I don’t know why I thought of this concept, but I was a passenger in a car headed to a Disney event...and I used the ride time for this non-FF/Dynasty urgent, caffeinated thought:

Remember that Jets-Chiefs game from Sunday night in 2023? The one where the refs threw the game for KC late (half-kidding)?

The one where the Jets defense squashed Patrick Mahomes? The one where Zach Wilson played the game of his career…looking more Mahomes like than Mahomes in the game…doing so against what we all now know as ‘the best defense in the NFL 2023’ — the Chiefs?

Anyone remember that game?

I do.

Wilson was amazing in spurts in that game. Down 10-0 and 17-2 early on, he caught fire and almost led the full comeback. He was wobbly to start and then started to transform before everyone’s eyes mid game and was jaw dropping at times with some of his throws (either luck or talent...but it was something).

Why do I mention any of this? Who cares about Zach Wilson

Aren't we assuming Wilson will be cut this offseason? I doubt anyone will trade for him and pay his payroll but maybe if the Jets eat all or most of his money and the receiving team gives a 6th and gets back a 7th type of nothing deal…maybe a deal will happen. If Trey Lance drew some trade value maybe Wilson will too?

Whether via trade or just cut/free agent…Wilson is going somewhere not New York (Jets) in 2024.

It got me thinking — what do you reckon the Chiefs, after witnessing Wilson spank them in spurts last season, might see Wilson as a great, cheap project to take on? A quarterback who kinda plays like Mahomes...scrambler, gunslinger...

What if Wilson is the Patrick Mahomes handcuff for the FF future?

What if Zach Wilson gets good coaching for the first time in his NFL life and turns it all around for the future — eventually taking his education outside of the Chiefs (after he’s rehabbed/retrained, in this fairy tale scenario).

Just a thought for those in deeper Dynasty and/or Superflex looking for players to look at in the offseason.

Zach Wilson has a cannon for an arm...likes to scramble around in circles to make plays...takes the hard way over the easy way on throws...is a gunslinger to a fault... You know who he reminds me of? A guy people think is great because he makes plays scrambling in circles...a guy whose knock is trying to make hero throws instead of game managing, when needed. A guy that is well thought of but smaller and with a weaker arm than Wilson...

In their best college seasons...

73.5%, 307.7 pass yds per gm, 2.75 TD/0.25 INT per gm, 21.2 rush yds per gm + 10 rush TDs = Zach Wilson (2020)

66.6%, 324.1 pass yds per gm, 3.00 TD/0.36 INT per gm, 27.3 rush yds per gm + 10 rush TDs = Caleb Williams (2022)

Just thinking out loud. Nothing imminent. If you pick up Wilson and he is traded to a bad spot or whatever...then it doesn’t really FF-cost you anything.
