This was mostly a throwaway game of the to-be-cut facing off, but then there was the debut of Najee Harris (11-39-0, 1-20-0/1) for NYG, which feels so bizarre even writing the words in 2026.
We do have a few notes, but this is mostly about Najee.
Player Notes…
– So, Najee did debut here. He looked like Najee always looks…a one-way runner. A big truck of a runner north and south, and disaster east-west. The kind of runner John Harbaugh worships.
This should be a Cam Skattebo heavy touch count backfield, but why do I have a feeling that Najee is gonna weasel his way into this way too much? Remember, brother Jim planned on Najee as a key part of his backfield in 2025…but fireworks had another plan. So, it’s no accident Najee got passed to brother John. I just don’t think it’s ‘nothing’.
– Speaking of ancient players…Odell Beckham Jr. (0-0-0, 3-53-0/6) has his movement skills still. Not peak OBJ, but legit NFL movement OBJ.
OBJ just doesn’t have the heart/will for contact. Really never has for years. But he can still move quick enough.
– Cade Klubnik (6-13 for 59 yards, 0 TD/1 INT, 1-6-0) started for the Jets. Their #2 QB now. He looks like the most backup QB there ever was.
– NYG’s new #1 kicker is Dominic Zvada (3/3 FG, 2/2 XP). Beat out my boy Ben Sauls. He looks fine. UDFA from Michigan. Plays for a Harbaugh. Shocker.
– What is LB Micah McFadden (6 tackles, 0.0 sacks, 0 TFLs, 0 PDs, 0 INTs) doing in this game? Yuck. He’s now a backup.
– NYG 2025 UDFA OLB Trace Ford (5 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 3 TFLs, 2 PDs, 0 INTs) not making the Giants 53-man roster is a crime against humanity. Even worse, no one else in the league claimed him. That guy could be a Leonard Floyd-like 8+ sack a season player if someone could see the vision.
– Two UDFA RBs played in this game, guys I think I see a little something in…like maybe roster-able someday. Damon Bankston (11-62-0, 0-0-0/0) looked solid enough for NYG all preseason, but he played in this game late. NYG has too many RBs for a UDFA guy to pull a miracle. NYJ UDFA Chip Trayanum (12-38-1, 2-25-0/2), which sounds like a new Nvidia offering, looked solid starting this game…but he had no chance to make the 53-man. Nor should he. Neither guy signed back with their summer team.
