Our annual summer Devy series looking at college prospects daily for the entire month of July.

*Devy (for 2026+ prospects) Preview scouting = scouting 2-3+ key game tapes, looking at output trends/basic analytics, and some minor background research. Not a full blown, deep dive scouting report. We’ll continue to scout these players ahead of the college all-star games, the Combine and post-Combine for a full reporting ahead of their NFL Draft.

This is just a first reaction to their tape and data; they could grow by leaps and bounds with another year of college play and our scouting could radically change on them (one way or the other), but this is an early glimpse of what I’m (RC) seeing in my first real look at their work to get an idea of the incoming prospects and the strength/weakness of overall position groups (at an early stage).

FFM’s Ross Jacobs is scouting the same players and writing up without any prior discussion with RC, so they are seeing each other’s scouting take for the first time when these post.

RC FISCHER

RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame (Preview scouting grade: C+)

Projected measurables:

5’11”/205

4.4+ 40-time (est.)

6.95 +/- three-cone (est.)

2025 stats:

10.2 rush attempts, 70.3 rush yds per game (6.9 ypc), 17 rushing TDs (16g)

1.75 receptions per game, 14.7 rec. yards per game, 2 rec. TDs (16g)

I’m sure he’s fine for the NFL...has NFL speed and size, but I just didn’t get that excited watching Love work. I mean, he’s fine...when he has a big hole, he can run fast through it...but I didn’t really see any electric moves, or speed, or passing game work. It was all fine enough but I just was left flat...waiting to see something special, considering many project him as the #1 RB for the 2026 NFL Draft, but I just didn’t get my attention grabbed here. Not a bust, but not an obvious elite talent.

Love is my first RB scouted for this series...if he’s the best this class has to offer for 2026, then the RBs from the 2025/the last draft class need to rise in value. I’m sure there are better RBs we’ll see in this Devy series.

NFL Comp = I mean...James Cook on the upside and a lesser Bishop Sankey on the downside? How do you like that for a blast from the past name? I could also invoke another ‘Love’ for a possible comp -- Bryce Love, the wildly overrated Stanford prospect who finished 2nd in the Heisman in 2017 (lost to Baker Mayfield, and was just ahead of Lamar Jackson).

ROSS JACOBS

RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame (Scouting Preview Grade: C+)

Projected measurables:

6’0”/200

4.45+/- 40-time

7.0+/- 3-cone

2024 stats:

163-1125-17 rushing, 28-237-2 receiving (16g)

Slasher type with good but not great speed and explosiveness. Little bit tight in the hips. He’s probably not built to carry a load by himself but should be part of a good rotation. Runs better inside than you would expect. Hands look decent. He’s ok but I have a hard time thinking he’ll be the top ranked RB next year like he is right now in the media.

NFL Comp = Ty Chandler
