== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE/REPORT: The Athletic’s James Boyd believes “questions still remain” about Colts QB Anthony Richardson’s (eye) recovery.
With starting QB Daniel Jones (Achilles) rehabbing his season-ending injury from last year, presumed QB2 Riley Leonard will receive extra snaps this spring. When asked today if Richardson will be allowed to compete with Leonard for the QB2 role, Steichen “quickly sidestepped the topic,” prompting multiple follow-up questions from reporters. Steichen also “did not give a direct answer” when asked if Richardson has any limitations in his previously injured eye. A reporter followed up on the latter issue, but Steichen “simply repeated that the QB is ‘cleared to play.’”
The Colts’ management (HC and GM) are in a tough position. They are on a hot seat for 2026. They have to show results this year. I think the new president of the team is itching to make a change and bring in ‘her’ people, whoever they are...she’ll just want control, as would anyone.
Anthony Richardson is a giant blight on GM Chris Ballard’s record and to some degree a problem for Steichen. They can’t or won’t admit this went wrong, because most everyone in this era in any walk of life can’t or won’t admit a ‘miss’. Heck, I thought Richardson was gonna arguably be the best of that class at QB...him and Stroud.
But what no one can account for, fully, no matter how much study and due diligence you do -- what happens when they get to the pros? Can they mentally handle it? Richardson hit like a hurricane his rookie season. He was a dangerous runner/thrower. Stroud was great for a rookie QB...took Houston straight to a division title and a big upset win over the Ravens. After their rookie seasons, it was all downhill from there. Richardson constantly hurt and seems to be ‘quitting’/’shook’ and then Stroud got ‘the yips’, likely from being battered all the time behind the terrible Houston O-Line.
The Colts management doesn’t want to admit the mistake...they still hold out hope, I guess...and they will fear Richardson leaving after his 4th year of the 4-year deal and going to like a Kevin O’Connell or Liam Coen and getting AR’s career turned around. If that were to happen, the Colts guys would be cooked.
Big prove it year for the Colts in 2026, or a nuclear bomb will be dropped on the whole organization by Mrs. Irsay.
Subtly blaming things on Richardson’s eye is good cover for Steichen and Ballard...and for Richardson.
-- HEADLINE: New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill said undrafted free agent WR Brock Rechsteiner stood out at the Saints’ rookie minicamp on Friday.
I saw this headline and the player’s last name caught my attention, and I was right...he IS the brother of the Kennesaw State RB prospect I really liked from a couple years ago, Bronson Rechsteiner. You may know him better by his current job name--Bron Brekker of the WWE. Their fathers/uncles were the pro wrestling famous tag team ‘The Stiener Brothers’.
I thought Bron was a legit NFL prospect, but he could either make chump change trying to fight the system for a roster spot or go straight to the WWE and likely become a long-time star. He left Ravens training camp his UDFA rookie season and turned down a (likely) long practice squad stint and went to the WWE instead, and it was the wise move.
Brock, the 2026 WR prospect, is scrappy but not that good. Not a serious NFL prospect. He may try to become a FB as well (6’1”/222) but I’m sure he’ll be smart and go into pro wrestling as well.
-- HEADLINE: The Athletic’s Nate Atkins believes the Rams could consider trading for Raiders EDGE Maxx Crosby in October.
I think once the Raiders traded him, there’s no going back to normal like nothing happened. Maxx doesn’t want to be there, and the Raiders don’t want him there. It’s smart by the Raiders...trade overvalued/useless pass rushers, especially aging ones, for the moon because NFL morons will still overpay for sacks (Micah, K. Mack, etc.).
Did no one learn from the Micah Parsons trade last year?
The answer is = No.
Will they ever learn?
The answer is = No.
Where will Maxx wind up? He’ll go to whomever pays the Raiders the most, which will be half or less of what they got from the Ravens (for a few days, at least). Maxx is slightly damaged goods but is a solid player to have the D-Line when healthy. He might have 1-2 more impact years left...but the Raiders don’t need those years because they’re rebuilding. The Raiders best value to get out of Crosby is trading him. The ALMOST pulled the swindle of 2026 on the Ravens, but it fell apart.
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES (pulled from an internet A.I. search, I try to make sure it’s accurate but some of it is ‘trust in AI’) ==
-- When asked about the possibility of Aaron Rodgers coming on board again, Mike McCarthy said Saturday the ideal number of quarterbacks once OTA workouts begin later this month is three. “I mean, three quarterbacks is the normal,” McCarthy said. “Four would be awesome.”
-- (from yahoo sports) Patriots first round pick Caleb Lomu spent the entire practice at left tackle, the position he primarily played at Utah. Lomu has spent the pre-draft process cross-training at both tackle spots and his long-term projection in New England currently falls at right tackle with last year’s No. 4 overall pick Will Campbell holding down the left side. New England did not rep him at right tackle on Day 2 of minicamp, however, as sixth-round pick Dametrious Crownover primarily held that spot.

== New Daily Series ==
Let’s rank The Best players/The Most Important players in the NFL!
The NFL does that series each summer where the players (and maybe others?) vote on the top 100 for the prior season, and the outcome (to me) is like a voting by people who never watch football besides highlights and people without a clue voting in very bizarre ways. You know this series, right?
Well, I was wanting to do a kinda top 100 type thing myself, but I am going to tone it down to the top 64...but using two players from each team, so it may be more of a true top 40-50(?) with some forced stragglers on there for the player’s after 40-50+...but it should be ‘close enough’ and ‘interesting enough’, and I guarantee my rankings will be way different than the NFL voting.
I’ll do a team a day, two players from it and when we get enough you’ll see 4-5 tiers develop. I’ll go alphabetical order, but to switch up my usual pattern...I’ll do a reverse alphabetical order. We start with Washington and add two more each day until we get to Arizona.
*When I have an offensive lineman, I’m going to add their overall grades from PFF last year for some context...XX Overall Grade/rank at their position...XX/x, XX/x Pass/Run Block grade with the rank at their position for 2025.
Trent Williams (92/3rd OT...80/12th, 93/2nd), Tristan Wirfs (93/2nd OT...85/4th, 92/3rd), Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Jayden Daniels, Andrew Thomas (90/4th OT...87/3rd, 85/7th), Justin Jefferson, Drake Maye
Jordan Mailata (88/6th OT...82/6th, 82/6th), Laremy Tunsil (85/6th OT...89/2nd, 75/21st), Grey Zabel (From Wk14 on, the SEA march to SB: 82/8th OG...79/10th, 82/5th...9 grades in the playoffs), Brock Purdy, Quinyon Mitchell, Christian Gonzalez, Sam Darnold, Aaron Brewer (87/2nd OC...71/10th, 92/1st), Christian Darrisaw (healthy...he’s top tier, but injuries are killing him), Aaron Rodgers, Peter Skoronski (79/5th OG...85/2nd, 73/10th)
Joey Porter Jr., Armand Membou (73/31st OT...74/31st, 72/27th), Kelvin Banks (74/29th OT...70/41st, 76/19th), Malik Willis, Breece Hall, Erik McCoy (68/16th OC...84/1st, 62/25th)

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE: NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Kyler Murray will compete with J.J. McCarthy for the Vikings’ starting quarterback job this summer.
Ross and I have a coffee bet on whether JJM is going to be the Vikings Week 1 starter. I think it’s gonna be Kyler, but I won’t rule out that it won’t be JJM.
This is not like Daniel Jones being brought in at good money to ‘compete with’ (aka supplant) Anthony Richardson last year...the Colts invested some good money in DJ. They knew what they were wanting to do. But in this Vikings case 2026, the team could be or are able to be ‘using’ Kyler--because they didn’t have to invest at all in Kyler...the idiots in Arizona paid all the freight (payroll) to cut him...tens of millions. The Vikings are paying Kyler 1-year/$1.3M...none of it guaranteed.
There’s no embarrassment if Minnesota gives the win/job to JJM for a morale boost and ditches Kyler to go look elsewhere...or go play video games.
How bad does Kyler, who has never worked that hard his whole career, really want this? I can guarantee you ‘Nine’ is coming to compete.
-- HEADLINE: Jets signed RB Breece Hall to a three-year, $45.75 million extension through 2028.
Remember all the hysteria that Breece was a free agent and was going to KC or some other better FF place? Nope...Kenneth Walker stole that thunder and Breece is now a Jet for a while longer. And he should be. He’s about all that team has got.
And even if Breece thought it was a bad
The Jets are improving on the O-Line and have a decent QB to run the show. I wouldn’t be surprised if Breece puts in a top 1-2-3 PPR performance on high volume this year in New York.
-- HEADLINE: The NFL Schedule will be released May 14.
After the schedule is released we do two things...
1) Update the schedule order in our system to get the effect it has on the FF projections...which takes several days to study and grind that schedule.
2) We pretty quickly run a computer simulated season based on the rosters and our internals on the team. One of a few projected seasons as we study and restudy the teams and the schedule layouts.
With a projected season of win-loss records, we can start to look at the team wins over/under and division winners, etc., for betting.
As well as more props released by the betting sites once the schedule is out.
So, May 15-30 will be my early betting window ahead of the world waking up to things. No Rams deals this year, so we’ll have to see who the teams are we’re throwing our betting weight behind.
Our famous FAUX projected season series will begin as early as May 15, no later than May 16.

-- Falcons HC Kevin Stefanski said “I don’t think there is a limit to where Zachariah Branch can line up on the field.”
-- Reporter Raanan: “Malik Nabers injury is something we have to keep an eye on. The more I hear the more I’m like Week 1 is in serious question… starting to think we won’t see the best of Nabers until 4-6 weeks into the season.”
-- Twelve years to the month after Johnny Manziel became a first-round pick in the NFL draft, he’ll step into a boxing ring for the first time.
Via Andreas Hale of ESPN, Manziel will fight social-media influencer Bob Menery on May 23, at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
-- With no sign that Aaron Rodgers will be signing with the Steelers in the immediate future, 93.7 The Fan reported on Thursday morning that Rodgers would be visiting Pittsburgh, with an expectation that he would sign a contract. NFL Network confirmed the visit but tapped the brakes on a deal being done.
On Friday morning, Steelers GM Omar Khan said he doesn’t know where Rodgers is.
Now, Mark Kaboly (Steelers correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show) has shared this observation on Twitter: “From everything I can gather, there is no meeting scheduled or expected between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. I’ve reached out to a couple inside the building and nobody has seen him yet.”
-- “Cried for the first time since I tore my ACL,” Breece Hall wrote in a post on X on Friday after news of the deal broke, adding a praying hands emoji and and a fingers crossed emoji at the end. “This day really hit different for me man.”
-- Rams vs 49ers opening odds:
Sportsbooks have opened the Los Angeles Rams as 2.5-point neutral-site favorites for this Week 1 trip to Melbourne. The vig on L.A. -2.5 is priced at -120, indicating a potential move to a field goal should early money show on the Rams.
-- "He wants more money and the Steelers are going to cave. He deserves more money," Cowherd said on "The Herd." "You can’t ask a Hall of Fame quarterback in back-to-back years to give you two freebies. Last year was a Costco free sample year. This year, I need you to buy in bulk."

-- DRD rankings will now settle into once a week (min.) publishing the DRD top 300+ updates and adding/updating commentaries, etc.
-- SuperFlex/2QB Mock DRD 12-part series underway 5/4-5/15.
-- NFL DRAFT TEAM GRADES...a week of various grading of the NFL Draft.
Our NFL Draft team grades are nothing like the mainstream ones where everyone gets an A or B or C...because they are paid by the thing they are supposed to be critiquing (the league)...although there might be actual Ds and this year because this was the stupidest draft on execution that I’ve ever seen in a draft in my career.
We use calculations/algorithms to put real grades on the teams based on our perfect draft criteria and average draft criteria, etc., blended into a grade based on our valuations. There will be F grades (gasp)...probably several of them.
We will grade each team’s draft (Mon 5/4) but then I plan to debut this week...
(DONE/Tue.) The top 25 ‘best picks’ statistically...not best players, best pick at they spot they got them...so ‘savviest’ picks you could say.
(DONE/Wed.) The top 25 ‘worst picks’ statistically...wasted picks for the golden opportunity spot the teams were in.
(DONE/Thu.) Best/Savviest draft...who created the most value with their picks at the spot they were picking. Taking the top guy at #1 helps an overall draft grade, but any idiot could have made that pick. I want to grade how they did with the picks they had...quality vs. quantity.
Late-round and UDFA signing grades...who picked the best/sharpest when the obvious players were gone?
-- Miscellaneous reports on things that come my way and more scouting reports to come. I have a backlog of them to get published already.

-- *NOTICE* Our App notification system has cleared the Apple checkpoints, so we’re back to normal. Sorry for the couple day downtime.
-- HEADLINE: Vikings signed WR Jauan Jennings, formerly of the 49ers, to a one-year, $8 million contract with another $5M possible in incentives.
Playing hurt in 2025 but had 9 TDs in a 55-643-9 season in 15g. And all that gets you in 2026 is less guaranteed money than Dyami Brown or Tutu Atwell got in free agency for 1-yr in 2025. JJ can beat that if he gets more than half his incentive money.
Being the 49ers best WR last season meant absolutely nothing to his market value, apparently.
All the news will likely be...’wow, what a WR trio (JJ-the other JJ-Addison)’! But this may be where the Vikings deal Addison instead of trying to work out a new major deal.
Las Vegas and Washington are two teams to watch, if Addison is on the block. The Ravens might be a little interested too.
Jennings joins MIN and is a WR3?
-- NBC HEADLINE/NEWS: NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Aaron Rodgers is meeting with the Steelers for “further discussion.” Rapoport later added that Rodgers will “likely play for them in 2026.” The news originally came from Adam Crowley of 93.7 The Fan. Crowley noted that Rodgers is expected to be in town Thursday night, “with the expectation of him signing this weekend.”
It seemed like this was an obvious thing happening, but when we got past the draft and no decision yet...it started to make everyone wonder.
The Steelers with Rodgers: Should be right there as division title favorites.
The Steelers without Rodgers and going Howard/Allar/Rudolph: Last place, finishes under Cleveland.
And don’t even get me started on the effect on FF things if no Rodgers/legit QB...the impact to Dowdle, Pittman, etc.
But it looks like Rodgers is gonna be back for 2026...and he’ll be 42.8 years old Week 1...and things have so changed on age in the NFL, so none of us even blinks at Rodgers playing at age 42/43. What a time we live in.

-- (from PFT) Sean McVay explained to Chris Simms why he seemed surly on draft night...
“The reason he in the press conference was pissed off had neither to do with him acting or the pick but had to do with some sort of volatile situation that happened before they went out there,” Simms said. “There was some little argument about something. He assured me it was nothing like major, but he was a little peed off right there at that moment. That’s what he told me. I don’t think he’d have any problem with me sharing that.”
-- (from Yahoo) “That was an interesting moment,” Lomu said during his official introduction with the Patriots. “It was at the Combine, all that media stuff that they were doing there. They put me up on a stage along with a lot of other people. They had all the cameras just like this and they go, ‘Alight, for 10 seconds just do whatever and we’re going to film you.’ So, I was saying like, ‘What should I do?’ And they were like, ‘Just do whatever you want.’ And I just didn’t do it once. They made me do it like four different times. They made me walk from the back of the stage up to the front doing the exact same thing.
“That moment, I hated it. I hated it in that moment. But I was like, ‘OK, I’m up here, I’m just going to do whatever my body does.’ There’s no real backstory to that. It was really just what I was feeling at the moment. Of course they decided to use that as the dance that they posted. It was not my best work, but it was something.”

-- (from PFT) Last week, a report emerged that Meta tycoon Mark Zuckerberg and retired Apple CEO Tim Cook were contemplating making bids for the Seahawks. The report was quickly refuted, as to both.
Now, Sportico has identified two other potential bidders.
One group includes Boston Celtics limited partner Aditya Mittal and former Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck. The other is led by Vinod Khosla, who recently became a limited partner with the 49ers.

Best/Savviest draft...who created the most value with their picks at the spot they were picking. Taking the top guy at #1 helps an overall draft grade, but any idiot could have made that pick. I want to grade how they did with the picks they had...quality vs. quantity.
Late-round and UDFA signing grades...who picked the best/sharpest when the obvious players were gone?
-- Dynasty rankings update post-NFL Draft are posted.
Best Ball update coming next.
I’m working on the ADPs all week.
-- Miscellaneous reports on things that come my way and more scouting reports to come. I have a backlog of them to get published already.
This Week’s/Month’s Agenda…
-- 2026 Draft Guide studies and commentary writing is about to start...all month of May. More info on timings of things coming up.
-- DRD valuations/rankings top 300+ board updates/adds to everyday post-NFL Draft week and every week through the entire offseason.
-- DRD 5-round Mock Drafts...about to start a SuperFlex 12-episode series.
-- Prospect grades by position and rookie rankings boards are being debuted, updated and added to daily/weekly up to kick off 2026.
-- Dynasty and Best Ball rankings audits/updates daily/weekly. IDP studies/projections may not hit until early May.
-- Holy series QB and RB done. Holy RB Handcuffs underway (on hold for draft, since we’re this close)
-- Full scouting reports on various prospects from now until the NFL preseason. Deeper looks at De’Zhaun Stribling, Zavion Thomas, Cyrus Allen all on deck.
-- Any FFM News & Notes or Special Reports during the day as I get them.
-- New coaching staff hire’s analysis series...going through the entire staff...I am working on the framework of how I want to present that. This will be a first ever series (for me) where I go beyond ‘just the new head coaches’. ETA in May/June to start it up.

-- The more I think about and find out about the Fernando Mendoza situation—skipping the Hoosiers' trip to the White House—the madder I get.
Listen to this: https://x.com/BussinWTB/status/2050969771772940619
May 11th IS NOT the first day of OTAs for LV, so that’s a lie. May 18th starts OTA for LV. He’s knowingly lying to us/everybody.
Wouldn’t you get that White House invite, go ‘oh wow, amazing’, and then go check your schedule with your personal manager or team management to make sure you could maybe go...if you were worried about ‘practice’? Or wouldn’t you be a grown adult who is the #1 pick in the draft and is making tens of millions of dollars guaranteed and tell your college reps and coaches ‘I’ll be there’ and then plan on it no matter what the Raiders had going on? What’s Klint Kubiak gonna do? Say ‘no’? Will they call for a new draft and not take him #1? Indiana would’ve known about a trip to the White House months in advance...Mendoza could’ve told LV before the actual draft and they would have been so pumped for him to get a chance to go.
But no...he doesn’t want to miss practice. Riiiiiight.
So, he’s either lying or he’s an idiot. And he may be an idiot because I know he’s lying to me/the fans/the world in the most non-believable way there could be...and thus he is insulting my intelligence if he thinks I’m buying into his utter 8-year old mentality bullshit.
So, you’re telling me a guy who turned down Yale doesn’t know how to keep a calendar. His words, not mine. That interviewer’s question led to Mendoza riffing for 20 seconds about not knowing calendars and not having calendars and playing ‘who’s on first’ about what these ‘calendars’ you speak of even are. Are you out of your effing mind? You don’t have a calendar or scheduler? You’re gonna learn a phone-book-sized playbook but you don’t have a schedule, a to-do list, or a manager to do life things?
Mendoza is lying to all of us and thinks he’s got a brilliant explanation for us about ‘not knowing calendars’ and trying to be charming about it...and hoping his ‘look at me, I wanna practice for the good of the team’ excuse will curry him favor as some gritty guy.
Nuh-uh. No way.
So, you’re not going to go celebrate and support your teammates and school and coaches at a once-in-a-lifetime event because of a phantom OTA practice that doesn’t exist (on the date he thinks) and because calendars are such a crazy foreign object thing to you? Or is it (the likely real reason) that you wanna ‘quiet protest’ the President (that’s all this can be...or he’s an absolute low IQ moron that really doesn’t know what the word or concept of a calendar is)...and you’re not going to go support your teammates and coaches and represent your university so you can get some more phantom snaps at a pro practice that doesn’t exist? You’re a real piece of $#!&, in my book.
If you want to protest the President, then say it. At least be a man about it. Don’t give me childish lies and think I’m gonna applaud your fake work ethic valor.
Mendoza seemed like a pretty bland, milquetoast, likeable guy in the college interviews I watched of him. He didn’t strike me with great confidence, nor did he do anything that pushed me to hate him. I thought he was neutral, which is good/safe. But this right here...I wish I knew this nonsense, childish side existed earlier.
And this all doesn’t mean he’s a bad football player, but part of being a #1 pick and QB in the NFL is also to be a leader of men, the face of a franchise... and what he has done here is take something that should have never been ‘a thing’...and made it into ‘a thing’ if anyone scrapes any deeper.
But this is the NFL and they will protect him from criticism as best they can, so people don’t hate him right away. This will all go away along with the Mike Vrabel stuff because of ‘the Shield’.
But I will not forget.
Just the same, but totally opposite, I’ve seen some Diego Pavia recorded footage since the draft where he doesn’t know he’s on camera or doesn’t care, and he’s acting like a goof in public events with people. The NFL fears that version of him, and it looks like you can’t take the junkyard dog out of him...he’s a great ragtag QB, a mangy stray mutt...but that mutt is always gonna eat out of the trash and eat its own feces because that’s what it had to do to survive.
The NFL doesn’t have time for headaches like Pavia. He’s not doing himself any favors ever...he’s the opposite of Mendoza. Pavia lives his life like he’s the villain in a movie that hates the SuperHERO because he’s not the chosen SuperHERO. Mendoza is a fake-ass superhero that doesn’t have evidence of grit and confidence at a higher level but is trying to fake it because ‘that’s what QBs are supposed to be like’, I’m starting to think.
Just thinking out loud.
Mad at the world today, as you could tell by my Antonio Williams notes on his scouting report.

== New Daily Series ==
Trent Williams (92/3rd OT...80/12th, 93/2nd), Tristan Wirfs (93/2nd OT...85/4th, 92/3rd), Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Jayden Daniels, Andrew Thomas (90/4th OT...87/3rd, 85/7th)
Jordan Mailata (88/6th OT...82/6th, 82/6th), Laremy Tunsil (85/6th OT...89/2nd, 75/21st), Grey Zabel (From Wk14 on, the SEA march to SB: 82/8th OG...79/10th, 82/5th...9 grades in the playoffs), Brock Purdy, Quinyon Mitchell, Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, Peter Skoronski (79/5th OG...85/2nd, 73/10th)
Joey Porter Jr., Breece Hall, Armand Membou (73/31st OT...74/31st, 72/27th), Kelvin Banks (74/29th OT...70/41st, 76/19th), Erik McCoy (68/16th OC...84/1st, 62/25th)

5/6 WED
(7:12amET)
Today/tomorrow
-- We reached the top 300 prospect level of our initial DRD rankings. I’m going to audit the list a little every day this week (as we get any info from rookie minicamps and tryout guys signing or getting cut, etc.) plus add 2-3 or so prospect commentaries per day including more special ‘twist’ non-rookie options.
After this upcoming week of daily tweaking, we’ll then settle into once a week publishing the DRD top 300+ updates and adding/updating commentaries, etc.
-- Monday May 4th started our next/2.0 version of the post-NFL Draft mock DRD series...this time we do SuperFlex but it’s also really doing a recheck of the flows and movements we’re seeing at all the positions since the euphoria of the post-NFL Draft week. And I’m going to use it as a platform to take alternative players to the ones I am usually/foundationally taking in version 1.0, so we can talk about some fresh names.
One-a-day mocks from the 12 draft spots on the 2.0 SuperFlex version. And we will have just a select few higher probability TWIST players available to take in this one to spice it up as well.
-- NFL DRAFT TEAM GRADES...debut of a week of grades happens today.

-Late-round and UDFA signing grades...who picked the best/sharpest when the obvious players were gone?
-- The NFL Draft impact/changes to the Dynasty rankings...I’m about 95% done with adding more late-round/UDFA rookies, and going through and determining the impact of the entire draft on all the teams/players for FF, and the final audits of it all.
Barring anything unforeseen, the new Dynasty overall rankings/valuations will post sometime today. It’s very close. Auditing through final-final checks. If no unforeseen issues the new post-NFL Draft Dynasty rankings/valuations should be posted by tonightET. Wednesday.
It’s like cooking a great meal or a fine wine (I’m told)...don’t rush it...even though I want to do everything NOW, it takes time to back through and reconsider the impacts of the new rosters/rookies added, so very hopefully I finish today if I don’t run into any snags. And I’ll continue to audit rosters/projections/valuations all summer.
-- Miscellaneous reports on things that come my way and more scouting reports to come. I have a backlog of them to get published already.

-- TRANSACTIONS: Giants agreed to terms with DL DJ Reader on a two-year, $12.5 million contract. Also, the Giants claimed DT Zacch Pickens off waivers from the Chiefs.
Two pretty smart moves to bolster the all-important defensive front line. The Giants are doing a solid job of restocking the defense under Harbaugh. NYG is a contender...as long as the two players on our 'Best 2 players' series (NYG today) can stay heahty, which has been a chore for both of them in 2025 (and one of them for years).
-- NEWS: Free agent WR Stefon Diggs was found not guilty of assault Tuesday.
An ‘all clear’ for him to take his time to sign somewhere. Where? I have no idea. I think he’s at the end of his run, and I’m not sure I wouldn’t rather have free agent Keenan Allen vs. Diggs...for multiple reasons.
My guess would be he goes back to New England if Vrabel is there, which is an ‘if’.

-- Patrick Mahomes is “way ahead of schedule” in working his way back from surgery to repair the torn ACL and LCL he suffered last December, according to general manager Brett Veach.
Mahomes is reportedly tied to the hip of his trainers, going to the Chiefs’ facilities daily to work his way back and be ready for organizes team activities, but that’s not all from the three-time Super Bowl winner.
“I mean, this guy has been in the building — especially for, like, a player who has accomplished everything, can do anything he wants, he can hire his own trainers, he can be wherever he wants,” Veach continued. “He’s in our building every single day. And even when he goes away for a few days, say to Dallas for a weekend with his family, he takes one of our trainers with him.”
Mahomes is clearly taking the “no days off” motto more seriously than most, considering his normally busy offseason schedule.

-- Stefon Diggs was found not guilty May 5 in a case brought against him by his former chef who said he choked and slapped her in December 2025.
The jury returned a not guilty verdict on both counts – felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery – Diggs faced. Emotional because, according to Mitchell Shuster – a member of Diggs’ defense team – Diggs was falsely accused of committing the “serious” crime of domestic violence.
“Domestic violence is a very, very serious issue in this country and it’s disconcerting when people use it as a sword and manufacture claims in an attempt to extract money,” Shuster said. “I believe the jury saw through that today and we are very, very pleased with this result.”
Having his day in court was important to Diggs, said Shuster, who was “thankful” the four-time Pro Bowl selection insisted on his day in court – and called out those who attempt to extort the famous.
“I’m thankful for someone like Stefon Diggs, who insisted that he would get his day in court so that his truth could be heard – and it was heard,” Shuster said. “No assault ever occurred. … People have to stop targeting professional athletes and trying to extract money. They have a target on their back and it’s hard enough doing what they do. And this has to stop. People should focus on real victims from domestic violence, and allegations like this do a tremendous disservice to those who are afflicted and impacted by causes like this. It’s been an honor to represent Stefon and could not be prouder of him that he insisted we see this through and the truth be told.”
Diggs has been impacted personally, but also professionally, Shuster said. The attorney said he expects Diggs to sign with a team “imminently,” as the Patriots released him in March.
-- Colin Cowherd said on Tuesday’s edition of "The Herd" that he took notice of Dallas’ schedule difficulty and does not believe it will match what oddsmakers have as its projected win total for the 2026 season.
"Over/Under is 8.5 wins. I will take the under," Cowherd said. "I think they’re a 7-10 or an 8-9 team. I like their draft, I like their personnel, but last year they played the third-easiest schedule and won seven games, and their eight games against teams with winning records, they went 1-7."

== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- HEADLINE/QUOTE: “I’m on the bottom of the totem pole here. I’ve got to prove myself,” Fernando Mendoza told reporters Saturday. “I can’t miss practice. I don’t have the calendar, but as a rookie, I don’t think that’s a good look. I want to try to best serve my teammates, and I don’t know if that’d be accomplishing that goal.”
For some reason, I thought about this several times since it hit--the news that Mendoza was skipping a trip to the White House to celebrate Indiana’s championship.
At first, I kinda didn’t think much about it. I thought it was odd but then I thought maybe it’s the smart suck up thing to do (stay at work instead of taking a day off). It kinda came and went as a thought.
Then I randomly saw the report again and it got me thinking while walking the dog... Why wouldn’t he go make this simple trip? It’s a once in a lifetime thing reserved for special accomplishments! And you are not the third-string guard...you’re the team captain QB! You’re not gonna go be with your teammates and friends to memorialize this once-in-a-lifetime thing you accomplished? Why skip it? How absurd!
He says that he didn’t want to miss practice? Dude, you are not fighting for a roster spot. You’re the #1 pick QB who has guaranteed money due to you that you’ll not be able to spend in your lifetime...you’re not a UDFA QB clinging to NFL roster hopes. You can ask/tell the Raiders that you’re not missing this event, and they would not only understand...I’m they’d let you take the Raiders private jet and would love the publicity of you at the White House on all the news acting like a humble, present leader.
I started to theorize that there were only two reasons why he’s not doing this, and neither concept I am pleased with as a scout/evaluator of things including ‘mental’...
(1) If he really thinks he can’t miss one day of practice, it shows he’s an idiot...a brownnoser...a delusional guy who has no idea of his value//has no spine. A ‘teacher’s pet’ man boy. A guy that doesn’t know his own worth/power as a #1 pick (which is what the NFL likes to possess).
I’ll bet even his coaches in Vegas are telling him he should go and are now miffed and confused why he isn’t. If he’s doing all this to impress the bosses, and those same bosses are telling him to absolutely go and that he’s crazy to skip it...then he really isn’t impressing his bosses because they are now wondering if this guy has a screw loose...not that he is a ‘hard worker’.
OR
(2) He’s making a silent political protest. In which case, your big plan is that you’re gonna skip a harmless non-political event meant to celebrate you AND your teammates AND your coaches AND your school AND your fans...all to make a silent protest. This logic also makes me question the judgement of this guy now. If you want to protest...then have the balls to do so. Be loud and proud. Don’t screw over your teammates and coaches with a silent protest and a dumb excuse for skipping out...go make a statement. Be a leader at something. Stop with the passive-aggressive nonsense. Go all-in or all-out.
I don’t care who the President is, or whether I voted for them or not, if I am being invited/brought in to celebrate an amazing American achievement with my collegemates -- I’m there.
It’s his right to skip, but it’s my right/job and right to judge things about football people...and to me this is not a ‘good look’. This is showing signs of a guy people are NOT going to gravitate to in NFL locker rooms. He’s not showing a Tom Brady or Baker Mayfield leader of men trait. Whether you like Colin Kaepernick or not...he went ‘all-in’ with his beliefs.
I get that Mendoza is still young and this is not the biggest deal and I don’t know his life or real reasons...I just know, after putting some thought to it, that I’m now questioning this guy’s mentality/decision making. He’s hiding behind: ‘I’m such a hard worker, look at me...no days off!’ But I think he is being ridiculous/not savvy/selfish to skip out on this from all angles.
Ok, Fernando...now go back to practice and take some more ‘unmissable’ #2 QB reps where you won’t be a starter for half a season or until 2027.
He could have hopped a private jet and been out and back same day. He’s got private jet money. He has power as #1 pick QB/face of a franchise. His bosses are telling him, encouraging him, mocking him to NOT miss this. So, the Mendoza excuse/reasoning is so idiotic it makes me madder and madder the more I think about it. Mad at myself because I was just gonna let it go by without a lot of thought.
Or I could just be getting worked up over nothing. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Would you rather be led by a Jack Hughes mentality or a Fernando Mendoza mentality, as it pertains to this opportunity?
-- HEADLINE: The Athletic’s Zac Jackson believes it’s “fair to wonder” if the Browns eventually look to trade Cedric Tillman.
I’ll be duly impressed with the team’s personnel department/GM that snags Tillman in a trade for pennies. Although if that team is not the Falcons, where the new head coach Kevin Stefanski was just coaching the past few years (Cleveland)...then it’s gonna make me wonder if there’s something behind the scenes with Tillman. The Falcons have a need, Stefanski has the intel.
-- There’s been a lot of Rams TE talk this week. Glowing stuff about Terrance Ferguson from Sean McVay, which has been non-stop thing since like November 2025. Then they draft Max Klare with a 2nd-round pick (what?). Then they extended Tyler Higbee around free agency time for reasons I don’t understand, but OK. They still have Davis Allen on their roster.
They also still have Colby Parkinson...the one guy who is technically overpaid and saves a nice chunk of payroll if they cut him. $9M pay for this season...or $3M CAP hit to cut or trade him. I am told they are looking at their options here...but they are hoping after Park’s nice 2025 that they can pawn that lucky spurt off on another team to take some of the overload out of the TE group.
McVay plans to use that 2-3 and 4 TE sets randomly to throw curves at the defense, so they will keep a lot of TEs. I don’t know how any one of them (TFerg) becomes a consistent FF breakout.
-- HEADLINE: Speaking on 680 The Fan, Falcons president of football operations Matt Ryan said “we don’t really know what to expect at the beginning of training camp” for Michael Penix (knee).
All I want to say is...thank you for being straight/honest, Matt. Why so many coaches or GMs speak in circles or pure hype on offseason injuries like this, I don’t know.
I rarely here an NFL exec simply say, ‘I/we don’t know’. It’s so simple and reasonable.
-- A short article on Ben Johnson talking about drafting Zavion Thomas...
== QUOTES & QUOTABLES (pulled from an internet A.I. search, I try to make sure it’s accurate but some of it is ‘trust in AI’) ==
-- "The draft picks, [Carnell] Tate was a good player for us on our board," Daboll told reporters on Saturday. "Again, he's going to have to come in here and earn everything. But he has a good skillset. He could do a variety of things, contested catches, run routes, very smart. So, we were happy to get him along with the other draft picks and free agents that we got."
-- "I mean, you guys saw him, right?" Matt LaFleur said, when asked why the Packers brought Chase Claypool in. "He's had great film out there, he's been productive, and he looks like he's in great shape. I mean, he's big. So, we'll see how it goes."
-- On Saturday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that Diego Pavia received no signing bonus or guaranteed money with his contract. It lasts for three years, which is the norm for undrafted players, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The biggest return that Pavia is getting out of this deal is just the opportunity to play in the NFL. Per NFL Operations, he will probably make between $885,000 and $1,005,000 in his rookie season. It’s a sharp fall from the reported $2.5 million the QB earned in his final season with the Vanderbilt Commodores.
-- "We had him (Kaelon Black) as the second-rated back on the board," Kyle Shanahan said this past week on The Rich Eisen Show. "So, that's just our evaluation, right or wrong that's our evaluation."
-- "First of all, he's (Emmett Johnson) got a good feel for things, a smart kid, good kid. He's got that lateral quickness. We had LeSean McCoy here for a bit and he has a little bit of that to him, where he can shift gears and still get himself up the field quickly," said Andy Reid, who coached McCoy with the Philadelphia Eagles and for a season with the Chiefs, via Saturday's team transcript. "I like the way he pass protects, I like the way he catches the football, and it looks like he can do that here. We're not doing live stuff, but the catching part he does easy. Probably most of all I just like his smarts. He's going to help on special teams, too. (special teams coordinator) Dave (Toub) has him in that up-back position on the punt team and (he's) able to make all the calls and get guys going in the right direction."
-- “I would take Thieneman over Downs,” an NFL DB coach told an The Athletic reporter this month. “Thieneman is one of the more versatile safeties I’ve seen come out in the last few years. I feel good about him in the deep part of the field, about him in and around the box and about him in coverage, especially from a safeties standpoint. I loved the movement skills from him at the combine. He looked really fluid and loose. There’s a lot to like with him.”
-- “If he (Chris Bell) was 100 percent healthy, he probably would’ve shown just a little something, combine, pro day, where it might’ve put you over the top—like hey, this guy might be a first-rounder,” an NFL WR coach said to a The Athletic reporter. “He’s really physical and has impressive run after the catch. He needs to develop his routes. Guys who are really good with the ball in their hands are usually small. He’s not. He’s 220-plus and he’s fast. I think he’s a legit 4.4 guy. Just watch that Miami game. He caught two shallow crosses and went around the friggin’ corner and they didn’t touch him. And they got friggin’ dudes on that defense, he ran all the way around the backside, and they didn’t even put a finger on him.”

Trent Williams (92/3rd OT...80/12th, 93/2nd), Tristan Wirfs (93/2nd OT...85/4th, 92/3rd), Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward, Jayden Daniels
Jordan Mailata (88/6th OT...82/6th, 82/6th), Laremy Tunsil (85/6th OT...89/2nd, 75/21st), Grey Zabel (From Wk14 on, the SEA march to SB: 82/8th OG...79/10th, 82/5th...9 grades in the playoffs), Brock Purdy, Quinyon Mitchell, Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, Peter Skoronski (79/5th OG...85/2nd, 73/10th)
Joey Porter Jr., Breece Hall, Armand Membou (73/31st OT...74/31st, 72/27th)

5/4 MON
(5:55amET)
Today/tomorrow
-- We reached the top 300 prospect level of our initial DRD rankings. I’m going to audit the list a little every day this week (as we get any info from rookie minicamps and tryout guys signing or getting cut, etc.) plus add 2-3 or so prospect commentaries per day including more special ‘twist’ non-rookie options.
After this upcoming week of daily tweaking, we’ll then settle into once a week publishing the DRD top 300+ updates and adding/updating commentaries, etc.
-- Monday May 4th starts our next/2.0 version of the post-NFL Draft mock DRD series...this time we do SuperFlex but it’s also really doing a recheck of the flows and movements we’re seeing at all the positions since the euphoria of the post-NFL Draft week.
We will grade each team’s draft but then I plan to debut this week...
-The top 10 ‘best picks’ statistically...not best players, best pick at they spot they got them...so ‘savviest’ picks you could say.
-The top 10 ‘worst picks’ statistically...wasted picks for the golden opportunity spot the teams were in.
-Best/Savviest draft...who created the most value with their picks at the spot they were picking. Taking the top guy at #1 helps an overall draft grade, but any idiot could have made that pick. I want to grade how they did with the picks they had...quality vs. quantity.
-Late-round and UDFA signing grades...who picked the best/sharpest when the obvious players were gone?
-- The NFL Draft impact/changes to the Dynasty rankings...I’m about 75-80% done with adding more late-round/UDFA rookies, and going through and determining the impact of the entire draft on all the teams/players for FF. I hope to post the new Dynasty overall rankings/valuations tonight but might be Tuesday.
-- Prospect grades by position and rookie rankings boards are being debuted, updated and added to daily/weekly up to kickoff 2026.
-- Dynasty and Best Ball rankings audits/updates daily/weekly. IDP studies/projections are trying to get done by the end of April, but may not hit until early May.
-- Holy series QB and RB done. Holy RB Handcuffs underway (on hold for draft, since we’re this close)
-- Full scouting reports on various prospects from now until the NFL preseason. Deeper looks at Antonio Williams, De’Zhaun Stribling, Zavion Thomas, Cyrus Allen all on deck.
== NEWS & NOTES & Xs ==
-- This is gonna be the story of the summer: Brendan Sorsby either returning to college to make millions or is suspended a year for CFB or he goes to the pros in the supplemental draft. Possibly to 1.01 to the Raiders, who don’t need him so they can potentially trade that to pick for something? Wait until you see the rules (below) for who gets the #1 pick in the Supplemental Draft...I had no idea this is how the #1 pick in that is determined.
This also may be Arizona’s way to find their QB the NFL’s old fashioned, tried-and-true way: By totally dumb luck.
Here’s a 15-20-minute discussion of the situation worth listening to because Sorsby could be coming a 2026 Dynasty Rookie Draft near you...soon.
https://youtu.be/cRefcoJg9lk?si=rUaKuAdqBXa-wExa
I’m going to give my Sorsby scouting thoughts ASAP.
Facts on the Supplemental Draft, if it comes down to it for Sorsby:
The NFL Supplemental Draft priority for 2026 is determined by a weighted lottery divided into three distinct groups based on the 2025 season performance. Because the Las Vegas Raiders finished with the league's worst record (3–14), they hold the highest mathematical probability of securing the top priority in the Group 1 lottery.
The draft operates as a blind bidding system rather than a standard linear order. Teams submit a bid specifying a player and the round they are willing to forfeit in the 2027 NFL Draft. Priority is only invoked if multiple teams bid the same round on the same player.
Supplemental Draft Priority Groups
The 32 teams are categorized as follows to determine the "waiver-style" priority:
Group 1: Teams with 6 or fewer wins in the 2025 season.
Group 2: Non-playoff teams with more than 6 wins.
Group 3: All 2025 Playoff teams.
2026 Group 1 Priority Order (Highest Probability)
These teams have the highest priority for bidding. The order below reflects the final 2025 standings for teams with 6 or fewer wins:
Las Vegas Raiders (3–14)
New York Jets (3–14)
Arizona Cardinals (3–14)
Tennessee Titans (3–14)
New York Giants (4–13)
Cleveland Browns (5–12)
Washington Commanders (5–12)
New Orleans Saints (6–11)
Kansas City Chiefs (6–11)
Cincinnati Bengals (6–11)
Key Rules and Forfeiture
Pick Forfeiture: If a team successfully selects a player (e.g., in the 3rd round), they lose their corresponding pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Lottery Timing: The weighted lottery is typically conducted by the league office in the days leading up to the Supplemental Draft in July.
Tiebreakers: For teams with identical records (like the Raiders, Jets, Cardinals, and Titans), the lottery weights provide the primary distinction, followed by strength of schedule.
-- HEADLINE: Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said Brenen Thompson has a “similar size, height, speed combination” to Tyreek Hill and also compared him to DeSean Jackson.
5’8”/185, 4.29 40-yd, 1.50 10-yd, 40.5” vert., 4.06 shuttle, 6.53 three-cone = Tyreek/2016
5’9”/164, 4.26 40-yd, 1.54 10-yd, SKIP vert., SKIP shuttle, SKIP three-cone = Br Thomp/2026
Comparing Thompson to Tyreek Hill is reckless and wrong, and why Mike McDaniel is a ‘Cool Cat’ and all, but part of why he lost control of the Dolphins--speed chasing. Why do we applaud McDaniel for scouting by 40-time only (it seems)...and mock Al Davis’s ghost for doing the same. Al Davis’s apparent lovechild, Mike McDaniel, just conned the weak LAC GM into making this pick.
Hill ran his 4.2s 40-time 21 pounds thicker/more mass than Thompson, so it’s not even comparable. Thin, wispy guys who can run fast is not a surprise and not unique to the draft. And then when these future-broken-in-half-on-a-tackle tiny WRs skip everything else in testing, it’s ‘a tell’, as Thompson did...skipped stuff he’s not good/not Tyreek at. We can debate Thompson as a talent on his own, but to call similar size-speed to Tyreek is either totally stupidity or a purposeful lie.
Now, comparing Thompson to DeSean Jackson and it makes more sense...DJax was 169 pounds and ran a 4.35 with excellent agility times that Thomspon refused to reveal to us. DJax was also a fearless return man, and Thompson has returned a total of one punt and no kicks in 4 years of college play...a college career where he could get on the field at Texas, then couldn’t at Oklahoma, and finally dropped down to Miss State to get some play time. And it’s a different NFL for 160+ pound, tiny WRs in this era vs. DJax’s 2208 entry into the league.
Comparing Thompson to NFL underperforming or hurt most of his career DeSean Jackson or to Hall of Famer Tyreek Hill reveals a reason to totally fear what (terrible) decisions are being made in L.A. now. BUT HEY! Their 40-times were close...that makes them equals, right?

-- Fanatics has announced, via Fox Sports, the ten best-selling rookie jerseys in the wake of the 2026 draft. Josh Downs leads the way.
Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick, lands at No. 5. That's one spot behind Steelers rookie quarterback Drew Allar, a third-round pick, who sits at No. 4.
Here's the full top ten: (1) Downs; (2) Dolphins linebacker Jacob Rodriguez; (3) Cowboys linebacker Malachi Lawrence; (4) Allar; (5) Mendoza; (6) Dolphins cornerback Chris Johnson; (7) Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love; (8) Patriots offensive lineman Caleb Lomu; (9) Bears safety Dillon Thieneman; (10) Jets linebacker David Bailey.
-- Schottenheimer was asked about early impressions of undrafted free agents Michael Trigg and D.J. Rogers from the week’s activities. But while discussing them, he also mentioned how they’d fit into the bigger picture at tight end:
“I’m really excited about those two young men, and adding it to a group that I feel is one of the most stable positions on our roster.”
-- According to a source, that was Washington’s Jonah Coleman and Arkansas’ Mike Washington Jr., two prospects viewed as potential Day 3 fallbacks if they didn’t land Jadarius Price.
-- “Montez Sweat had one of his better years in the NFL, whether that shows up in the sack total or not. He’s a very complete player, both run game and pass game,” Ben Johnson said. “And you saw tremendous growth from Austin Booker when we were able to get him back as well. The combination of us being able to coach better and those guys taking the next step as part of this system, we’ve got some pretty good pieces to work with.”
