps. Demercado isn’t some impressive profile so it’s believable.

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Cardinals OG Chase Bisontis will undergo surgery to repair a torn MCL in his knee and could miss the 2026 season.
The Cardinals offense has been looking much better in the preseason under new management (compared to last season), but the offensive line...it was a bit of a concern going into this preseason and then they may have just lost their second best offensive lineman in this game. The rookie guard was playing excellent football and now he's likely lost for the season. A massive, massive blow.
Even when the Cardinals do something right, like steal Chase Bisontis in the draft...it ends up biting them.
-- HEADLINE: Jaguars coach Liam Coen said the team’s running back usage “is going to have to be a little bit more by committee” this season.
After an offseason of non-stop “Bhayshul Tuten is the greatest” hype, the narrative is finally shifting. Ever since Chris Rodriguez Jr. returned to practice following his foot rehab, the beat writers and insiders are suddenly talking about “shared backfields,” “specific roles,” and committee approaches.
I can tell you where this is going—because I’ve been trying to tell you where this was going all along is...
I don’t care if they officially list him as a co-starter or if they refuse to start him at all in Week 1--when the dust settles, Chris Rodriguez Jr. is going to be the main running back for the Jaguars this season because, quite frankly, he is by far the most talented runner on that roster. The committee talk is just a transition period; eventually, the best player takes the lead.
-- HEADLINE: NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Saints WR Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is seeking multiple opinions on his recent injury.
Things suddenly don’t sound very good on this...we may know something in a day or two but if Tyson gets put on the PUP list for another injury, another hamstring...it’s going to be a hit to his DRD valuations. Lemon hamstrings...Tyson hamstrings...not good.
NOT GOOD: https://x.com/DrJesseMorse/status/2088376255896768923

-- NFL Legend Steve Smith Sr. On #Chiefs rookie Cyrus Allen: “Cyrus Allen is going to be eventually, in my humble opinion….their number one Wide Receiver.”
@ConcernsChief: Legendary WR Steve Smith gave his VERY honest assessment of the Chiefs WR room.
Rashee Rice: Likes the talent, but has concerns about his knee.
Thornton & Worthy: Need to expand their route trees.
Jalen Royals: Smith wasn’t impressed with his energy.
Cyrus Allen: Smith compared the rookie to HIMSELF and believes Allen can eventually become the Chiefs’ WR1. That’s some SERIOUS praise.
-- Quick Bengals notes from X: Did mix under center/UC play action - no Erick All so grain of salt. Chase Brown: didn’t get the full bellcow snap share - did lineup wide once. Samaje Perine clear RB2. Andrei Iosivas clear WR3. TE rotation (and All didn’t play)
-- @JacobBarzilla: Some other offensive notes I have as takeaways from camp so far:
Woody Marks is going to get more touches than I expected.
The staff seems to love Ed Ingram & he feels as entrenched at his spot as anyone.
If Jaylin Noel can get healthy, he should easily be the 3rd WR in targets & snaps.
I think Trent Brown has outperformed Braden Smith in the practices I’ve seen.
Noah Whittington is absolutely in the mix for RB3.
This is probably the best I’ve felt about a Texans offense if Nico Collins was to miss games.
Moreau, Klein and Stover is the best TE depth I’ve seen from this team.
Playing Keylan Rutledge through the adjustment is the right decision and should pay dividends long-term.
-- @DhananiZain: Jordan Mason speculation as the bellcow rushing down back - Aaron Jones with pass down work.

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- RC NOTE: OK, the preseason games are underway...so, my life is going to be taken away watching the game tapes and doing reports, as well as Ross Jacobs’ time is going into the game tape bunker.
So, the news & notes section here will be up and down for a few weeks because we’ll save so much stuff for the game reports themselves.
Game reports coming at you as fast as we can properly do them...you hate to rush these things. My first one is about done from LATE last night work: GB at PIT.
Then Ross and I are working on ARI at LV for a Two Scouts Talking first of a ‘what we saw’ game report, which I will convert to a transcript/written report as well.
-- HEADLINE: Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said RB Jaydon Blue and RB Phil Mafah “are going to get a bunch of work” in the preseason.
More and more when they talk about Blue...they also mention Mafah. I personally think they know Mafah is better, and have all along...as most of you know...way better...but they are so committed to Blue not being an embarrassing pick...and he looks so good in shorts/t-shirt...when the pads come on it’s Mafah time.
It’s gonna be hard for Dallas to lean into this reality.
Similar backs and situations, kinda...
Mafah > Blue
Rodriguez > Tuten
Coaches being wrong > Seeing this reality right in front of their faces.
Last year, Liam Coen could not SEE Parker Washington, so I’m not just making up critiques.
-- HEADLINE: Giants OC Matt Nagy said QB Jaxson Dart is “super talented,” but is experiencing “struggles” in training camp.
I do not want to keep hearing this type of talk. And now the offensive coordinator is saying it, not just the media. I’ll bet Nagy wears it as a badge of honor that his offense is so “simple” that even mere mortals at quarterback can easily figure it out. Give me a break.
I don’t think this has anything to do with Jaxson Dart—it has everything to do with Matt Nagy. The reason quarterbacks look like they’re struggling in a Nagy offense is because the receivers run such tired, predictable routes that they’re all covered at all times. The quarterback freezes because he has no one to throw to, then he has to scramble around trying to buy time for the receivers to do something. But I think Nagy coaches the receivers to do nothing but go to their spot, sit down, and turn around. The whole thing is a total mess.
The Giants are really going to regret this Matt Nagy hiring. It’s a shame because there are a lot of neat young pieces on that offense, and it’s all going to be suppressed by Nagy for as long as he’s there. I would not be shocked if Harbaugh fires him midway through the season.

-- @BleedinBnG: Nah, I’ve been to 4 days of camp Bill’s (JCM) firmly entrenched as the RB1 right now because he’s such a great fit in this outside zone scheme he’s had some huge runs… put Rachaad White will definitely be a PPR scat back
JCM > Rachaad
-- @Schultz_Report: The #Seahawks are expected to sign former Lions CB Terrion Arnold, multiple sources tell me.
Terrion Arnold is close friends with #Seahawks QB Jalen Milroe, who gave the organization positive reviews about the type of person Arnold would be in the Seattle building and how he would fit their culture.
-- Jordan Mason has been the star of the Vikings offense this week, per @JasonHarmonNFL.
“The 27-year-old back has had multiple breakaway runs in just the last two days, showcasing a level of speed we’ve rarely seen from his runs up the gut. It seems clear that Mason is a beneficiary of Frank Smith’s newly implemented outside zone scheme.”
Mason > Jones
-- @DhananiZain: Trey McBride 43 targets in 8 11-on-11 sessions open to reporters and more than 2x any other pass catcher
-- Recounting the incident on the "Impaulsive" podcast, Puka Nacua admitted that he ran into a glass window pane at a party hosted by Fanatics founder Michael Rubin. According to Nacua, he got distracted while looking for teammate Davante Adams and didn't see the freshly cleaned glass pane in front of him.
"Uh, the glass window pane won," Nacua said.
Podcast host Mike Majlak, who witnessed the aftermath in person, recalled seeing a commotion before realizing what had happened. He added that Nacua was "bleeding" from his face.
Nacua said he didn't initially realize what caused the cut but added that he wasn't the only victim offered mixed comfort. "They made me feel better when they said three other people ran into it," Nacua said. "But nobody else ended up bleeding from it. So I don't know if that made me feel much better or worse."
Misleading RotoBlurb/football headlines makes you think Puka was drunk and ran into glass.

-- RC: So many questions on Pat Bryant the past 24 hours...football is back!
Ross and I are doing an emergency scouting assessment on ‘Just How Good is Pat Bryant” for Two Scouts Talking show...recording it this morning and releasing as fast as I can do it.
How good is he for FF...that’s a different question...you’ll see changes on Bryant reflected in the draft guide update planned for Friday.
-- HEADLINE: Bears head coach Ben Johnson said he wants to break the NFL’s record for most points in a season in 2026.
“I want more than (the Super Bowl),” Johnson told The Athletic. “I want to have the highest-scoring offense ever, which happens to be the 2013 Denver Broncos. I know how many points per game they scored (37.9), and I want to surpass them. I want shutouts. I want blowouts.”
I’ve got a report coming out today that is on the interview that this quote was taken from and its FF impact.
-- HEADLINE: Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy are listed as co-starters on the Giants’ first unofficial depth chart.
This is a surprise to me. I would’ve thought Cam would be the clear #1.
This may be just ‘Cam missed much of the offseason’.
Or it could be--trying to make Cam work for it/slap down his arrogance (my personal choice, if not the prior statement).
Or I guess...it could be what Harbaugh-Nagy thinks, what they want to do--a split backfield.
Just so happens, our Friday video scouting on TST is on: Cam Skattebo...a check of his 2025 tape.
-- HEADLINE: Panthers signed a one-year contract with TE Darren Waller, formerly of the Dolphins.
Worst possible landing spot for FF. I’m not even going to pay attention to it...and it is no real help to Tet.
-- INFO: A play log/outcomes of all the Rams plays 1st-2nd-3rd team offense vs. Dallas 1st-2nd-3rd defense from their recent scrimmage.

-- @FBInjuryDoc: potential turf toe for Emeka Egbuka. Median return to play in the NFL is 28 days. But if mild he’ll likely only need 2-3 weeks to recover. For now, his Week 1 status shouldn’t be in question.

“Tight ends shouldn’t be able do that” -- RC Fischer
-- Dolphins HC Jeff Hafley promised a heavy workload for De'Von Achane during an interview with “The Rich Eisen Show,” saying that the star running back could have games in which he touches the ball more than 40 times.
-- Michael Penix said his doctor told him he has “an amazing ACL” and he should “never have any more knee problems for the rest of your career.”
-- @32BeatWriters: “Trey Benson needed to have a strong training camp to make the Cardinals think twice about moving on from him, especially after adding Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier this offseason. The results? Benson barely practiced during team drills thanks to his ongoing recovery from meniscus
-- @DhananiZain: Dolphins are in the market for a TE. Jonnu Smith and Waller floated - sounds like Jonnu is the preferred option. Also sounds like Jonnu is holding out for more money
-- @DhananiZain: Sean Payton (rightfully) saying Jaylen Waddle has it all: Going to play inside and outside. Separates in the two ways WRs can - speed + ability to stop fast. Didn’t feel like they could find a talent like his in the draft (based on their slot, which is why they traded for him
-- @greggrosenthal thoughts from Chargers camp:
- LOTs of Charlie Kolar, TE versatility
- Akheem Mesidor is story of camp
- Unclear when R. Slater returns, LG wide open
- Rookie Genesis Smith could play right away, 2 UDFA DBs could make team

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Vikings named Kyler Murray the team’s Week 1 starter.
The Vikings had to name Kyler the starter. I think Kevin O'Connell realizes what a massive mistake it would be to throw JJ McCarthy in as a week 1 starter when everyone hates him right now. The JJM redemption story can only happen with Kyler winning the job/getting the start week 1... And then if and when Kyler falters--then McCarthy can come in under no pressure as an underdog savior hope.
I think this “QB competition” was closer than analysts expected but even if McCarthy blew away Murray the Vikings have to let Kyler start week one period they have to keep McCarthy off the field for now.
I think the Vikings also named Kyler the starter for Week 1 early/now because they wanted to do it before the preseason games went off so that there was no micro dissection of both of their play each week. Just let Kyler be the starter for now and hope that McCarthy does a great job in the preseason to help start rehabbing his image. I would not be shocked if McCarthy was the better quarterback in the preseason. I hope for his sake he is. He doesn't deserve this hate he's getting nor does Kyler Murray deserve to be a team's savior.
-- RC: You (the analyst class, and thus the general fans) can say all you want about Jonathon Brooks being a league winner and so awesome...he’s #2 on the depth chart to start the season...because that’s what his role is. Chuba Hubbard is the desired starter and Brooks is trying to be a solid #2. There is no takeover at this point...if ever.
-- HEADLINE: Seahawks placed FB Robbie Ouzts (neck) on injured reserve.
This seems like nothing news, but THIS IS A MASSIVE hit to the Seattle run game. Ouzts is one of the great ‘dirty jobs’ players in the league. Yards per carry downgrades for the RBs today.
-- HEADLINE: Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are listed as co-starters on Cleveland’s initial unofficial depth chart.
This has been one of the worst QB battles of all time. Just when you think the Cleveland Browns cannot get any more embarrassing...
Dillon Gabriel is gonna have his time before you know it.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Coby Bryant (knee) underwent surgery and will miss 4-6 months.
This is such a massive blow to the bears. A fantastic free agent signing and now he's gonna miss most of the season. Xavier Woods is going to have to step up in his place or they're gonna have find a safety from somewhere to plug in.
-- HEADLINE: The Jaguars listed Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez as co-starters on their initial unofficial depth chart.
Well well well... I thought Bhayshul Tuten was the greatest running back ever and Rodriguez was some distant backup that wasn't even going to be considered as a starter? We tried to tell you...
Tuten = trending down.
Chris Rodriguez = https://youtu.be/aO2f7nvnCzM?si=WHc46DDeao6JzSWI

-- DC Ejiro Evero said he feels like he’s speaking with another coach when he talks with Devin Lloyd.
-- Jadarian Price missed his third straight practice Monday, and Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the team was in no rush to get Price back on the field before the preseason opener.
-- DeVon Achane workload: https://x.com/YahooFantasy/status/2086957689142481056
-- Chargers LT Rashawn Slater said he had a minor flare-up in his surgically repaired knee when he left practice early in San Diego last week. “Nothing crazy,” Slater said. “Nothing that's concerning.”

New series: BEST Organization.
From the perspective of thinking of the organization as a ‘stock’...would I buy this stock, which one would I want over all the teams/stocks? Considering their current everything...current Owner, current GM, Current coaching staff, roster, and geography. Not for wins-losses, but quality of the organization as a whole.
We’ll add a team a day (alpha order) and just rank them and tier them as we go...this will take us to the start of the season.

Chicago
Buffalo
Carolina, Cincinnati (I would go higher here because you got the elite QB in place but then everything else is a mess...owner, personnel, head coach, geography)
Atlanta, Baltimore
Arizona

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Chargers OC Mike McDaniel said he could use all three RBs in a game and that usage may depend on who has the “hot hand.”
Remember the rule: Don’t pay attention to anything Mike McDaniel says he’s just a hype man/yapping chihuahua. He knows who his main back is.
From a source of mine: Observing a recent practice... Vidal didn’t get one snap with Herbert, it was all Hampton and Keaton with the 1s.
X/Tweet of the Year candidate: https://x.com/Ihartitz/status/2086941072593137713
-- HEADLINE: Lions HC Dan Campbell said C Cade Mays (wrist) will miss a “significant amount of time.”
They’ve lost a #1 draft pick CB (Arnold). They’re down two top defenders (Branch, Joseph). And they’ve lost their free agent signee starting Center. This is three years in a row injury prone. Maybe Detroit has to rethink its practice methods or something?
People keep talking about their (easy) schedule but if they keep losing key starters, what does it matter?
-- Washington Commanders Depth Chart release at RB:
(1) Jacory Croskey-Merritt
(2) Rachaad White
(3) Kaytron Allen
JCM as the lead in a split with Rachaad appears real, and being listed as the lead really matters at this point. I thought they would've gone with the experienced back and Jayden BFF as the listed #1 or co-#1, but naming JCM the lead at this stage is pretty nice for the coaching staff's thoughts on JCM.
-- The Alec Pierce issue from a Twitter doc that has respected insights: https://x.com/FBInjuryDoc/status/2086639517591654551
Then there was this late headline: The Athletic’s James Boyd reports Colts WR Alec Pierce received a second PRP injection in his injured ankle.
The outlook for Week 1 is getting grim/bleak.
And he has this on Luther Burden: https://x.com/FBInjuryDoc/status/2086550542688678301

-- Sean Payton says JK Dobbins is going to be fine with a soft tissue injury
-- From 7/31 (collected this quote and forgot to publish): Aaron Rodgers on Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson: “Germ is going to get some opportunities, but I think the guy out of anybody that’s really shown this new staff a lot of great tape is Roman Wilson. I think Roman had a really nice spring.” https://youtu.be/w9tD5ln3W9w?si=j6pHZrJX5mDfL-QR
-- From a source of mine: Braelon Allen has pulled ahead in the Breece ‘handcuff’ sweepstakes, but it still would likely be an Allen/Davis split behind Breece. And this offense is not a three-headed monster it is all-Breece.
-- Commanders kicker battle: https://x.com/NickiJhabvala/status/2086816849803559053
-- Kay Adams: "How the hell are you going to keep [Pat Bryant] off the field?"
Sean Payton: "We're not..."
-- De’Zhaun Stribling, per @grantcohn “He hasn't even played a preseason game yet, and he already is the best wide receiver on the team. Full stop. He's the only wide receiver on the roster who will actually frighten opposing defenses this year.”
-- Ashley Bastock: End of #Browns practice. One minute end of half situation. Sanders up first and the drive ends with two false starts on the line. Watson next and after two completions, a sack, an illegal formation and a false start. Monken ended practice and looked like he threw something.
-- The key of this one little clip was (to me)...Cyrus Allen keeps getting work with the 1st-team: https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2086870505240572328
-- My sources keep saying they think the Indy current #2 RB is: DJ Giddens right now
-- Adam Schefter on the Vikings QB situation: “I don’t know that they’re prepared right now to say that one quarterback has distinguished themselves to win that job.”

-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Jordan Raanan says “barring a setback, it seems Malik Nabers (knee) is trending towards being ready Week 1 for the Dallas Cowboys.”
Once we all got the news that the media got Nabers’ 2nd surgery/clean up date wrong...the path to Week 1 was in play.
What we don’t know/what we have to factor into his projections are...
1) How ‘back’ will he be in Week 1? It may take a few weeks/into October before he has the full faith and trust, and explosion in his leg again.
2) The always tricky, sneaky ‘compensatory injury’ is high (not imminent, but is 15-25% range?)...subconsciously favoring his knee and causing a hamstring injury or other thing is elevated in these cases...for him and Kittle, Kraft, Pierce, etc.
Don’t forget...he never did fix his foot issue. What if (random example) NYG goes (1-6) or (3-7) off the bat? Is he going in for tat foot surgery he has needed for years?
-- HEADLINE: NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Bears WR Luther Burden will “miss a little bit of time” with a groin injury.
Well, good news for him: it’s not the worst-case scenario. The Bears have not projected his timeline for recovery, but they will tell us what we really need to know by what WR move they make next.
Sign a ‘jobber’ camp body WR to help at practice?
...or sign Keenan Allen, etc.?
We don’t know yet.
-- HEADLINE: Saints OG Dillon Radunz suffered a torn ACL, ending his season.
Not a key starter, was actually now set to be a backup. Depth loss but not a critical loss.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Jamison Hensley said he is not sure he’s seen a Ravens rookie have a better training camp than WR Ja’Kobi Lane in 27 years.
The buzz on Lane is loud this summer. It may be true that he’s amazing...or it may be ‘things are easier in camp’ type situation. We’ll find out over the next few weeks. I know he can catch, but not sure if he can get open, etc., to make him an FF-star. The next few weeks is where we start getting answers to those questions in real football activity. My life is locked in for the next 6 months...football prison.
-- SIDE NOTE: I have no firsthand knowledge of this product nor do I get anything from them, but someone sent me this info and I had no idea. They have a lot of athletes in contact sports using it, it appears.
For any of you with kids or grandkids who are playing tackle football or whatever contact sports...
I had no idea this existed: https://q30.com/pages/luke-kuechly-nfl-hall-of-fame-induction
