== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- Tucker Kraft: “{The doctor] told me my knee looks spectacular, almost like he had never seen rehabilitation like mine. So the fact that we’re getting those results, the data will speak for itself and my comeback is ever-ascending day by day.”
I don’t know if Kraft is being hyperbolic or his doctor is being too nice, but if Kraft hits the ground running like normal in Week 1...defying most timelines for his injury...and Malik Nabers does as well and Quinshon Judkins does and Zach Charbonnet does and George Kittle does--we all have to rethink/recalculate injury recovery, throw out the entire history/recent history of injury recovery and re-do it with shorter recovery timelines and re-do/expand what we think ‘drop off age’ is.
The thing is that--we won’t know if all these guys or just some of them are going to defy history until it’s too late/into the season.
I’ll be tracking...and will be VERY interested to see how this all worked out--did they stick normal recovery timeframes or defy them? Did they get the dreaded compensatory injuries the next year (this year, for them)? Is there even a pattern?
-- Chiefs WR Cyrus Allen (shin) is day-to-day with a bone bruise.
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (shoulder) was carted from practice Saturday.
Where we are at in the world today: There was more consternation about Allen getting hurt than anyone cared about Worthy getting carted off.
Worthy better not let Cyrus get a week or month of playtime in his place...
Ultimately, there may not be anything Worthy can do about it anyway.
Ross and I will be discussing our latest scouting session of Cyrus Allen on ‘Two Scouts Talking’ YouTube channel. Video to be released in the next week approx.
-- ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports TE Elijah Arroyo has been a standout through the first week of Seahawks training camp.
Finally, some good news...if you just take in the headline. But...
But the bad news is, what they didn’t say...my source said: Yeah, but as I watch him--all he’s doing it seems is working with Jalen Milroe on the 2nd-team!
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES (pulled from an internet A.I. search, I try to make sure it’s accurate but some of it is ‘trust in AI’) ==
-- NFL Network’s Steve Wyche reports Broncos “will explore bringing in free agent TE Taysom Hill.”
-- 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
-- Bills S C.J. Gardner-Johnson (leg) was carted to the locker room on Saturday.
-- Speaking to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop about former Rams DT Aaron Donald’s potential return, coach Sean McVay said his “arrow” is “trending upward.”
-- Colts hosted RB Kenny McIntosh for a workout on Friday.
-- ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reports Isaac Guerendo (pec, PUP) “seems to be healing well.”
-- The Lions are signing former All-Pro LB Devin White to a 1-year deal, per sources.

-- HEADLINE: Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the team “isn’t happy about the way (Baker Mayfield) spoke about the organization.”
This is the story of the preseason (until Aaron Donald walks through that door). As I have been howling about all summer on TB v. Baker.
Arizona messing around with Jacoby Brissett, I could kinda get even though they wasted so much time and goodwill...but messing around with Baker, if you’re Tampa...what a massive mistake. Piece by piece the GM is destroying this team/the franchise...which is a surprise because he’s been so solid prior. Maybe it was just Tom Brady saved them for stretch--and then they lucked into Baker.
When they let Mike Evans go in March, the dominoes started to fall. Evans had restrained bad things to say about the current Bucs situation as he headed to SF. Then Lavonte David retired, a long-time leader. Then they chased off another leader in Rachaad White. The best corner (Jamel Dean) bolted in free agency. Vita Vea now wants a trade. And now they pissed off a guy who doesn’t take disrespect well; their franchise QB.
Carolina is falling apart to injury.
Tampa Bay is cratering by their own hands.
Who ya got? Saints or Falcons?
-- HEADLINE: This news comes from Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill Jr., who also noted that Jaydon Blue “got a lot of work with the first team” during Thursday’s practice. Blue is entering his second season with the Cowboys and has reportedly turned in a strong first two days of camp, ripping off one big run after another while mixing in with the starters.
Some of the most FF damaging information about football things comes from total head fake observations by unskilled observation list/beat writers when they critique players performing in noncontact drills.
We heard all this before about Blue last year.
Maybe he’s better this year? I’ll see when we see actual preseason games. Blue’s issue is live football not speed in two hand touch.
GEMINI research notes on Phil Mafah:
July 2026 Training Camp Updates: Phil Mafah
The focus on Phil Mafah in Dallas Cowboys training camp this July has centered entirely on his resilience, physical running style, and a heated battle for the backup running back role behind Javonte Williams.
Here is the breakdown of what is being said by reporters, coaches, and the front office.
Reporters and Beat Writers
Local coverage, including notes from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, has highlighted a roller-coaster start to camp that ultimately proved Mafah's mental toughness.
- Day 1 Struggles: Mafah put the ball on the ground during the very first practice after edge rusher Rashan Gary punched it out.
- Day 2 Redemption: Reporters praised Mafah for immediately putting the fumble behind him. He responded by making a tough catch over a defender out of the backfield and subsequently breaking a run outside the tackle for a 50-yard untouched score.
- Skillset Surprises: Observers noted that his 50-yard breakaway run showed he has more agility and burst in his bag than expected for a back usually billed as a pure "battering ram."
- The RB2 Battle: The consensus among beat writers is that Mafah is firmly locked in a fierce, down-to-the-wire competition with Jaydon Blue and Malik Davis for the primary backup job.
The Coaching Staff
Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has been vocal about wanting to see what the young backs can do, actively creating opportunities to evaluate them.
- Expanded Usage: Schottenheimer has reportedly been experimenting with ways to use Williams, Blue, and Mafah frequently, suggesting the backfield might not just be a traditional starter-and-backup setup.
- First-Team Reps: The coaching staff has intentionally held Javonte Williams out of select team drills early in camp specifically to feed more reps to Mafah and Blue.
- Red Zone Focus: Mafah has capitalized on these increased opportunities, drawing praise from the staff for breaking off positive plays and scoring during first-team red zone work.
-- HEADLINE: Browns RB coach Duce Staley said he thinks Quinshon Judkins “can play all three downs” this season.
Duce Staley prefers the tough guy backs, so if Quinshon can stay healthy...I bet Duce will try to push him all the time. The Dylan Sampson fade is happening every moment Quinshon proves he is back.
Good Luck Quinshon on this offense with Deshaun Watson at QB.
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES (pulled from an internet A.I. search, I try to make sure it’s accurate but some of it is ‘trust in AI’) ==
-- The Athletic’s Jesse Newell believes Chiefs rookie WR Cyrus Allen’s performance is “the No. 1 story” in training camp so far.
-- Chargers OC Mike McDaniel said WR Brenen Thompson has “captured the attention of the quarterback room by his attack and ownership of the offense.”
-- Patriots team reporter Evan Lazar reports that RB Lan Larison “appears to be an early leader” for the RB3 role.
-- “(Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington are always) the first people in the building. Me (Trav Hunter) and BT (are) chasing that. We want to be the first person in the building, might not be able to beat (Parker.)”
-- Roman Wilson SZN: Roman Wilson has been the star of Steelers training camp. He's opened eyes. He's gotten the most targets. He's run the most routes. He's in the lead to be the Steelers WR3. Per great Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh.

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Baker Mayfield said the Bucs offered him a two-year contract.
Bucs QB Baker Mayfield's full statement on not having a new contract heading into training camp: https://x.com/SportsCenter/status/2082853551471026486?s=20
"To feel disrespected a little bit, and that's really the disappointing part."
I think Tampa has burned the bridge and thinks it’s wise to play this out and franchise tag him at the end of the year. That’s not a smart decision for the current nor longevity of your team/franchise. Make a decision.
Without a real deal in place, Baker is probably inclined to not doing anything in 2026 that doesn’t put himself first...he’s not going to fight through every injury to his own detriment like what happened to him in Cleveland. He’ll dial his running efforts back trying to stay safe to enter the offseason for a giant contract battle with the Bucs and trying to get traded.
A team can get cute with every position on a football team/franchise except QB and star offensive lineman, elite cover corner, and a great kicker. Everyone else is pretty expendable/easily replaceable. And then the fact that the QB is also the de facto team leader...it’s even worse to be in these noncommittal situations with the franchise QB. Total disrespect, which if that’s what they wanted--a change from Baker--then trade him now, why wait if he’s not ‘your guy’?
Bad things headed TB’s way unless they pay up Baker before Week 1. And I don’t think Baker wants to be back and hasn’t the whole time. This whole Buccaneers situation is on the verge of implosion.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) said he has been running routes for “weeks” and that his reported clean-up procedure date was incorrect.
With the new information, everything on Nabers’ pulls forward by about a month off of previous research and projections. This changes his FF projections and Jaxson Dart’s projections and the Giants’ overall projections and torpedoes any long shot hope of Darnell Mooney having a quick blip off the jump this season.
Huge news.
Since many of my family members (and many friends for a long time) are now or have been Giants fans (and I am an original New Yorker, born and raised)--I may have to become a fan too...so, I may refer to them as MY Giants this year. We’ll see how they do before I get into any MY or WE stuff.
My wife joined the fray and adopted football fandom and thus NYG last year to support my long-time fan/son and now I can hardly watch my Sunday games in peace in my office setup because she’s out in the living room shouting like a maniac, which is actually cool because she hasn’t watched football in like 20 years but picked right back up into loving it last year. Her favorite player returning back to football and now loving NYG, sadly...Wan’Dale Robinson.
Anyone want to buy a used ‘Robinson’ official jersey?
-- HEADLINE: The #49ers are signing WR Deebo Samuel on a 1-year deal worth up to $7M, per sources.
As soon as I saw that, my very first thought--this is the end of the Ricky Pearsall season and story. Deebo is back. Mike Evans is there. George Kittle is clawing his way back. It’s all good news for perpetual QB1 Brock Purdy, who gets treated and assumed as being a boring QB2.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reports that Cardinals RB Tyler Allgeier “has been getting the majority of the carries with the first team.”
Everyone I talk to about this is shocked with how much #1 work Tyler Allgeier is getting in camp so far. This very likely starts out as a split of some kind. Why was Jeremiyah Love even drafted? I know why, it’s rhetorical...such a stupid waste of a draft pick. Not because of the player but because of the position they wasted such draft capital on.
-- HEADLINE: Saints signed WR Chris Olave to a four-year, $132 million extension through 2030.
I assume they’re taking a huge insurance policy out on Olave...for the franchise and for Olave. Tyson and Olave will make a wonderful NFL 1-2 punch, if Olave stays on the field.
For FF, not as great for Tyson...but in the new world ahead, every team is gonna have two aces at WR. However, right now most top WRs are those who don’t have any real threat from the other WR for high/excessive targets...but that’s a dying breed.
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES (pulled from an internet A.I. search, I try to make sure it’s accurate but some of it is ‘trust in AI’) ==

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Giants GM Joe Schoen said Malik Nabers has been “running, cutting, running routes, and taking part in individual drills” during practice.
This does not mean he’s gonna be ready/not go on PUP, but now the news momentum is leading people to assume he’s gonna be back just fine for Week 1. I don’t think so. Hopefully, he can get back...but I think it’s very up in the air.
Then I saw this, and...and he’s out there moving around for sure. https://x.com/charlottecrrll/status/2082540498913284506
https://x.com/Connor_J_Hughes/status/2082541846215987444
A positive sign in his recovery for sure. I can’t believe he is going to be a real ‘go’ Week 1 and not going on PUP.
GEMINI weighs in:
Here is what his recent practice movement tells us about where he stands:
Stark Contrast from May: Back in late May, Nabers was moving with a noticeable limp and knee stiffness after undergoing a spring cleanup procedure to remove scar tissue following his October ACL and meniscus repair. Taking individual reps on Day 1 of camp without a limp, fluidly cutting, stopping, and running routes with Jaxson Dart is a drastic physical improvement.
Avoiding PUP Was the First Clue: The Giants opted not to put him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to open camp. Doing more individual work than expected on the first day confirms his knee has cleared key structural hurdles.
Realistic Week 1 Path: While the second surgery in the spring cast serious doubt on his availability for the season opener, his movement on the field puts a Week 1 return against Dallas firmly back on the table.
The Caveat: Head coach John Harbaugh and GM Joe Schoen are refusing to make firm predictions or set a rigid timeline. They are monitoring how the knee responds to joint soreness and swelling over consecutive days of camp work before advancing him to full 11-on-11 team drills.
While it isn't an official guarantee that he will play 100% of the snaps in Week 1, seeing him move fluidly and cut without discomfort eliminates the worst-case scenarios from earlier this offseason and puts his recovery right back on track.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reports Jordan James suffered a fractured rib in Monday’s practice and will miss “some time.”
He’ll likely miss the preseason and a few games...thus Kaelon Black has moved into the current CMC ‘handcuff’.
-- HEADLINE: The Athletic’s Vic Tafur reports Ricky Pearsall is not practicing because of knee swelling and there is “some concern” from the team.
If you haven’t thrown in the towel yet, this report probably forced your hand. I’m moving on from even worrying about him.
-- HEADLINE: Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said Tristan Wirfs sustained a hamstring injury.
The thing to watch with all these bad injury 2025 guys rushing back for 2026--compensatory injuries...where they don’t realize they’re un/subconsciously protecting the injured body part and they overexert other mechanisms to compensate for protecting the surgically repaired thing.
That’s the worry for Wirfs, Nabers, Kraft, Kittle, etc. Not saying it is THE LAW...just noting ‘it is a thing’. And there’s ‘cleared to move’ as step one, but getting back to normal is several weeks+ after getting back to work.
-- HEADLINE: The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan said A.J. Brown’s downfield “struggles” have been “noteworthy” during Patriots training camp.
The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan said the Patriots are “stretching DeMario Douglas’ usage and route tree more than in recent years.”
I have been told by multiple people that Douglas is getting way more run in camp (as he did in OTAs), per Vrabel’s ‘request’ in the spring. But NE has a rich history of talking about Douglas getting more touches and then it never really materializes.
One of my sources told me about the AJB ‘concern’ in the news, from his perspective. He said: AJB looks like he’s not giving full effort all the time...but more like practice is beneath him and he can turn it on when he wants.
The reason why Philly wanted to get off him was--lack of effort in general; not leading by example. But he’s gonna crank it up when it’s game time. He’s a diva, and the pats knew it when they traded heavy for him.
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES (pulled from an internet A.I. search, I try to make sure it’s accurate but some of it is ‘trust in AI’) ==
-- The Florida Times-Union’s Ryan O’Halloran reports Chris Rodriguez “has been cleared and will do individual work” in Wednesday’s practice.
-- Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Joe Alt (ankle) and Rashawn Slater (knee) have been medically cleared for the start of training camp.
-- Tucker Kraft (knee)said he will probably come off the active/PUP list “very soon.”
-- The Athletic’s Joe Person reports Chris Brazzell suffered a “moderate LCL tear in his left knee and is expected to miss up to eight weeks.”
-- NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Brian Bresee is “feared to have suffered a torn ACL.”
-- Giants GM Joe Schoen said Malik Nabers has been “running, cutting, running routes, and taking part in individual drills” during practice.

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield reported to camp and will put contract negotiation on hold until after the season.
Oh boy... This is a power move by Baker.
Mayfield is either going to leverage the Bucs for a massive deal...or he’s going to talk non-stop about a trade after the season. I think Baker ‘secretly’ wants a regime change...or he wants out.
Tampa Bay could franchise tag him for $50M +/- guaranteed next offseason, but that would only infuriate Baker. The Bucs could tag him again in 2028 for $60M +/- guaranteed. I don’t think Tampa Bay will take this approach, but it has happened to a QB before--to Kirk Cousins.
Teams have dissed Baker before, Tampa showed him respect last contract and Baker showed the same respect back for giving him a chance-- but now this is his last shot at a big deal, and I don’t think he’s going to take a hometown discount. There would be a huge market for Baker if he hit free agency.
Many of Tampa Bay’s foundational players, locker room leaders have retired or left or are unhappy with their current deal. The ground is quaking beneath this franchise’s feet. Bad coach. Bad O-C. Leaders leaving. The GM is about to let this thing get away from him because he didn’t have the guts to change Todd Bowles for Dave Canales or Liam Coen, when he has the chance.
-- HEADLINE: Saints GM Mickey Loomis said Chris Olave (clot) has no restrictions and is now “full go.”
Good news for Olave.
Good news for Tyler Shough...a nice WR group has formed.
Bad news, for FF 2026 upside RIGHT AWAY, for Jordyn Tyson...Olave will be the #1 target to start the season. Tyson could take over around midseason. Tyson was almost gonna be forced to be the #1 WR in Week 1 if Olave was gonna be out--that appears off the table...probably best for Tyson’s long-term development, at his own pace.
-- HEADLINE: Eagles signed DT Jalen Carter to a four-year, $152 million extension with $106 million in guarantees.
It’s not my money, but I wouldn’t have spent my team’s money in this way.
But the Georgia player TAX is...
1) You gotta over-draft them
2) You gotta overpay them at their first contract. Enjoy Quay Walker and Travon Walker, and their massive payrolls as well.
The Raiders just spent: $76.5M/$51M guaranteed on two linebackers from Georgia that their original/draft teams couldn’t wait to move on from.
Nakobe Dean $36M/$23M guaranteed.
Quay Walker $40.5M/$28M guaranteed.
-- HEADLINE: Colts GM Chris Ballard said WR Alec Pierce is a “week or two” from returning to practice.
This is not a good start to camp on this issue... I think the Alec Pierce offseason surgery and rehab and how he comes back, and the risk of it nagging him or holding him out or being less effective for a while is an issue. Why do you need to take the risk for the ADP price?

-- HEADLINE: Brock Purdy has christened No. 33 overall pick De’Zhaun Stribling a “baller.”
There are certain players who have FF-heat right now, and Stribling is pushing his way to the top.
Here are the five players I get the most questions, see the most comments on the past week or so...
1) Luther Burden, CHI
2) Jonathon Brooks, CAR
3) Parker Washington, JAX
4) Blake Corum, LAR
5) De’Zhaun Stribling, SF
I’m warming up to Stribling but am also very wary this is an OTA/t-shirts and shorts head fake. Ross Jacobs did the full scouting report and wasn’t a fan. Our scouting algo weren’t huge fans either.
-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Buccaneers NT Vita Vea has requested a trade.
I think when they let Mike Evans walk/Evans had had enough, it opened the door or took the lid off the problems the players are having with Todd Bowles. Brady had enough. Rachaad had enough. Vita wants out (and is likely just a contract ploy) and Baker hasn’t come close to a deal with TB...he may be asking for the moon to get it or leave.
I think the Bucs’ house is on fire, right now, but it’s not fully public yet...and may not be fully know the issues happening until after the season...when it’s too late.

Remember this every time there's a hysterical 'inaccuracy' report from camps...especially when Brock Purdy throws a bunch of picks, as he always does in practice.
-- Great article with depth on Seahawks RBs (long):
George Holani: 1st in every RB drill and the RB1 for most 1st team 11-on-11 work (same usage he had in the spring). His pass protection and receiving have earned the staff’s trust.
Jadarian Price: Alternating w/ Holani on the 1st team, but Seattle is maximizing his reps by using him with all three QBs and all three offensive units. They're trying to develop him in the pass game - he dropped two passes and ran a wrong route Saturday, then rebounded Sunday with two good catches. He is getting opportunities, but he has not overtaken Holani yet.
Emanuel Wilson: not mentioned at all

-- 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧: Vikings players won’t get much of a say, if any, in who will be the team’s starting QB, with their personal feelings being “minimally relevant,” per @SeifertESPN
“Players won't get much of a say in Kevin O'Connell's final decision, if any, and their personal feelings are minimally relevant to who is best equipped to run the Vikings' offense. None of the players who spoke with reporters during the five open offseason sessions expressed a favorite. Jefferson went out of his way to say he planned to work with both quarterbacks during his summer break.”

-- HEADLINE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Cardinals and QB Jacoby Brissett “reached agreement today on a reworked contract.” Brissett was scheduled to make up to $4.88 this year, in the final year of his old deal. His new contract increases his compensation for this season, but he is still scheduled to hit free agency next offseason. The new deal includes a $15.5 million base salary. He can make up to $21 million via incentives.
YES!!! Finally!!! Projections can be fully loaded now. Reports can be completed that were hanging.
Big Mike, Big Trey...not lil’ Marv...get to the ring and kick some arse: https://youtu.be/2oXWlqGQ42Y?si=P3HCb11ZzXJTd7Vm
-- HEADLINE: Rams HC Sean McVay said Blake Corum will “be a big factor” in the offense this season.
This is not real news, it’s been happening all summer--but now that McVay has reinforced it as everyone is coming back to FF news, so it’s fresh for some...it drives Corum’s price/ADP even higher, as I projected would happen months ago--that Corum’s value was gonna ramp in going into the preseason games beginning. This is your offramp time, if you wanted to sell...not a few months ago. This stock is taking off now. It will probably be his peak value for the preseason because neither he nor Kyren will see the field in the preseason, because McVay is not an idiot, so they won’t move any needles with what they do in August.
-- HEADLINE: Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reports Quinshon Judkins (leg/ankle) “will be full-go for Browns training camp.”
This seems like good news, and maybe it truly is--but if Judkins pushes himself back too fast...reinjury or a compensatory injury could hit and nag him all season. Not just on him, but for all players with huge injuries middle/later season and they’re racing back for training camp. Tucker Kraft, George Kittle, etc., are guys at risk of this.
-- HEADLINE: James Conner cut and signs with Green Bay, or a throw away trade for him to go to Green Bay...the drumbeats are getting louder and louder. The Pack can’t go into a season with MarShawn Lloyd as their #2...he’s too unreliable.
Conner may wind up there, but I might put my money on Emanuel Wilson going back there. But Conner, so someone Conner-like makes sense.
-- This is what scares me on getting high about Jadarian Price’s FF value: https://x.com/CoachspeakIndex/status/2081153133103988790?s=20
Charbonnet is a great player...the kind that is a ‘heart & soul’ that coaches love and it flusters FF owners. Just lean into it. Just ask James Conner or Chuba Hubbard or Jahmyr Gibbs what it’s like when your coach is way into you.
In 2026, I don’t think Charbonnet will play until December, if at all. He’d be silly to rush back too fast after his injury.
Remember the Walker/Charbs split of 2025...how that crushed/neutralized Walker for FF? Well, for 2027--it’s very likely Price/Charbs. Just a prediction. That’s a long time from now.

When I call Nathaniel Hackett an idiot, constantly...I’m not just being salty for the sake of being ‘salty guy’. He is truly an idiot. Way to sell the fans on your #3 picks...way to get ‘em excited for Cardinals football!
If Nathaniel Hackett is an idiot...what does that make Mike LaFleur for hiring him?
Idiots by association.

1) Emeka Egbuka d. Chris Olave (TB 1-0)
2) Jordyn Tyson d. Chris Godwin (1-1 tie)
3) Devaughn Vele d. Jalen McMillan (NO 2-1)
4) Juwan Johnson d. Cade Otton (NO 3-1)
Very close, debatable in the 1-2-3 WR matchups...but we went NO’s way.
